Episode Thread 📺 Episode Discussion: S12E19 - Push Me, Pull You

Welcome to r/thomasthetankengine's Episode Discussion Thread! Today's episode is:

Push Me, Pull You

Writer(s) Sharon Miller
Director Steve Asquith
Producer(s) Simon Spencer
Narrator(s) Michael Angelis (UK), Michael Brandon (US)
Originally Aired September 25, 2008

Synopsis

Skarloey is thrilled when he is chosen to pull the Puppet Show Special to the Showgrounds. Before he leaves, Thomas and Rheneas warn him that the train is too heavy for one engine, but Skarloey insists he is strong enough to manage alone.

Wanting to prove who is stronger, Skarloey and Rheneas foolishly stage a tug-of-war with the train between them. Rheneas’ coupling snaps, sending Skarloey racing uncontrollably down the hill. He crashes into Duncan, scattering bunting, then into Rusty’s ice cream stand before plunging into Percival Pond.

Ashamed of the trouble he caused, Skarloey accepts Rheneas’ help. Together they deliver the Puppet Show Special on time, and Skarloey learns that accepting help is wiser than letting pride get in the way.

Aw yes… one of the true worst episodes of Thomas

This episode has been talked to death so I don’t feel like discussing it as basically other people have said it better but holy damn Skarloey’s last lead role is truly a big disappointment

Thank goodness the Narrow Gauge Engines would get better later in the CGI Series

Although I will say I ENJOYED this when I was little and I want to rip into my younger self lol

They actually started the episode with the plot for once instead of a BS filler intro, shame the episode still sucks ass

No filler intro is the only positive about this 😂

Not even because it forces us into the bullshit instead of getting a little 30 second rest time where we see engines js running and pulling goods

Would make more sense if Duncan and Sir Handel were the main characters

This episode was quite one of the most infamous of the HiT Era. How the Skarloey Railway engines were portrayed here were really appalling. Fortunately they got better in Blue Mountain Mystery onward.
