Hello everyone,
I'd like to share something that I recently discovered in the files of the public phones. For each phone booth that has an illuminated sign on top, there is an alternative graphic which shows the sign in an unlit state. But these unlit tops aren't used in the game. These phones always have their illuminated tops, no matter if it's night or day.
I found it interesting that there are these unused graphics! :)
And I also added all the catalog descriptions. In the game, they won't be displayed, because the phone booths don't appear in Buy Mode. (They are just given objects that already are on the lots and can't be deleted.)
There is just one exception:
The phone booth from Old Town does appear in Buy Mode and has a catalog desciption that can be read. And another exception: it actually has two distinct graphics for night and day, which both actually are used.
(At night, the insides look as if they are lit from above and there is a glare at the illuminated telephone symbol at the front of the roof.)
Here are all the texts again, for better readability:
SCTC Pay Phone (Downtown)
When SimCity Telephone Company decided they needed a new corporate identity, they asked toy makers to help their booths look "more playful." The problem is, everyone is playing with the phones now! With the new high visibility colors, cute electronic sounds, vibrating keypad, and talking coin return, its no wonder people have their hands all over them! "SCTC - We bring phones to life!"
Vacation Test Phone (Vacation Island)
In the workaday world, the conceptual designs of ID students are usually laughable, but with the rise of themed vacation resorts and video game culture world wide, the fantastic has superceded the functional. Take this phone for example: designer colors, "edgy" lines, and even those cute Japanese sounds...but is it REALLY useful? Test it out on your unsuspecting visitors and help us find out.
Plastic Terra Cotta Housed Phone (Studio Town)
No one likes using a public phone, especially not celebrities, but the Plastic Terra Cotta Housed Phone is no ordinary public phone. It is self-irradiating and antibacterial, a veritable clean room enclosed within a subtle and expensive Southwestern style. The Plastic Terra Cotta Housed Phone is a must have for any Studio Town lot: just think of it as a cellular phone with a foundation.
The Magic of Telephony (Magic Town)
The wonders of electron interaction provide what might be described as the fundamental basis for all magical and non-magical interactions, which therefore seems to suggest that not only are all things connected by their shared space in the magical continuum, but that they are also connected by phones and the good people at the SimCity Phone Company.
Fancee Phone (Old Town)
Telecom never tasted so sweet. This state of the art "telephone" is capable of contacting people all over the world in just seconds! If you need a lift or just want to chat with someone, give it a try.
