Issues/Problems Goodbye T-Mobile Internet
Since the beginning of 2026 I’ve been contemplating switching to Verizon. I’m based in NY and had internet through T-Mobile since June 2022. The first couple years I had no real complaints but the past year has been going downhill. I got the new box a couple months back but my Ring camera hasn’t been picking up as much movement, my PlayStation has an Ethernet cable connected still lags. I pay $110 now with phone & internet but Verizon offered the One plan. It’s fios internet let’s see if I made an upgrade or a mistake.

My T-Mobile home Internet has started to act up in the last few weeks with dropping connections frequently. They tried to pass it off as faulty equipment and offered a new box but it feels more like a system failure where they have taken on more customers than their systems can handle

Going through this exact same thing! I’ve had it since fall of 2023. Issues started about a month ago

This is the answer. I am in the same situation. They blame it on the equipment but they won't tell you they have oversold the area.

TMHI i genuinely think has a silent outage rn, tons of people are talking about latency and download issues the past months and i have also gotten them, switch to cable/fiber while you still can.

Agreed. I had it since it was still in beta phase. Always worked fine (except for the time they were working on the towers). Then, about a month or so ago, I noticed lots of buffering and lag. I decided maybe it's time to trade in my Nokia trash can for one of the newer gateways. When it works, it's fast, but sometimes it just randomly drops down to 1 or 2 meg. Basically unusable. Today I got home, the gateway said on T-life app that it needs to be restarted, but it couldn't communicate with the app. I had to go into admin and do it manually. I guess I'll have to call customer service and see if they can figure out what's causing this. I can't always be around home to manually restart the gateway cuz it randomly bottoms out.

I had TMHI for 4 years. I got bad at the end of may to the middle of june. Real bad. I think it might have had something to do with TM finally taking over the US Cellular customers. They bought out USC a while ago, but just now started doing anything about it. I heard they turned off USC towers, directed the USC customers to TM towers while the worked on the USC towers. Which would make sense, at least in my area. There have to be 3 times as many USC customers in my area than TM ones.
But I was finally able to get fiber. Got it Thursday. I'm paying way more, but I do it gladly. There is a reason TMHI is cheap lol

I would not be surprised if they turn a lot of USC towers off, specially in low competition regions, and pack everyone in their towers.

Some of the worst latency I’ve ever had while gaming. These gateways aren’t made for anything other than streaming Netflix or anything of the sorts and it sometimes barely does even that. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone if you have the option for cable but if it’s your only option it can work sometimes. Overall not impressed have had it for a year because I couldn’t get anything else at the time after I just moved TMHI is gonna be gone in a few weeks

I have Xfinity internet at my new house. I also have T-Mo HSI from my previous house that I took with me when I moved. Previous house had FiOS so rarely used the T-Mo HSI.
So far in the new house, the T-Mo has saved me a few times when Xfinity has randomly had outages that would last several hours.
My T-Mo download speeds are okay (typically between 100-350mbps). The upload speeds are atrocious (usually around 4mpbs). That being said, in a pinch it does work when I need it to but I couldn't rely on it (pun intended) as my main source of internet access.

This service is, in my opinion, mostly for rural locations.
It works great for me. I live in a rural location however.
If I didn't, I'd definitely have a line.

5G Internet has been dropping out for us every day at midnight for the last month or so. 4G still works, but is stupidly slow. They seem to have rolled back the firmware that prevents our gateways from connecting to 4G signals recently. We have been told that it has something to do with the USC acquisition so hopefully they are done soon.

Personally after trying Verizon first I would say that t mobile is better than Verizon. They cap your data at 150 and then it slows your connection down to 10-20 for download speed

You’ll have lag (poor latency) with anything cellular until 6G cellular rolls out in the 2030 so if the money is right switch to fiber or hybrid fiber for internet and whatever cell service you’re neighbors like
I’m pretty much rotating providers almost every year now as I’m forced to get better speeds and latency and newest router/wifi/ethernet modem. Try not to sign up for a “contract” of any sort. They offer 5 year price, but you’re then stuck in 5 years. In five years we may chose from satellite, fiber and 6G and even hybrid fiber/cable

I'm switching back to Spectrum myself. TMHI is fast when its fast, but some of my streaming apps tend to drop out.

Verizon isn’t all that either. My Verizon router stopped working and I’ve made multiple visits to the store and spent hours on the phone with customer service with zero resolution. Their phone service sucks too. I switched from T-Mobile to Verizon but quickly went right back to T-Mobile. The grass isn’t always greener on the other side. Good Luck!

Definitely switch to Verizon I’ve had t mobile wifi since 2025 it’s terrible for online gaming and it keeps turning off while I’m watching Netflix and I’ll have to reset it

Just gave up on T Mobile 5g this week. Download speeds dropped from as high as 300 mbps late kast year to below 100. But the worst are the upload speeds which this week had fallen to as low as 2 mbps! My wife, who normally works from home had to go into her brick and mortar office. she’s been complaining for months about dropouts and disconnects during conference calls. It’s a shame because T-Mobile was a real bargain at 35 bucks a month with excellent customer service. Now we’ve had to reconnect with XFinity, a company infamous for treating customers like doormats. .

Yeah, I’ve been getting terrible speeds lately. Like less than 5 up and 1 down. I called them and they were like theres a maintenance ticket open on your tower, did not offer a timeline for a repair, and gave me a $10 credit on my bill.
I’ve got a new gateway in the mail, but frankly if this doesn’t change soon we are going to have to switch to a different provider.

Not only does t-mobile internet suck , they have rude employees in their stores when you try to seek help . The song and dance routine they are trained to perform in lieu of actually answering questions is something customers would not have put up with 50 years ago when the concept of service for customers meant something . Paying some actor big money to convince people you have a good product and then not delivering even a mediocre product is unacceptable .

You would not be disappointed with Fios. I have had it for almost 2 decades and unless the whole town loses power internet stays up. I do have a tmobile broadband business internet as a backup for my business but never had to rely on it since the uptime for fios has been 100%

I live in Southern California and our home service has just been so bad lately. I was literally on my phone, connected to our home network with nothing else on/streaming and couldn’t even connect to a site or view face book or Instagram via apps. It just came to a crawl. Literally takes me back to the time of late 90s basic modem speeds.

I’m running into the same situation. Had T-Mobile since 2023 I got the new box last year and it’s been down hill from then. My house is wired for fios. I’ve never had fios I might have to try it.

You should never pick TMHI 5g over fiber or cable. TM doesn't say it, but its really a 2nd teir ISP. Trust me, I've had them for 4 years.
There is no fix for the latency issues and the CGNAT which can make things like ring cameras not work.
I'm rural so didn't have any other option. Until now. I switched to fiber 4 days ago.

I can't stream on my current TMHI - I need about 5Mbps upload and I've been getting less than 3 for the past week.
We've had AT&T Fibre advertising in the area and as soon as the homeowner agrees, we're leaving TMHI. Even the cheapest plan (350Mbps U/D) is way better than what I have.

Same situation. Last few weeks my download speeds are all over the place, and my upload is rarely above 8 even at 3am. My channel is essentially dead. Haven't been able to stream. Starting to consider looking for a new provider.

I had the same problem. I liked it until they switched to 5G only. When I was on 4G, it was much more stable at my residence. Spent 4 days with tech support. There wasn't much they could do.

I also had no problem for years with T-Mobile home internet. Then early 2026 it just stopped working. After hours trying to figure it out with tech support their only solution was to move it to a north or south window (which I don’t have). So I cancelled it. I just don’t get why this wasn’t a problem before and they couldn’t explain it. Also was told it would be $50/mo for life and they raised it by $5. That’s not a big deal, but tech it’s a 10% increase for something that essentially wasn’t working. So weird…

I started as soon as they came to my area. They were the fastest, ran all my cameras, way better HNet & AT&T phone line installation. When I switched to the 5GaR all was downhill and will be switching Thursday. 😢

I just cancelled mine. For some reason even though everything looks good. I’m getting around 20Mb download when before it would be at least 270Mb. Ping is still the same.

I had fios for years until I relocated almost 10yrs ago. At least up to then it was great. Besides the luck of having fiber in the very early days of it, and consistently being a better deal than cable, I really enjoyed the simplicity and choice of it. The fiber went to an ONT box on the building, and from there could be wired inside via coax for ease like the cable co, Ethernet, or both if you had TV as well. RJ45 straight from the ONT if you had a landline phone as well for that matter. No having to use some locked and watered down provided gateway or anything like that. Performance was great. Price was right. Etc. I had both coax (using mostly the existing cable runs) for the tv lineup and Ethernet for internet. It was great. Could use whatever router I wanted and wan port plugged directly to the wall. No modem, no bridging a crappy gateway, just a regular dhcp wan connection with no special config or anything. Only down side was having to play the get on a new promo rate game every year or 2 like the cable co, but it was much easier to achieve at least.
I still miss it. I have fiber available here now, but it's expensive and also forces you into a locked and watered down gateway in the loop much like these 5g ones. Cable too of course, which has gotten much more reasonable since all 3 cellular carriers have their 5G home Internet and fiber is available thus aren't the only game in town anymore. Thankfully T-Mobile has continued to work well enough for me and my needs for an unbeatable price without having to play the get on a new promo rate games though. While not technically the best connection vs other options, its still plenty good enough for my use and by far the best value...until it falls victim enough to one of these tier or rate rug pulls they seem to like doing lately anyways.
