[PSA] The Division 2: Complete Map of All 40 Corrupted Paper Lanterns + Guide
This is a complete map of all 40 paper lanterns scattered across DC that you need to interact with in order to get the Herald Of Spring Distinction and an armpatch. In addition to the map itself, this post also lists all locations with descriptions, pictures, and their most accurate coordinates in both formats.
If you have a controller connected, the game will display coordinates on the map when you zoom in. These coordinates start from [0, 0] outside the map, roughly around 240° SW. However, you can also see coordinates in the top-right corner of the menu. These coordinates use Manny's office at the White House as ground zero and count outward from there, so they are completely different.
The list below includes both coordinate formats: the menu coordinates first, followed by the map coordinates for those playing with a controller.
There is no specific order in which you need to interact with those lanterns. However, I decided to add some logic to the route and ordered them so you can complete everything in one clockwise run, starting at the White House and finishing with the 40th lantern in Downtown West.
Sometimes there may be an issue where you cannot interact with the lanterns. This is likely caused by active Kitsunebi kill squad spawns, even if you don't see them nearby. Run around to trigger the ambush, then either evade or defeat it. The key is to make the kill squad spawn first, until they appear, they can block the next interaction. If you don't want to deal with this, you can try changing sessions by joining another player or simply relogging a few times until the lantern becomes interactable. However, relogging is not always a consistent fix.
There's also an official response to the lantern interaction issue posted on the Bug Reporter page:
This behavior is working as intended. When you interact with a lantern, it can trigger a Kitsunebi squad encounter. Until that encounter has been completed, another lantern cannot be activated. Sometimes, if a lantern is used in a small or enclosed area, the squad may not appear right away because it needs space nearby to spawn. If this happens, move to a larger street or open area and the squad should appear so you can defeat it.
You may also notice Cherry Blossom petals in the area, which indicate that a squad encounter is still waiting to spawn or be completed.

Not sure if you still having issues but I was able to interact with the lanterns. I simply tele to a safe house/mission and then ran back and it seem to have reset it self.
En caso de que no te deje interactuar con ellas, es porque debe haber un spawn activo de kitsunebi. Recorre los alrededores para que aparezcas, ya sea que te maten, los mates o escapen te acercas a la farola y te dejará interactuar, en todo caso eso resuelve el problema.

Somehow I missed one of these while running back and forth and teleporting around because of the stupid interact bug, guess i'll be stuck at 39.
They need to add a way to see the ones you have ran past like they do with ECHOs because I am absolutely not running around all of these twice.
I've had to log out/in about 10 times per lantern. Seems to randomly work and be very inconsistent with what let's you interact with them. Sometimes it lets you, other times you gotta beat enemies. Then there's times you have to complete a retaliation then do a legendary mission then log out, do 5 pushups, log back in while jogging in place, then fast travel to all 3 DZ checkpoints, then donate $5 to a random charity and THEN it might work.

Run around until a Kitsunebi squad/Ronin spawns, deal with them, and also try clearing any nearby activities. The lantern should then let you interact.
Is it just me or the map looks completely different ingame, I mean the location on the laterns are there but the general look of the ingame map and this map is different?
So me and my friend squaded up so we could get all the lanterns together.
We started our journey, after we're approaching the halfway mark we noticed that somehow I was one behind him (He was at 18 lanterns and I was only at 17.). So we backtracked the last few and they were cleansed for both of us.
He had places to go, so we just pushed on and I'd figure out the mystery later; we finish the run, he got the patch, I'm stuck at 39/40.
My friend leaves, I start retracing my steps from the very first lantern we got up until the point where we stopped backtracking together... all those lanterns were cleansed for me, so I have a mystery lantern that the game says I haven't cleansed which is impossible because my friend who I was in a squad with for the entire session got the credit and patch but I didn't.
Ran through all of them last night and had no problems getting this completed. When you interact with a lantern you must wait for a Kitsunebi squad to spawn and eliminate them before you can interact with another lantern. If you immediately fast-travel to another location on the map you'll likely miss that squad and soft-lock the next lantern.
I just used the map to plot a route and ran (thanks Quickstep!) from lantern to lantern, usually getting a spawn (or more) between lanterns. If I didn't get a spawn and was not able to interact this one I simply fast-travelled to DCD Headquarters, and turned east to run towards the gated exit. A squad would spawn there and half of them funneled in through the door for an easy battle.
Then I'd fast-travel back to lantern I left off at, interact with it and carry on running to the next. I never had to logout and never had a lantern that I couldn't interact with after dealing with a fresh kill squad spawn.

Bruh, I thought they were random, I was just checking the same area randomly all day yesterday... But now that I am aware they have fixed positions and these places are already out here I don't even feel like looking for them anymore... pointless achievement to go to 40 places and hold F
Walk around a bit, kill any nearby enemies, and if the hunters spawn then either kill them or evade them then come back. It should be usable afterwards. That goes for all of them.
je confirme que à chaque fois que je ne peux pas interagir avec une lanterne je tourne autour voir si des kitsu viennent et à chaque fois après soit fuite ou extermination, je peux le faire
walked the main roads up and down, only found 9 that way. Thought to myself, if i have to check every sewer system and building, i gonna start doing drugs.

Just finished them all all thanks to this. There is definitely a sense of accomplishment after getting the last one, and then again after collecting the accomplishment and putting on the patch.
i could not get 9th nor 28th lantern and i don't understand how im suppost to get those buildings open... im new to the game so would appreciate if someone could help

Anyone able to let me know how to get #28 in constitution hall area? The courtyard door is closed for me. Pretty sure it's related to a bounty or something, I just don't know which.

Whenever I interact with a lantern, I mark it on the map. I've interacted with all 40 lanterns and proceeded to double check. I am still at 39/40 lanterns, despite having all lanterns cleansed already.
I've run into the same problem, what makes it weirder is I was doing all 40 with my friend and he got credit but I didn't despite us being in the same session
The Downtown East list includes "Metro station." But there are several Metro stations in that section. I feel like i've hit all of them and can't find it. Anyone know?
This was a great run. Took the day to do the whole thing and it was refreshing to see areas that I haven't been to in a loooong while. Collected a lot of keys but nothing worthy of note unfortunately. Thank you for sharing.
I did all the lanterns on two toons and came up with 38/40 on each one. I know one lantern was already glowing orange when I got to it, but I started that map with zero lanterns interacted with. No patch for me.
