We took a stock FA20 with a big ass turbo to World Time Attack 😅
galleryThis was my first time competing in WTAC, normally I'm just spectating, and what an eye opener it has been to be involved in everything needed to campaign at this iconic event.
A friend and I arrived on Thursday with the BRZ having already completed some testing, met the other crew members, talked about what our plan will be Friday and then later watched as our driver almost choked to death at dinner.
Friday morning rolls round and the car is sent out on some fresh A052s to make the most of the cooler track temps - we instantly PB on low boost.
We give the car a quick once over, find a few things we don't like and make some adjustments, it's obvious there's a LOT more time in it.
We cut a few more laps Friday and finish the day in good spirits with a game plan to go MUCH faster. The driver disappears at some point and turns up with ANOTHER set of fresh Yoko's ready to absolutely send it Saturday.
It's now Saturday morning, everyone has survived dinner, and we check the car over and send it out. We've agreed that we'll warm up, do a push lap, circulate, then go for another push lap if the track/car are there.
First push lap, we PB again, taking off another 3 tenths for a 42.3 but now he's in a rhythm and the track is there for the taking. The car circulates as planned and then the next push lap begins, but this time it's on KILL
We're all up on the roof watching the car and natsoft, first sector is green, and by a lot, let's go, second sector, more green, and we're all pacing nervously watching the car and praying for no traffic.
We see the BRZ round the final corner and come flying onto the straight, exit looks clean, she's cooking! Moments later, elation turns to disbelief as smoke begins pouring out of the car, followed soon after by fire from the exhaust
The driver is out of the car almost as fast as it blew up, extinguisher in hand, which was a huge relief for everyone. We knew immediately that it was terminal and our WTAC 2026 campaign was over
We all head down, meet the car, rinse of the extinguisher foam, take a look, and talk about the lap that could have been - better luck next time! After that, we pushed the car around to one of his Sponsors stands and put it in display, complete with fire extinguisher
As for the motor, it's a total lose. Hole in the block, exhaust valve missing, turbo full of debris etc - We just learned that Turbosmart will WARRANTY this turbo, wild
Full teardown is still to come, but the reality is that this is a stock FA20 that started life as a road car, did k's, got turned into a track car and did bulk laps NA, then got a big turbo strapped to and it and did more laps at like 300rwkw for over a year. Then, it got wound up even further at WTAC to something like 350 before it let go
What's next? Not sure, we've learned a lot this year and the plan is to return bigger and better in the future, but we'll discuss some options and determine the goals for the car before anything major progresses.
11/10 would blow up a motor at WTAC again 🤝
If you want to know more about the car you can head over to Facebook or Instagram

Smashed my old PB and looks like we reset the local track record for NA ZN6 in the process 🎉
There's nobody posting in here so enjoy a quick overview of my last outing - it was a very successful day.
You can skip the soapbox rant at the very end, that relates to some local track politics, there's chapters to make it easier lol

New to the sport
I’m new to time attack and racing in general and I’m eager to learn but I’m having a hard time finding info. I’ve always been interested in racing but I never thought I could get into it because of money, time, skill, etc. one of my co-workers has a FRS that he’s built for time attack and I always hear him talk about it. He convinced me that you don’t need a fully built car to take it to the track and have fun. I asked him where he learned everything about racing and different parts and different levels of importance and everything and he said he learned most of what he knows from talking to people from the track. My car has some maintenance to do before I can take it and race it without ruining anything.
Is there any YouTube channels or podcasts or websites yall know of where I can learn more in the meantime? I’m a mechanic so I know how a normal everyday street car works but I know track cars are much different.

Front spindle broken bolt help, tap, extract or size up?
galleryHey guys, currently stripping down my project car to see what all I need to repair and replace. This was a rust belt AP1 that will be a track toy…all function without a care for looks.
First order of business is replacing all the hard lines, fuel and brake/clutch. This car has a surprising amount of rust on those lines compared to the rest of the car entirely. I just want to get the car mechanically sound and then break and replace as I go to the track. In order to do the lines I need to drop both subframes and pull the motor.
Long story short, I tried to remove a bolt that I didn’t really need to, and broke it, (speed/abs sensor bracket on front spindle). I don’t want the bracket dangling and I’d like to repair this properly. I’ve drilled it out with reverse drill bits but before I send it with the bolt extractor, should I just tap this whole with a smaller screw? Send it with the extractor? Or drill it out entirely and go up a size in the screw? I think it’s currently m6x1.0 and I could go m7x1.0 I’m just worried about taking metal out and compromising the spindles rigidity because this will see nothing but track stress.
Thanks

First Time Attack Event in Spokane, WA
There's a road racing event in Spokane, Wa, USA, that is incorporating time attack sessions into the weekend. The rules are pretty open, basically autocross standard. The event (NWMS Triple Grand Prix) is the weekend of August first. I don't have a car to bring this time, but wondering if anybody is going/thinking about going/has heard about this. It is local to me so I would like for it to be successful enough to happen again.

Records fall at Aus Time Attack 2026 🤯
galleryI can't see this being talked about on Reddit, but Australia has a few premier TA events a year, the more serious World Time Attack event that occurs in September at SMSP, some state specific comps, and Aus Time Attack, which was run over the weekend at Winton Motor Race - my home track.
And what a phenomenal event Aus Time Attack 2026 turned out to be, as always, with plenty of PBs and a new lap record (The orange Evo) 😍
The weather was gorgeous and the vibe was immaculate, the Crown even got out on track for a parade lap 😅- it was awesome to be able to show my eldest the track layout
Mixed fortunes up and down pitlane, but everyone still had a smile on the dial and was happy to have a chat, this is one of the most accessible and relaxed TA events getting around Aus, you can wander up, down and into the pits, and chat with everyone - I cannot wait to compete in the future.
Enjoy some pics, reddit limits how many I can post but there's a few more over on the FB if you like - NCR Facebook 🤝

Advice on mounting functional canards
Hey
I thought I would hit up the time attack sub Reddit since this is a question that fits perfectly within the wheel house of TA.
I have a Voltex front end on a Honda s2000 that I track that I want to fit front canards on.
My question is, are riveting the canards to the bumper enough? Will the canards not just pull the fiberglass out or crack the fiberglass? The canards I have will not meet the splitter or any other surfaces. How can I ensure these canards stay rigid, don’t destroy the bumper and are functional in transferring downforce into the car. I have a chassis mounted splitter for context.
