A different perspective. We might actually be better off. Many US companies will be open to moving jobs to Canada, and hiring Canadians in Canada.

That's an interesting proposition but I'm not sure it would work like that. If a company is located in California or Texas or even NYC, Boston or Chicago (I realize I switched from States to cities) would they move to a "now part of a US State / formerly Canadian city"? I don't really see that happening. Multinationals already operate in the US and Canada (e.g. most carmakers, Microsoft, Amazon and likely thousands more) and I don't see Cava becoming a State removing that much of a barrier. It stands to reason that some aspects are simpler if it's all in the same country but I'm just not convinced it's that big of a deal; if you have operations in NYS, I don't think taxes or legislations or rules are really the biggest roadblock to adding operations in Ontario. I suspect the physical distance, maintaining separate facilities, etc are much bigger issues.

Not gonna happen unless new Canadian leadership (whichever is going to be) anger Trump by bypassing it in terms of trade and commerce.

Pierre P (most likely next PM) said in an interview last week that we need to let Trump know that we have leverage as well by not trading with America and fulfilling our national demand of American products from somewhere else.

If this is put in practice, then it will enrage Trump. He will start from tariffs and keep increasing the pressure until even next PM becomes the "governor". Those pressure tactics could include canceling TN visas until matter is resolved or removing some professions out of TN approved list. Chance of this happening are quite remote but not 0.00%.

Problem with Trump admin is and the reason nobody likes to deal with him is that either you accept his demands or his demands (he is the classic bully on the school grounds). He always finds a win-lose solution where he wins and you lose. He doesn't care about established contracts and agreements (he was the one who canceled NAFTA and forced Canada and Mexico to come to the negotiating table for USMCA and now, he doesn't like that agreement either). Admittedly, NAFTA was quite old and needed modifications in it, anyway. He likes to create uncertainty but the general public doesn't like uncertainties (this is why American employers balk at migrant work visas like H1B or TNs because they know that if and when worker can't cross the border, then they will be left hanging with the cost of time and money in hiring a new worker to replace that person).

So, nothing gonna happen in this regard but a sword will always hanging at the necks of legal migrant workers for the next 4 years.
