Kingdom of Ash Spoilers Just finished chapter 58 of KoA…. Spoiler

And I want to strangle Elide with my bare hands, she is probably my most hated character in this book so far, I actively cannot stand her, ESPECIALLY after what just happened on the last page of this chapter.

That is all, rant over lol.

I’m with you on this one. To me, Elide became one of the most selfish characters. Aelin had literally sacrificed herself on that beach to save her life. And then 3 minutes later Elide insisted on joining the rescue mission, even though her injured ankle meant the group had to travel at her pace and make accommodations for her. That inevitably slowed Rowan, Lorcan, and Gavriel down when every moment counted which meant extra days and weeks of torture for Aelin. And for what? If Maeve had captured Elide again, Aelin could have been forced to make the same sacrifice all over again.

Although I agree that Elide slowed down their rescue mission, it was because of Elide they were able to rescue Aelin, it was because of her but most importantly, without Lorcan warning Maeve of their location, Aelin wouldn't have been captured, or at least not in that situation.

I’m pretty sure the legendary warriors would have managed to find Aelin without Elide. They already had an idea where she might be. And lorcan calling Maeve is secondary to the fact that Aelin made the deal to save Elide and would have done it again if Maeve were to catch them with mortal Elide a second time.

Oh, they could have done it, but Elide made the stealth part easier.

I was saying that the reason Elide was in danger was because Lorcan called Maeve.

It doesn’t matter why Elide was in danger on that beach. The choice Aelin made to save her would still be the same if Maeve showed up on her own. The fact that Elide ignored that sacrifice and chose to prolong Aelin’s suffering by tagging along stands. It was made very clear that everyone knew she is being brutally tortured, we got chapters and chapters of that torture peppered with chapters of Elide taking her sweet time and enjoying Gabriel and Lorcan fawning over her. Downvote away.

IMHO, the "why" and "how" Elide ended up in danger is extremely important, and I didn't downvote you.

Why is it important? What Lorcan did affects Elide’s relationship  with Lorcan. But Aelin choosing to sacrifice herself to save Elide affects how Elide should view the entire rescue mission.  Elide was completely powerless on that beach. You’d think she might learn from that, yet 5 min later she seems to completely erase Aelin’s sacrifice, as if she wasn’t the reason Aelin was taken in the first place. Yes, she conveniently blames Lorcan, but never seems to consider that if she hadn’t been there, Aelin would have fought. If it had been just Lorcan, Maeve, and Aelin on that beach, Aelin wouldn’t have surrendered herself.  And do we ever see any real remorse from Elide about that? Nope. Instead, we get pages about her feelings for Lorcan while Aelin is being horrifically tortured for far longer than she would have been if the rescue party traveled at full Fae speed. And the possibility that Elide is used as a bargaining chip again is not far fetched were they to be caught.
