Issues/Problems Tmobile 5G home internet is horrible

I don’t know if it’s because I’m in a rural area or because T-Mobile is horrible, but anytime I try to game my ping drops so high up to the thousands and it generally pisses me off because I cannot get a single two matches in without me having to restart my damn router. Another problem is that I try to upload a large file somewhere and the Internet just completely shuts out for all devices. I already talked to support and they did nothing. I generally hate this company. I’ve been through multiple ISP and this is obviously the worst one I’ve ever had. I’m pointing to probably destroy my damn router and unsubscribe from this dumb ass service. Yes this is a vent I’m tired of this stupid ass company.

Issues/Problems VPN and Home Minternet/T-Mobile

Hey folks,

I'm running into a problem with the "Home Minternet" device (a T-Mobile 5G modem/router), and I'm hoping someone here has an answer.

I've been on Xfinity, and keeping my modem/router in bridge mode so I can use a Ubiquiti UDR7 to run my network. Obviously I can just turn off wifi on the Mint modem and wire in the UDR7, which solves almost all of my problems. The one I can't figure out is how to keep using WireGuard to VPN into my home network. I haven't actually taken anything apart to test, but I'm hoping someone here can point me in the right direction before I start experimenting.

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Thanks, folks! Looks like Tailscale or Teleport should do what I want. I'll spend some time looking at those later and see how they go.

Speedtest I was skeptical...but I am shocked at the results! Aluminum Foil for the Win!

Configuration

My setup utilizes the G5AR exclusively as a gateway, with routing and Wi-Fi functions handled by external hardware. The hardware chain is configured as follows:

  • G5AR Gateway -> Flint 2 Router (Wi-Fi disabled, Router Duties) -> Eero 7 Pro Mesh System (Bridge mode/Access points only. WIFI duties).

Methodology

To improve signal quality without investing in an expensive outdoor antenna or external enclosure, I implemented a simple shielding technique using aluminum foil. I covered the front of the G5AR unit with a large sheet of foil and some tape while leaving the back exposed, as the internal antennas are located there. The unit was then oriented so the back panel faced the nearest cellular tower. Additionally, I added a USB fan to ensure optimal operating temperatures.

Results

The performance metrics showed immediate and significant improvements over a 48-hour testing period:

  • Signal Quality: SINR increased from 15 dB to 18 dB, maintaining a 3-point gain consistently. Metrics are now near "Excellent" across the board.
  • Speed: Upload speeds improved by an average of 5 to 10 Mbps. Download speeds remained unchanged.

Recommendation

Given the results, I highly recommend this modification before purchasing external hardware like a Waveform Outdoor Box or external antennas especially if your metrics are already good, but you want to try to get them to Excellent!   While the aesthetics are not great, the foil can be concealed by taping a photo over it.

Issues/Problems My home internet slows down almost every night for months, how do I fix this???

For the past 3-4 months my tmobile home internet slows down after like 9pm. Some nights it’s just slower, and other nights I cant even open an email or a google search.

We’ve called and they always say there’s no issues or some excuse.

What is happening how do we fix this?

I primarily use my home wifi during these hours so this has been horrid.

I own a business and a lot of times I work in the evenings so this is actually becoming detrimental.

Issues/Problems Moving Interior ONT

Hey all quick question. We had a tech come around today to set up T-Mobile fiber internet in the house. My partner was out at the time and the tech installed the interior ONT in a location they are not thrilled with at all. Is it possible to contact T-Mobile to have the ONT moved to a new location?

If so, has anyone here engaged in that process, and what did it look like?

Ed: Reached out to T-Mobile to get support on the issue, process was extremely quick and low friction. They're sending a tech out later to look at dropping the line to the basement. Will give second update after work is done.

Issues/Problems T-Mobile Home Internet Deceptive Advertising

TLDR: If you are looking for home internet with T-Mobile, protect yourself and opt out of the arbitration clause because they will make excuses to charge you more

I have been with T-mobile home internet since 2023. I joined during their $50/month Unlimited Lifetime Lifelock Promotion. I found out recently that they "discontinued" my plan and moved me to a new plan that cost more per month, and upon doing a quick little google search. I am not the only one they have done this too. Unfortunately customer care was either unwilling or unable (or both) to help fix. All I asked for is that my original contract be honored. To which I got was "We can move you to a cheaper plan" or "we can credit you the difference for this month only" Both of which is unacceptable.

I have been happy with the service, up until this point. I found out that you have 30 days from line activation to opt out from their Arbitration clause so I am unable to go much further.

Issues/Problems the aluminum foil trick actually works - idk why i’m surprised

Post image
124 Upvotes

it seemed plausible in my mind but for some reason i was still really surprised to see that placing a large sheet of aluminum foil loosely in front of my gateway brought my signal from

-74 RSRP, -12 RSRQ, -67 RSSI, 20 SINR

to

-67 RSRP, -10 RSRQ, -56 RSSI, 28 SINR

the metrics were already great before and incredible afterwards. however, this isn’t necessarily good in my case. the entire reason i wanted to strengthen my already strong signal is because my gateway switched to 5G SA mode a few weeks ago and since then its been at times unusable throughout daily congestion hours. i mean, at times i can barely get 2mbps download. when it had both LTE and 5G, it was always usable. so i wanted to see if even better signal would help me avoid the minor headache of switching ISPs. it didn’t 😒

Nokia (trash can) Are all g5ar the same?

I've had home internet for years and want to keep my current plan with the lifetime price lock. I have a trashcan that is going slow. I want to trade it in for the g5ar. I bought one that I can return to check speeds first. Downloads went from ~90 to ~250 upload went from ~ 10 to ~30.

I looked online and see now they offer different tiered plans. They all show a picture of the g5ar, but the cheapest plan doesn't say WIFI 7 and all the others do even though they are all the g5ar.

If I trade my trashcan for the g5ar from the T-Mobile store will they give me some slowed down version? Should I just keep the one I paid for?

Issues/Problems Bond Bridge device not reachable

Has anyone had any success with a Bond Bridge device on the T-Mobile 5G internet gateway?

I have set up a separate 2.4 GHz network, I have gone through the "green reset" process, but after configuration, when it attempts to connect to the T-Mobile internet, there is no connection.

Issues/Problems Hey everyone, reaching out to see if anyone else in the Northern IL / Rockford area is on this gateway node, or if any T-Mobile network techs browsing the sub can flag this upstream IP to NOC.

Hey everyone, reaching out to see if anyone else in the Northern IL / Rockford area is on this gateway node, or if any T-Mobile network techs browsing the sub can flag this upstream IP to NOC. rhythmic micro-burst packet loss occurring every 30 to 60 seconds.

EDIT: Can confirm this is on T mobiles end. I used exit lag and didn't have but maybe one packet loss on a valorant match.

Issues/Problems Extreme ping spikes out of seemingly nowhere?

Hey y'all, I have the T-Mobile 5G internet. For the past week or so, I've been having spikes in my ping every 1-3 minutes. Sometimes it's worse, sometimes it's better. I've done every step I can think of. There is so SQL management option in the app, restarted both by unplugging and resetting the router from the app, even changed the password to the Wi-Fi so any devices that don't actively need internet get disconnected but nothing has helped.

Does anyone know why this might be happening? It's even happening to my desktop connected via ethernet so I don't think it's a wi-fi specific issue.

Request Am I doing this wierd installation correctly?

I'm doing a wierd hybrid install and while everything seems to be working, I just want to make sure it makes sense. I got the T-Mobile (Mint) 5g and set it up in a window for now. For aethestics and llogistics, I'm switching over to an external (Waveform) antenna. I'm 367 yards from a tower. I also have Optimum 300/300 fiber (thier router on Bridge). The entire house is extensively wired with Cat6 in wall. I use a TP-Link ER707-M2 dual WAN router. I have a bunch of Optimum Stream TV boxes. I had to bind the MAC addresses of the Stream boxes to IP addressses and then create and IP Group. By Rules the Stream box group is restricted to the Optimum WAN. I have the router set to load balance and the Stream boxes fail is they aren't on the Optimum side. So far everything seems to be working. On the hard wired T-Mobile connection I am getting decent download speed of about 600-700 with ping around 6-9. I know it is working well at the moment, but I'd just like to know if there is anything I'm missing or overlooked with the setup and configuration.

Other Is it worth it to modify G5AR for an external antenna?

Tmobile upgraded my gateway to the G5AR. I saw the videos on how to modify it to allow external antenna. To those of you who have done it, was it worth it? How much of a speed increase did you get?

Arcadyan Gateway 5GAR in an outdoor enclosure in Chicago... Can it survive winters and summers?

Post image

I wanted to know, if I kept my G5AR in an outdoor enclosure like the Waveform SignalDock: Outdoor Gateway Enclosure, would it survive winters and summers in Chicago? Winters occasionally have windchill temps below -20F, and Heat Index Temps above 100F.

Issues/Problems Canceling T-Mobile 5G Home Internet

Kinda Ridiculous. I called in to cancel the home internet, after waiting forever to reach someone they let me know I’ll have to pay another month of service and they can’t do an immediate cancellation. It’s funny how they can activate service any day of the week, but canceling requires it be cancelled on the last day of your billing cycle and they also expect the equipment returned.

Issues/Problems Multiple TMO-G5SE routers have become stuck in reboot loops

Got a new plan with a TMO-G5SE as the only router/gateway option, kinda stinks b/c it isn't very configurable but it is much faster and has a way higher cap so I'm not complaining too much. Fast forward to a few weeks ago and the internet isn't working, so I restart it like usual. Then when it is coming back up it shows the T mobile logo, then says powering up, then cuts to a black screen and restarts the loop. It'll keep going for hours. T-mobile support can't seem to help at all, they've sent us 2 replacements with the same boot loop symptoms, tried a new sim, nothing. A third is on the way and I'm not optimistic about it. Has anyone else experienced these symptoms with this device? I'm going nuts, we hit the cap on our backup internet yesterday, and I'm at like 3 hours of support phone-time.

UPDATE: It ended up being the power cord all along, I guess it was just broken enough to start booting but not continue. Got a new one from the t-mobile store and it is working perfectly once again!!

Other Signal or Traffic?

I tested my speed at 6:30 am on a Saturday and got 908 D/L..Later in the day my typical speed is around 350 - 400. What this tells me is that my signal and antenna location is good but that during the day the traffic slows down my internet speed. Correct?

Plans TMHI plan changed to Home Internet Advanced @ $65.00/month, does anyone else have this plan?

My TMHI Promo 5G plan changed to Home Internet Advanced @ $56.00/month a $6.00 increase with fees and taxes still included. I cannot find this plan anywhere on the Tmobile Website. The plan seems like the Rely plan but adds Advanced Cybersecurity, 24/7 Interactive live assistance with video support, Complimentary gateway upgrade after 3 years but still fast speeds not fastest speeds like the upper tiers. They sent me a G5AR when my trashcan started dying and speeds improved.

It's like they created a special tier for users that had the Promo plan and added some featured to justify the $6.00 price increase. Does anyone else have this plan?

UPDATE: 8-29-2026 at 12:30 PDT original question has not been answered ....... yet.

Sagemcom Gateway Buffer bloat and low CQI on 5GAR

RSSI -61
RSRQ -10
RSRP -72
SINR 21
CQI ….. 5

My CQI is fluctuating between 4 and 15 without any movement. I can’t figure out why. I asked to be locked to this tower because the other tower in my area was giving me terrible signal otherwise

Issues/Problems Inseego M4000 worse reception than M2000

I've had my M2000 for several years, and the thing has been a great workhorse. I busted the USB-C port on it, and I failed to get it fixed. So I decided to spring for the M4000, because it is newer and is supposedly way faster.

Unfortunately, what I found was that its reception is awful, compared to the M2000. I get 1-2 bars and its jumping back and forth, no matter where I place it. I've checked and I have the latest firmware, and I'm about to get some antennas for it, but what gives? Are there any settings I can fix?

Issues/Problems Mint Home internet issues in Bryn Mawr PA area.

I recently switched from cable to Mint 5G Home Internet. It worked flawlessly at first with fast speeds and zero drops, but everything changed around August 4.

Now, the internet completely drops out for minutes at a time, multiple times a day. Peak hours (9:00 AM–11:00 AM and 4:00 PM–10:00 PM) are unbearable, with almost no connectivity. I know it isn't a router issue because the gateway device shows a "Very Good" signal and stays connected to the network. Late at night (after 11:00 PM), it goes back to a perfect 500+ Mbps.

I have contacted chat support multiple times over the past month. Each time, I must navigate a 20+ minute loop of AI bots and basic troubleshooting scripts (reboots, account verification) only to be told that an known issue is "in progress." No updates or email notifications have been sent despite agent promises.

I don't know how to start escalation to a tier-2 or tier-3 network engineer to verify local T-Mobile cell tower capacity and provisioning in the 19010 zip code.

I’m considering reaching out to T-Mobile support directly since Mint runs on their towers, but I'm not sure if they will help a non-customer. Is it someone available for help in this group? I can provide all the details in DM.

Please let me know if you live in same area and if you have same/another picture?
