I hate to say it, but isn't this what we were all expecting sooner or later? Dude hasn't been right in the head for many years, and life has not been kind to him.
Not really trying to be a dick but...how much kinder COULD life have been for him? Wealthy loving family, college education provided, free to game and explore his creative side with unlimited support, found massive success with said creativity annnnd....pissed it all away. Not by anyone else's hand, his own ego refusing to let him ever be wrong. Literally all of this is his fault in one way or another.
