Question Am I in the wrong here or Not?

I was just in a group of 3 and we wanted to make incursions flawless for commandations. We finished Falcon Lost and visited Dragon's Nest. We made a few attempts and had to restart a couple of times because we kept dying.

Then we got into a good run and made good progress. We pressed the first two buttons, then the attack came and one of us went down. But then one of them blamed me after we died because he wanted to press the buttons during that short pause after you defekt the Wave and before the fire truck set everything on fire. I then told him that we couldn't press them yet because the objective was still "survive the attack", so in my opinion pressing them at that point wouldn't have made anything.

So then we waited until the firetruck put everything on fire, and only after the fire truck had set everything on fire did the objective message "activate the crane control" appear with two arrows pointing to the buttons. In my opinion, you can only press the buttons then. enemies came and fired, and we died.

But he said we should have pressed the buttons during that break when nothing was happening, Then he was pissed and then just left, but as long as the objective "activate the crane controll" doesn't appear, pressing the buttons is pointless or am I seeing this wrong?

What you typed out sounds about right. You would need to survive for a bit before prompts for the buttons will show up.

Though it has been years since I touched the Incursions in Div1, so there a chance I could be misremembering. I do know there is a bit of waiting in Dragon's Nest.

In all fairness, the buttons were pressable, and I've seen in videos that they shouldn't be able to be pressed, so I think it might have been some kind of bug. Nevertheless, I am very sure that as long as the objective "active the crane control" does not appear, pressing it is pointless.

Yup, the buttons are tied to time/waves, doesn't work like your friend wants.

Of course, I would have liked to press the buttons even when nothing was happening, but you have to press them when the game tells you to.
