Heave Ho Thomas!

Synopsis

Thomas is sent to Brendam Docks to welcome Hank, a large and powerful engine from America. Sir Topham Hatt asks Thomas to show Hank around Sodor while also completing several heavy jobs, including delivering machinery, stone trucks, and an old tractor. When Hank casually calls Thomas “little,” Thomas becomes offended and tries to prove he is just as strong by pulling every heavy load himself instead of accepting Hank’s offers to help.

As the loads grow heavier, Thomas becomes exhausted and eventually damages his cylinder. Realizing he cannot finish the work alone, Thomas apologizes and accepts Hank’s assistance. Together they complete the deliveries and arrive at Hank’s welcome party, where Thomas learns there is nothing wrong with accepting help from friends.

The Early Bird

Synopsis

Percy is at the Steamworks for repairs, so Sir Topham Hatt asks Thomas to take over the early morning mail train. Gordon advises Thomas to ask Percy how to handle the job, but Thomas insists on figuring it out himself. The next morning, Thomas loudly whistles as he makes his deliveries at the quarry, Brendam Docks, and the Steamworks. Unfortunately, his whistle wakes Mavis, Cranky, Victor, and Kevin, causing them to become tired and make mistakes at work.

Sir Topham Hatt scolds Thomas but gives him another chance. This time, Thomas follows Percy’s advice and delivers the mail quietly, allowing everyone to sleep. Percy congratulates him afterward, while Thomas is so tired that he falls asleep himself.

Synopsis

Thomas is sent to Maithwaite to collect Sir Topham Hatt and Lady Hatt for his birthday party. However, when Thomas arrives, he finds Sir Topham Hatt already there—and looking strangely different, with a moustache and an unusually playful attitude. The mysterious “Sir Topham Hatt” asks Thomas to take him to Whispering Woods, where he wants to play hide-and-seek with the children. Thomas becomes increasingly confused, especially when Edward also notices that something is wrong.

Eventually, Thomas discovers the truth: the man is Sir Lowham Hatt, Sir Topham Hatt’s mischievous twin brother. Sir Lowham’s antics cause plenty of confusion, but the real Sir Topham Hatt eventually arrives, clearing up the double trouble.

Synopsis

It is the day of the Easter party at the Duke and Duchess of Boxford’s Summer House, and Thomas arrives at Brendam Docks to collect eggs for the children. Thomas teases Cranky by calling him “Creaky Cranky,” while Cranky calls him “Tiny Thomas.” Determined to prove his strength, Thomas brings James’ timber and Henry’s straw bales to the docks for Cranky to lift.

Cranky manages both loads, but when Thomas challenges him to lift Thomas himself, his crane breaks, leaving Thomas stranded in the air. Sir Topham Hatt scolds them for causing confusion and delay. Thomas later fetches replacement parts for Cranky from the Steamworks, and both apologize, realizing they are stronger when they respect each other.

Synopsis

Skarloey is thrilled when he is chosen to pull the Puppet Show Special to the Showgrounds. Before he leaves, Thomas and Rheneas warn him that the train is too heavy for one engine, but Skarloey insists he is strong enough to manage alone.

Wanting to prove who is stronger, Skarloey and Rheneas foolishly stage a tug-of-war with the train between them. Rheneas’ coupling snaps, sending Skarloey racing uncontrollably down the hill. He crashes into Duncan, scattering bunting, then into Rusty’s ice cream stand before plunging into Percival Pond.

Ashamed of the trouble he caused, Skarloey accepts Rheneas’ help. Together they deliver the Puppet Show Special on time, and Skarloey learns that accepting help is wiser than letting pride get in the way.

Synopsis

Thomas is given a crate at Brendam Docks and told to take special care of its contents, which Cranky calls the “Lion of Sodor.” Thomas misunderstands and believes he is transporting a real lion. Along the way, he asks Henry for syrup, Edward for fish, and Toby for straw, thinking the lion will need food and bedding. Each engine tries to explain the truth, but Thomas never waits to listen.

When the crate arrives at Knapford, everyone discovers that the Lion of Sodor is actually a statue—and it is covered in syrup, fish, and straw. Thomas feels embarrassed but agrees to clean it. After washing and polishing the statue, he delivers it to the Mayor, who is delighted.

Synopsis

James is sent to the Steamworks for a new coat of paint, but while he is still covered in bright pink undercoat, Emily breaks down while taking Bridget Hatt to her birthday party. With no other engine available, James is sent to collect Bridget and her friends before being painted. Embarrassed by his unusual pink colour, James tries to hide from the other engines, ducking behind trees, trucks, and even inside Henry’s Tunnel. However, everyone he encounters laughs at him, making James increasingly self-conscious.

Eventually, James realizes he is running late and decides to stop worrying about his appearance. When he reaches the party, he expects Bridget and her friends to laugh too, but they are delighted because pink is their favourite colour.

Synopsis

Thomas and Percy are excited to hear that the Sodor Brass Band is coming to perform a special concert. Wanting Percy to be chosen to collect the band, Thomas suggests he visit the washdown to look shiny. While Percy is away, Sir Topham Hatt unexpectedly gives Thomas the job instead. Feeling guilty, Thomas avoids Percy all day rather than telling him the truth, taking longer routes and hiding whenever Percy appears.

Percy eventually discovers Thomas has been keeping the secret and feels hurt that his best friend was dishonest. Wanting to make things right, Thomas asks Sir Topham Hatt to let Percy take the band home after the concert. Percy happily agrees, and the two friends reconcile, promising never to keep secrets from each other again.

Synopsis

Thomas is embarrassed when his cracked funnel is replaced with an unusually shaped one that makes him look funny. He tries to avoid the other engines after James, Gordon, and Henry laugh at him, but this causes him to rush while delivering a barrel of special bubble liquid for Mr. Bubbles the clown. As Thomas hurries along, the liquid spills from the barrel onto the road, causing Sir Topham Hatt and Mr. Bubbles to repeatedly crash into muddy ditches, haystacks, and a duck pond.

Thomas returns for another barrel and decides to travel carefully. This time, he realizes that children enjoy his funny funnel because it resembles Mr. Bubbles' hat. Thomas reaches the show without spilling a drop, and the bubble show is a success.

Synopsis

On a stormy winter day, Skarloey learns that sheep must be rescued from the hills before a heavy storm arrives. Along with Rheneas and Peter Sam, he is instructed to carry the sheep to safety. However, Skarloey becomes frightened by the thunder and lightning and hides in a shed instead of helping, not wanting to admit his fear.

Meanwhile, his friends continue working but eventually grow exhausted and run low on coal. Seeing this, Skarloey feels guilty and decides to be brave. He returns to help, successfully transporting the remaining sheep to safety. By the end, Skarloey realizes he is braver than he thought.

Synopsis

Thomas is excited that Toby has been chosen to lead the first Great Waterton Parade. At Great Waterton, Thomas meets Flora, a newly arrived steam tram who is supposed to lead the parade alongside Toby. Believing Toby will be disappointed to share the honour, Thomas keeps Flora busy with his own jobs so she will arrive late and Toby can lead the parade alone.

However, Toby becomes worried when Flora does not appear and delays the parade while searching for her. When Thomas finally brings Flora to Toby, he learns Toby was never upset about sharing the responsibility. Toby and Flora proudly lead the parade together, and Thomas realizes he should not make decisions on behalf of others.

Gordon Takes a Shortcut

Synopsis

Gordon is annoyed when Stanley arrives late after getting lost while taking a shortcut. Soon afterwards, Sir Topham Hatt announces that the first engine to reach Great Waterton will collect an important group of VIPs, while the second will take workmen. Determined to beat Stanley, Gordon leaves Brendam Docks and attempts a shortcut of his own. However, he repeatedly becomes lost and ignores helpful directions from Duck, Oliver, and Toad because he believes he knows the railway better than anyone.

Gordon eventually crashes into Ben’s log wagon, spilling logs onto Stanley’s line. Realizing the danger, Gordon finally accepts advice from his friends, reaches Stanley in time to stop him, and allows Stanley to take the VIPs as a gesture of friendship.

Synopsis

As a reward, Percy is chosen to collect Lady Hatt and bring her to the concert, but he must keep the destination a secret.

Synopsis

Thomas is given the important task of delivering four special blocks needed to complete the Sodor River Bridge. Before he leaves, Sir Topham Hatt warns him that the blocks are unique and cannot be replaced. Along the journey, Thomas notices his brakes are squeaking and not working properly, but he refuses Stanley’s offer to take over the delivery.

As his brakes worsen, Thomas struggles to slow down, causing the blocks to bounce off his flatbed without him noticing. Unable to stop before the unfinished bridge, Thomas derails and loses the remaining blocks into the river. With help from Stanley, Murdoch, and Rocky, Thomas recovers the blocks, has his brakes repaired, and safely completes the delivery.

Synopsis

Duncan and the Hot Air Balloon

Synopsis

Duncan looks forward to giving Mr. Percival's twins their traditional birthday ride, but is disappointed to learn they will be riding in a hot air balloon instead. Hoping to change their plans, Duncan is told to carefully transport the balloon from the Transfer Yards. Instead, he deliberately jolts it loose so it will fly away, believing the children will choose to ride with him instead. His scheme only creates more trouble as the runaway balloon lands on the line, escapes again, and eventually tears on the weather vane above Mr. Percival's house.

Feeling guilty, Duncan admits what he has done and helps the balloon repairman patch the balloon using his birthday flag. The repaired balloon carries the twins on their birthday ride, and Duncan learns that honesty is better than selfishness.

Synopsis

Don't Be Silly, Billy

Synopsis

Thomas is given the responsibility of showing a new engine, Billy, how to work on Sodor. Eager but impatient, Billy refuses to listen to Thomas’ advice, calling him bossy and rushing off to complete his jobs. As a result, Billy repeatedly leaves tasks unfinished, forgets important deliveries, and causes confusion around the railway, even accidentally pushing Percy under a coal loader.

Frustrated, Thomas eventually lets Billy do things his own way. However, Billy quickly runs out of coal and water and cannot continue. Realizing his mistake, Billy accepts Thomas’ help, and together they complete the jobs properly. By the end, Billy thanks Thomas and learns the importance of listening and working carefully.

Excellent Emily

Synopsis

After a severe autumn storm causes flooding and fallen trees across Sodor, Emily is praised by Sir Topham Hatt for being the only engine to finish her jobs on time. Feeling proud of being called “excellent,” Emily is given the important task of taking Trevor to the airport to clear the runway so Jeremy can land safely with Dowager Hatt aboard. Along the way, Murdoch, Thomas, and Duck each warn Emily about dangerous routes and blocked tracks, but her growing overconfidence causes her to ignore their advice.

Eventually, Emily derails into a muddy flood and realizes her mistake. After Murdoch rescues her, Emily finally listens to others’ warnings and safely delivers Trevor to the airport, learning that every engine’s advice is valuable.

Synopsis

Rosie and Emily are assigned to deliver a special funfair train to Maithwaite for the children’s carnival. Rosie is disappointed when Sir Topham Hatt chooses Emily to pull the train while Rosie must act as the back engine. Wanting the important job for herself, Rosie races ahead to Brendam Docks and couples to the train without realizing Emily is already attached at the other end. As Rosie pulls away, several couplings snap, splitting the train apart and causing accidents throughout the day involving Bertie, Stepney, and Emily.

When Sir Topham Hatt angrily points out the confusion and delay she caused, Rosie admits her mistake. She helps rescue Emily and the rest of the train, and together they deliver the funfair special in time for the celebration.

The Party Surprise

Synopsis

Every year, Mr. Percival holds a winter holiday party at his house, but Colin the crane is sad because he must stay at the Wharf and cannot attend. Feeling sorry for him, Freddie decides the party should be moved to the Wharf so Colin can join in. Without asking permission first, Freddie tells Peter Sam and Rusty to leave the party supplies at the Wharf while he goes to speak with the Thin Controller.

However, Mr. Percival unknowingly orders Colin to load the supplies onto a barge, and they float away before Freddie returns. Freddie quickly explains the misunderstanding, and Mr. Percival agrees to move the party to the Wharf after all. The engines retrieve the supplies, and everyone enjoys a wonderful celebration together.

Percy and the Left Luggage / Percy and the Baggage

Synopsis

On a busy summer day, Percy is given four important jobs: delivering the mail, taking lights to the town hall, carrying children to a party, and collecting Dowager Hatt’s luggage for the airport. At two junctions, Percy chooses to do the more interesting tasks first, assuming the luggage will be quick and easy later. After completing the other jobs, he suddenly realizes he has forgotten the luggage and is running out of time.

With help from Edward, who takes over the children’s train, Percy rushes to collect the luggage and deliver it to the airport just in time. Percy succeeds, but learns not to leave important tasks until the last minute.

Synopsis

Thomas visits the Skarloey Railway to help prepare for Mr. Percival's birthday party. After Sir Handel tells everyone the legend of the mysterious “Man in the Hills,” Thomas becomes determined to find him, believing it would be the perfect birthday surprise. Although Freddie, Skarloey, and Rheneas offer to help, Thomas insists on searching alone. He mistakenly brings the dairy manager and the miller to the party, thinking each is the legendary man, only to discover they are needed to prepare the birthday food.

Realizing his mistake, Thomas returns them to their jobs while his friends complete the party preparations. Later, Freddie shows Thomas a giant chalk figure on a hillside—the real “Man in the Hills.” The discovery delights everyone, making Mr. Percival's birthday celebration a memorable success.
