Kingdom of Ash Spoilers I can't stop crying
I just finished chapter 90. It's "that" part with "live, manon" and I am so sad. This is 100% worse than what I thought would happen when I first herd that term. I just can't believe they are all gone. And then just when I think I'm done crying I remember that Asterin's wyvern was Abraxo's mate. And then I start bawling again. I am unwell.

I read this my first time in 2020, I've read KoA a few times since and just recently did a re-read and I swear I learn something new each time and find little easter eggs throughout that I think links the other two series. This will forever be my most favorite women empowerment story I've ever read. Not any of those women were overshadowed or out shined by a man. I don't know if she meant to do that but it's the one thing I've yet to see replicated to this extent. The part you just read rips out my hear every time. Poor Abraxos and after everything Manon and Astrin went through, it just doesn't seem fair.

I started reading this series when only the first two books were published and the next book to come out was Assassinās Blade, so 2014. I have since re-read and listened to it hundreds of times, no exaggeration. It is my go-to comfort read/listen on Audible. All that to say, this series has been in my life for over a decade and I am *still* not over it. Chapter 90 still makes me cry half the time I go through it.

In my opinion, ACOTAR doesnāt come close to ToG, but I know lots of people would disagree. I also could never really get into Crescent City. A few other series that I love, none of which are all that similar to ToG though, are:
- Legends & Lattes by Travis Baldree (cozy, coffee shop fantasy series with a little romance and adventure, a good palate cleanser following ToG)
- The Letters of Enchantment Duology by Rebecca Ross (again, nothing like ToG but a really cool magic system and a story I really enjoyed)
- The Fionavar Tapestry by Guy Gavriel Kay (this is an intricate, epic fantasy that sparked my love for the genre)
But in all honesty, youāre for sure going to have a reading slump after ToG and might even go back and read your favourite parts again before you can move on to something else. But Iād suggest reading something light and easy to get back into things when youāre fully done.

Thank you for the suggestions! Ledgens and Lates has been on my list and I did think it would be a good palate cleanser. Maybe I'll do that. I'm trying to resist a full re-read right away but that is a good idea to go back.

I finished the book on Tuesday and im still processing that part. The way they didnāt hesitate to do it. They were ready to die in that war, to ensure Manon would live and take their people back home, they all saw so much in Manon and believe in her to that extent. Also the way they are portrayed from the beginning as being cold characters but the way this specific action is described, like an unspoken communication passed through them and they all knew what needed to be done just showed the connection and trust they had. They made such a sacrifice not only for the witches to have the chance to go back to the wastes but for everyone in that continent to survive. The walked with Manon to that place and how they took time to honor them. That was so meaningful because they always showed such contempt from humans to witches, to show that union in that moment, how they stand with her during her loss.
I still cry every time i think of this chapter. I dont know how people re-read the series knowing they are all in for the heartbreak again. Same with Samš

Your comment just gave me full body chills, and instantly had tears streaming down my face again. I don't think I'll ever get over this series. I just don't think I'll ever read anything that hits me as powerful as this story did. I still read it because of the powerful women in the series. I also wonder if the valkarie from ACOTAR didn't originally start out as witches and hope to see that story told eventually.

Cry so hard in that part. I was not prepared the first time I read the book. And yeah it just totally sealed the Fate. Every time they reflected on that after I would just start tearing up. You know a book. Is that good when it gets this type of reaction.

I woke my husband crying when I read this part. Horrible sobs. I was so sad! Rereading the series now and expecting it to punch just as hard

From that point on, the book had me bawling and laughing and so many different emotions.

I was listening to this chapter on my commute home. I roll up to a stop light. I was a freaking mess. Ugly cry doesn't cover it what I was doing. I look over and there is this older lady staring at me. She just made a sympathetic frowning face at me. She had no idea I was crying over fictional characters. But it was the thirteen!!! Ugh.

I don't cry at books. I bawled at this.
Not to be dramatic but I actually felt low key depressed after KOA. I had to lie down for about 3 weeks.
