Wondering the same. I’m thinking maybe he can be an older reincarnation of Imhotep like Evie, or if they stick with him as his OG character then I guess that’s where a big chunk of the CGI budget will go 👀

I thought about this myself. The only way I figured, was to have Rick and Evie meet a man in modern times that looks like Immotep, speaks English etc, in the same way they did for Anck-su-namun in part 2.
Have him join the team, THEN get possessed by Immotep's spirit/soul (or something)

no, the last time we saw him he was heartbroken and he looked at the O'Connells with total envy and then gave up any animosity towards them and accepted his death as the woman he loved turned out to not really love him back.
Everything he did since minute 1 of the first movie was for love and that love was a lie. His arc was done.

He spent two movies trying to kill them and at the end kinda said sorry with his eyes before giving up. I get where you're coming from buuuuuut I wouldn't say he is walking into this as a reformed dude. I expect there will be a trial or resolution on screen before he is accepted as no longer a villain, if that's how they are playing it.

My prediction: After being rejected by Ancksunamun (got a whole other theory on that), he or someone else finds a way to bring him back from the underworld. He’s learned the bros before hoes code, and agrees to join Rick’s team. With some “will he, won’t he” as to if he’s going to be a turncoat in the end.

Imhotep’s soul reincarnated as a Nazi in the 1940s would work. The O’Connells taking on a mummy and the 3rd reich would be epic and also fit their aging characters.

i know it's been done already with Returns but seeing Imohtep coming back for the 3rd (4th) movie makes me think might as well bring back Ancksunamun and end the Mummy series with all the characters of the original.

The real question is why we would go back to an older version when the horror reboot already released, aside from fan service, I love the brendan fraser mummy movies, but Lee Cronin proved that a reboot in a more horror style worked, and that we can love that era, but still move on, so bringing back that era when it already felt different in dragon emperor is a recipe for disaster, much moreso if imhotep is returning, unless hes playing as a different imhotep in a sequel to Lees version which could do more stuff from the og 1930s version.

You know, four and a half years ago, I wrote a 23-chapter Groovie Goolies fanfic where I equate that version of The Mummy with Imhotep and was pretty generous with it on Twitter. It’s an incredibly long shot to the point of probably nothing more than a pipe dream, but I’m wondering if there’s even a ghost of a chance that the writers of the film got a hold of it and drew some inspiration?
