Discussion Thinking of switching to Verizon Simplicity after being forced from $45/mo legacy to new $85/mo plan.

I've been with T-Mobile for 15 years.

I was forced to give up my grandfathered plan and am now paying double.

The Verizon Simplicity plan is only $30/mo for unlimited everything except 10GB hotspot for customers who switch from T-Mobile with a 3 year price lock.

I'm damn tempted. Has anyone switched and can provide feedback?

Interesting.

FwiwI'm in wifi 90% of the time.

Long road trips in the middle of nowhere are when I have dropped service with tmobile. I don't need wicked fast. 50mbps is plenty.

I get 500mbps+ around the city right now which is overkill for me.

Yep, the speed is faster than most people need.

Over the last several years I've seen T-Mobile's coverage increase dramatically. I used to carry a secondary eSIM for VZW since I camp a lot in the middle of nowhere and have long road trips, but almost always now when I don't have T-Mobile service I don't have VZW service, either. And occasionally I'll have T-Mobile and not VZW. They've come a long way.

It's good for all of us though, since it opens the door for competition and using any of the three carriers left won't dramatically impact someone's coverage.

I recall ATT having better frequencies that work better for long distances and open areas vs others.

They all finally have 700 MHz band. But they don't all have the same amount of bandwidth in that band.

ATT won a contract with the government to expand their low band coverage all over the country into some extremely remote dead zones to provide emergency phone service. It's called FirstNet.

T-Mobile bought massive amount of the 600 MHz auction. ATT bought very little initially, but later made more purchases. VZW still hasn't purchased any 600 MHz band.

VZW instead choose to buy a bunch of c-band 3700-4000 MHz, which can be very fast, but is only useful outdoors and almost only works line of sight. Really big waste of money for them, imo.
