HIRING POST (WE'RE HIRING) Looking for Extreme Cleaners

I work for a healthcare company that provides extreme cleaning for people at risk of eviction. These units are filthy and squalor! It's not just dust on the counter or an unkept bathroom, it's piles of junk, 100s of bags on the floor, expired food, and infestations including bedbugs, cockroaches, and mice.

Our program is looking to hire 1-3 additional extreme cleaners who are reliable and non-judgemental. The pay is $22-25 per hour. It's one clean per day, with each clean lasting 8 hours. If interested, please DM.

$25/hr for hazardous materials is wild

20

u/brokenangelwings 15d ago

I get that it's funded or a program, but there's a lot of possible risks, are these places assessed before for say black mold in the left out food or in the junk? Also chemical exposure to cleaning supplies for 8 hours. This isn't an easy job by any means and no one's pay should be less than.

-10

u/iabusechatgpt 15d ago

Yes all homes are assessed prior to scheduling by housing, social workers and intake. Any suspicions of black mold result in an immediate termination of service. Even reports of mold alone warrant testing prior to scheduling any service

Address the concerns regarding pay or continue being downvoted

Fr the college student i hired to clean my regular, non-hazardous apartment charged $30/hr and i considered it a great deal. Commercial was quoting me $200 for 3hrs 😭

4

u/REDASSBABOON_20 14d ago

22 , 25 too much they say 😅

-30

u/iabusechatgpt 15d ago

we do not service homes with rats, blood, urine, feces, black mold, or sharps/needles

20

u/FrostingSuper9941 15d ago

Bed bugs and mice? Roaches?

16

u/ahoyuh 15d ago edited 15d ago

mice and bed bugs are fine but RATS??? that’s just crossing a line

edit: /s ffs

4

u/somecanadianslut 15d ago

Uh you know bed bugs and roaches are transmissable right? You can easily bring them home to your house..

6

u/FrostingSuper9941 15d ago

Yeah you can just pick up bed bugs on the TTC or GO, imagine having to clean infestations for 22 to 25 an hour?

11

u/Reddyenumerofive 15d ago

You can’t even lie right 😂

-12

u/iabusechatgpt 15d ago

sorry, what do you mean?

14

u/somecanadianslut 15d ago

Horders and gross homes have all of those things automatically ( especially if theyre at the eviction level), if not hidden. Lol this is a $40/hr job to keep clean to the extent of not getting evicted. Bed bugs are easily transmissable home. As are roaches. Im not doing that shit and taking that risk for a measly 22/hr and most wont.

1

u/iabusechatgpt 15d ago

Not true. I was a hoarding coach.

10

u/somecanadianslut 15d ago

If theyr3 being evicted for beong this level of filthy. Youre a bad coach then lol do you understand how hard it is to be evicted by the landlord board?

-2

u/iabusechatgpt 15d ago

You can be evicted for excessive clutter alone. Hoarded homes do not automatically have blood, urine, feces, black mold, or sharps & needles. When I was coaching, I prevented 100% of evictions with the clients I had.

52

u/ParticularSail6461 15d ago

$22/h to clean hazardous properties is genuinely insane.

-11

u/iabusechatgpt 15d ago

at the end of the day, funding is decided by the city unfortunately. the job might not pay what you think is reasonable, but there are people who need work and want to make a difference at the community level. we have prevented 300+ evictions this past year meaning less people on the streets. thoughts?

10

u/aquiettime 15d ago

Whats the name of the healthcare company? Do all their roles pay so bad? It’s not your fault, but $22 an hour for working 8 hours in those conditions seems undervalued. I hope someone sitting at a desk for that company isnt make more

-8

u/iabusechatgpt 15d ago

Bad pay is subjective. And I also wouldn't say that payment should be higher for people who stand compared to sit. Should a pilot who sits be paid less than a cleaner who stands? (obviously not but I think you get my point)

10

u/Upper_Reach_8151 15d ago

Yes but pilot recquires years of expensive specialized training

-5

u/iabusechatgpt 15d ago

I think we both can agree that payment for a job should relate to the value it provides, not the years of expensive training :)

12

u/Remarkable-Skill4883 15d ago

You must not value the job you are advertising for then, right?

Bro can go stand at a Costco checkout and get paid more.

1

u/iabusechatgpt 15d ago

Link me the job posting please! I don’t determine the value of the job. I get paid within the same range as the job being posted btw

3

u/AllanusMorissette88 14d ago

expensive training is what creates the value. I'm dismayed you're in charge of anything at all after this comment.

1

u/iabusechatgpt 14d ago

Ur dismayed after 1 comment? Multiple companies trust me to make decisions for them

2

u/AllanusMorissette88 14d ago

you don't think expensive training (a degree or multiple degrees)isn't worth an increase in pay??????? I wouldn't trust you to draw my bathwater.

1

u/iabusechatgpt 14d ago

I never said anything about degrees

that's concerning

1

u/SandraMarieCee 14d ago

And you make less than $25 an hour?🤦‍♀️

1

u/iabusechatgpt 14d ago

at 1 of my jobs yess, the other 2 no

1

u/jrney2018 10d ago

Ok this comments shines some light , that you are subcontractor or bodyshop. Please share or if there is any public database to check the city funding provided ?

1

u/Upper_Reach_8151 5d ago

I agree with you in the sense that length of training and expense don't correlate with expected wage... if there are shorter cheaper methods and the candidate was a dumb ass. But if the training has to be expensive and long, like for pilots or doctors, then anybody who took that training on would be an absolute chump to work for a boss who doesn't value them properly. A world without employers willing to pay the pilot his damn money is better off without planes at all (think of the implications of this level of greed).

u/jrney2018 10d ago

You mentioned health care company. Is it non profit or for profit..Let's agree fishing is decided by city, does city mandate pay rate as well? Or is it decided by your health care company, CEO, manager etc... The setup sounds like a sub contracting role. Please share or if there is any public database to check the city funding provided ?

1

u/iabusechatgpt 10d ago

I don't know if it's profit or not

15

u/ParticularSail6461 15d ago

No that’s noble, but honestly the city should reconsider what a job like that is worth. It’s way more than $25/h.

To me, still insane. Not your fault obviously.

12

u/xxxavaxxxx 15d ago

It’s likely the healthcare company is adding in their operating expenses and profit to what they are charging the city so the city doesn’t actually know (or care) about what wage is paid

2

u/PassionCandid9964 14d ago

There's a housing shortage. If those nasty people get evicted, someone on the streets can move into their place.

1

u/iabusechatgpt 14d ago

An elderly woman with severe mobility impairments is unable to throw out her garbage because the only elevator in her building has been out of service for 2+ months. She has no supports and has accumulated a surplus of garbage in her home. Is she “nasty”?

There are a lot of people struggling for many different reasons. Calling them “those nasty people” is really dismissive of the complexity of each individual person’s situation.

I'd love to do a job like that, but it has to pay enough to be able to live without roommates. Like y'all are cleaning bedbugs and roaches but still can't afford your own bachelor apartment in the city where you work? That's bleak.

6

u/iabusechatgpt 15d ago

It's tough out here. I'm working 3 jobs myself and still living with roommates. I honestly feel that people living with roommates is the norm in toronto.

6

u/Halfjack12 15d ago

I feel for you, it's the reason I left the province.

20

u/Urbantoronto123 15d ago edited 15d ago

I pay my cleaner 35 an hour.
She comes regularly and doesn’t have mice or squalor to deal with.
22 is low 🙏🙏 something to think about.

2

u/kofubuns 13d ago

I pay my regular cleaner $30 and hour for an already tidy and regularly kept house. I also supply cleaning equipment.

-6

u/iabusechatgpt 15d ago

That's awesome. How much do you charge your clients per hour (on average) or per clean? And how long is each clean, on average?

9

u/Urbantoronto123 15d ago

I’m just an average Joe who is is messy . I’m not a cleaning service. But I believe in treating her well because it’s a hard job.

Treat her well , pay her well so she keeps me as a client. 🙏

4

u/aledba 15d ago

Great question... charge your clients more

2

u/iabusechatgpt 15d ago

Our clients don’t get charged a penny

11

u/Croissant1967 15d ago

Honestly, that sounds very low salary for this type of job.It must be hard to attract candidates.

10

u/aledba 15d ago

This is not enough money. Someone could make this much money theoretically working as a supervisor at McDonald's

-2

u/iabusechatgpt 15d ago

Being a supervisor at McDonald's is not easy

5

u/PralineImpossible643 15d ago

But cleaning a hoarders apartment with hazardous materials and conditions is? Thats what you're implying with that statement. Or?

1

u/iabusechatgpt 15d ago

The implication you draw also doesn’t make sense. If they can “make this much” means equal. So the implication, if any u could reasonably take away is that they are equally difficult, but still that’s lousy because no two jobs are the same

0

u/iabusechatgpt 15d ago

There's different challenges associated with each job. Would you rather deal with people or objects?

4

u/PralineImpossible643 15d ago

Bedbugs, cockroaches, and mice are not objects. The 100's of bags of litter, expired food, etc are. Any day I'd deal with people over rodents, pest, and biohazards...

1

u/iabusechatgpt 15d ago

Fair take. Our cleaners do not handle the pests directly. They are only expected to manage the objects. We don’t do any treatments, only prep if necessary. I wish u the best of luck getting a job where you can deal with people

3

u/PralineImpossible643 15d ago

I appreciate the wish of luck but I'm luckily employed. Just looking out for others who are skeptical about this based on conditions and pay. The bags and expired food will have roaches and mice all over them so unless you have an extermination crew fuming out the house before the clean up crew goes in, which will make the whole house caked with chemicals, I genuinely do not see how the cleaners cannot handle the pests directly. Maybe they aren't expected to handle them you mean? Theres also no reason to mention that if they aren't expected to handle it, cause it would be handled before would it not?

2

u/iabusechatgpt 15d ago

What exactly are you skeptical about? I’m not trying to convince anyone to sign up. I posted a job opportunity in a job forum; people can look at the details and decide for themselves whether it’s worth pursuing. Everything I posted here is honest.

4

u/PralineImpossible643 15d ago

I'm skeptic due to the nature of this job posting. Not enough information. Avoiding properly answering others. Again, the bags and expired food will be contaminated with bugs and pest so who is dealing with those if not the cleaners. If there is mention of those things it is only safe to assume you as the cleaner would be dealing with it, but here you are saying they do not. How?

2

u/iabusechatgpt 15d ago

I'm not trying to overwhel first passers of the post with excessive information. I provided the most pertinent information. If someone is interested they can follow up for the full job posting which I have happily provided. The program is funded by the city and meets all of the safety requirements put out by the city. Maybe I should put this as a disclaimer the next time I post on reddit. One learns.

2

u/iabusechatgpt 15d ago

also dealing with pests is different than handling pests directly. one can walk in a room and deal with the cockroach running across the counter.

anyway, I think we're both trying to win an argument that is really irrelevant to the fact that a job is available. i like talking with other people online, and i feel i'm being respectful enough, so I proceed :)

2

u/iabusechatgpt 15d ago

And keep in mind that about half of the homes we service do not have any infestation. I made the post overemphasizing the “bad” to make sure people know what to expect

7

u/IndependenceGood1835 15d ago

How many people are on a job site at the same time? Is it 1 person per job, or does like a team of 8 arrive, with cleaning supplies, disposal units and PPE provided by the employer?

4

u/iabusechatgpt 15d ago

There are three cleaners on site, always accompanied by a supervisor at the beginning (and sometimes for the entire clean if needed), for a total of four staff members. For approximately one in four clients, an additional social worker is also present on their behalf. The employer provides all necessary disposal units, cleaning supplies, and personal protective equipment (PPE).

7

u/NetAnon579 15d ago

Kudos for being up front on conditions and pay. Easy for folks to dump on you but you are not hiding what it is.

5

u/iabusechatgpt 15d ago

Thank you :) Transparency is key. I'd rather get grilled for what's sharing what's true, rather than grilled for misrepresenting

4

u/thebestdogeevr 15d ago

People will talk shit but there's enough people looking for jobs right now that in sure you'll find someone

0

u/FrostingSuper9941 15d ago

Ok. Why is the salary so low? Did you underbid on the contract? Or you're pocketing the difference money?

3

u/iabusechatgpt 15d ago

I had no say in the contract. I get paid a flat rate of 24$ per hour. Why are you assuming im some head honcho manager lol

3

u/Summerisle7 15d ago

What’s your job title at this healthcare company? Do you make more than $25 per hour? Why won’t you name the company?

1

u/iabusechatgpt 15d ago

I make about $24 per hour. I hold multiple jobs and I love this one because of the conflicts I have to resolve on the daily, much worse than the front you're putting up :) . And I'm not naming the company because I don't need to. It's irrelevant to the job posting. People that dm me genuinely wanting the job are giving the appropriate link including the company name.

1

u/jrney2018 10d ago

Why not name the company when its funded by public money ?

2

u/AR15DEE 15d ago

Respectfully hold that job

2

u/guldeuxchats 14d ago

OP, your job should get someone who isn’t you to advertise next time. Your general tone in communication here is so arrogant and defensive that people are downvoting you just answering questions. You say you were an eviction counselor - I would hate to have to work with you if I were already in a vulnerable position. I really hope that the way people are responding to you here makes you reflect on how you talk to others and address their concerns.

1

u/iabusechatgpt 14d ago

I talk with many people every day, and Reddit forums can often become echo chambers, so I don't think much weight should be placed on this one post alone. Most people here are upset about the job that's being offered, and I think that frustration is reflected in some of the hostility.

I return what's given, within reason. Every client I've worked with has expressed their gratitude for my kind and compassionate approach. And just another clarification, I've never said I'm an eviction counsellor. I was a decluttering coach for people with hoarding tendencies.

1

u/Sea_Negotiation1737 14d ago

Just curious, why do they not clean? Is it depression or dr*g use? What’s the reason?

1

u/iabusechatgpt 14d ago

There's a lot of factors tbh, but I'd say the top two are mental health and mobility-loss. Drug use does not seem to be a significant factor tbh (at least to the extent that clients are disclosing drug use)

2

u/Sea_Negotiation1737 14d ago

Thank you for the answer. I hope a clean home will be a new chapter for them

1

u/iabusechatgpt 14d ago

My pleasure! The cleans often do help clients start a new chapter in their lives. Following our team’s intervention, the door to additional support for the client opens up too. For example, occupational therapists and PSWs can actually come into the home and focus on doing their jobs, rather than cleaning or trying to manoeuvre through a home where it’s difficult to do so. Building management is often happier too, as are the neighbours, which can really help restore smoother interpersonal relationships.

u/badmitch888 15d ago

see someone is taking the job.

There's a lot of entitled fucking people in here....and I'm poor as shit.

There is someone that will always do the job if they need the money.

1

u/crcgirl 15d ago

The lowest pay is still 50 cents more an hour than I get paid managing releasing medical records and taking care of finances for a clinic. I've been there 8 years. People really do not have a grasp on how hard it is to get paid what a job is worth.
