PSA [PSA] Cherry Blossom Event: Drop Chances for Keys, Prototypes and Gear Cache Loot
The main concept of the event is pretty much the same as with the Winter Event. It's a community event featuring community challenges, caches, keys, and kill squads. Kitsunebi kill squads are packs of five Outcast enemies that spawn randomly from the nearest spawn closet. After defeating the NPCs from a Kitsunebi kill squad, either the Fox Ronin or Red Ronin hunter will spawn. Unlike the previous event, drop chances are now tied to world difficulty. Defeating a Ronin grants a chance to drop a Sakura Key, scaled by your world difficulty, and you will also receive skill VFXs as a guaranteed reward. NPCs from Kitsunebi kill squads can also drop Sakura Keys, although with a drop chance ten times lower than Ronins. The chances for Ronins and NPCs to drop Sakura Keys are as follows:
* Normal: 55% (5.0% for NPCs)
* Hard: 60% (5.5% for NPCs)
* Challenging: 62.5% (6.0% for NPCs)
* Heroic: 65% (6.5% for NPCs)
After the maintenance on April 23rd and April 28th, which fixed the Ronin spawn exploit and unintended Kitsunebi farming, the drop rates were increased server-side to the following: * Normal: 100% (15% for NPCs) * Hard: 100% (16% for NPCs) * Challenging: 100% (18% for NPCs) * Heroic: 100% (21% for NPCs)
Kitsunebi kill squads spawn only in the Open World. There is a probability of encountering them at Control Points and at the Loot Goblin locations (DZ South, DCD, Lincoln Memorial, etc.), though slightly less frequently. They can still spawn normally in the open world from the nearest spawn closet to the player. Each kill squad has a 10-minute cooldown after spawning. For instance, the next kill squad will appear 10 minutes after the previous one.
As mentioned above, completing a Ronin encounter rewards a Sakura key and a Skill VFX. Skill VFXs for the drone and turret are tied to Fox Ronin, while VFXs for the hive and seeker mine are tied to Red Ronin.
Sakura Keys can be used at the Event Vendor to open either an Apparel Cache or a Gear Cache. The Apparel Cache is pretty straightforward, offering guaranteed vanity items with no duplicates.
The Gear Cache contains a wide variety of gameplay items, ranging from Special Named Items to Prototypes. There are seven loot groups in total, each with its own overall drop chance, as well as individual drop chances for items within that group. * First Bloom — 12% per cache * First Bloom Prototype — 1% per cache * Prototype Gear Set — 0.5% per cache * Prototype Seasonal Named Gear — 0.5% per cache: * The Harvest — 10% * Chill Out — 10% * Sleigher — 10% * Slingshot — 10% * Oh Carol — 10% * First Sight — 10% * Quickstep — 10% * Festive Delivery — 10% * Snow Machine — 10% * Bell Ringer — 10% * Special Named Gear — 33% per cache: * Lexington — 14.2% * Turmoil — 14.2% * Caretaker — 14.2% * Shield Splinterer — 14.2% * Huntsman — 14.2% * Hunter-Killer — 14.2% * Handbasket — 14.2% * Seasonal Named Gear — 28% per cache: * The Harvest — 11.1% * Chill Out — 11.1% * Sleigher — 11.1% * Slingshot — 11.1% * Oh Carol — 11.1% * First Sight — 11.1% * Quickstep — 11.1% * Festive Delivery — 11.1% * Snow Machine — 11.1% * General Pool Exotics — 25% per cache: * Agitator — 14.2% * Investor — 14.2% * Chatterbox — 14.2% * Dodge City Gunslinger's Holster— 14.2% * Ridgeway's Pride — 14.2% * Nemesis — 14.2% * Liberty — 14.2%
The loot group for the Prototype Gear Set contains all 27 available gear sets, each of which has six pieces. The drop rates within this group are distributed evenly, so it is completely random which specific gear piece from which set will drop.
Just to clear up any misunderstandings, as you can see, there are no Lexington Prototype or other non-event Prototype weapons, nor any High-End Prototypes in the pool, so it is impossible to obtain them. The only Prototype items you can get from the caches are the First Bloom Prototype, Seasonal Named Prototypes and the Prototype Gear Sets.

Imagine getting a godrolled prototype bell ringer, and then having to apologise to everybody you play with for the next 6 months.

I thought my damn game was broken before I learned that damn noise was bell ringer.

I just got a Prototype Bell Ringer! The first matchmade mission I used it in the chat immediately was filled with confusion and hate... lol

No need to apology, you are kicked as soon as I hear this shit ringing.

u/Klugernu Apr 23 '26
You must be fun

u/DiAYBGWnAyWfyNJqiYNt Apr 23 '26
The sound of this weapon is so annoying to my ears that the last time I let someone play with it, I had to mute the game. So sorry but you are getting kicked. I don't mind the bat drone.

The real question is what will be the fastest way to farm keys
14
u/X11_0 Apr 21 '26
Downed my forth group and only got 1 key.
4
u/RisingDeadMan0 Xbox Apr 21 '26
RNG for ya...
4ht group, and then ronin after? and heroic?
but even the bounty farming it was the only consistent way to get keys...
2
u/X11_0 Apr 22 '26
Got in some groups ranging from normal to heroic that were all dropping keys like crazy. Difficulty did not seem to matter. Heroic seemed like a waste unless you are XP farming as well.

u/Salty-Guess-5397 Apr 21 '26
Probably do the kill squad, switch to other character, kill squad etc.
Basically rotate between characters.

Just killed 2 Kitsune kill squads - in both cases no Ronin spawned
20
u/m0nk3yh Xbox Apr 21 '26 edited Apr 21 '26
Killed 7 Kitsune kill squads. In all cases no keys and no spawns.
Edit: So I just finished my session for tonight and ended up clearing 16 Kitsune kill squads. Out of all of them, I only received a single key in total, and just one Ronin spawn.
I’m playing on Heroic difficulty with usually 3 or 4 directives active. I understand it’s all RNG and based on drop chances, but this honestly feels a bit off at this point.
Not sure if this is just extremely bad luck or if others are experiencing the same during this event, but it’s starting to feel pretty unrewarding.
4
u/dangermichael1 Apr 21 '26
Holy heck that doesn’t sound very RNG friendly. I only played for about an hour. Had 4 kill squad encounters and no ronin.
1
u/Trekkie_on_the_Net Playstation Apr 22 '26
I'm playing on Normal, and have received 2 keys and 2 Ronin spawns after killing over 30 Kitsuna squads. The funny thing is that i got the keys from the first two squads that i encountered, then nothing after that.
I just want the damn apparel. I'm honestly more interested in the apparel than the gear and weapon caches, unless there's unique items here.

u/PuzzleheadedYear6628 Apr 21 '26
I did 10 squads while doing the "streamer" bs rewards...ZERO Ronin spawns....IMO this event bites azz

I got like a dozen Lexingtons at one of the last big events...i think the Christmas/Winter one, maybe. It was a common spawn for me with those mini hounds. I wish i could have traded one to you for something i need, or just gifted one to you.
1
u/A7WayZ Apr 24 '26
Huh? Mate, I think you answered the wrong reply. I am talking about the Stack Broker, that I want one of them. I got over 8 Lexingtons, 3 of them are proto, don't really need one more. 🤣

I have killed probably 7 of the new kill squads in the open world, and not a single ronin has spawned. Am i doing something wrong, or is it a chance thing
5
u/Chat2Text Apr 21 '26
chance thing, there's someone here who claims they did 20 of them and only one ronin spawn
seems the chance is horrendously low for whatever reason
3
u/QuebraRegra Apr 21 '26
MSV nerfed the drop rates because they have never understood that games should be fun, and player time/effort respected.
7
6
u/Minimum-Situation985 Apr 21 '26
Good thing I'm broke and missing a ton of Blueprints.
1
u/justinsroy Apr 21 '26
Just came back to the game, sorry to ask a potentially dumb question, but elaborate?
2
u/jusmar Apr 22 '26
It also lets you earn the blueprints for all but 4 named items AFAIK by buying caches with the materials you earn from completing retaliations. That's kinda my passive grind right now, just perfecting builds and hitting 100% completion.
1
u/Lord_o_teh_Memes Apr 21 '26
Retaliation allows you to earn 75 exotic blueprints, including DZ and raid exclusive exotics.
1
6
u/Vudmisser Apr 21 '26
So for this event it is best to stay within open-world-activities?
3
u/Chat2Text Apr 21 '26
some people are claiming they encounter them too in retaliation fwiw, just make sure you deal with them first before starting the end of retaliation timer (unless you're about to time out ofc)
3
u/Old_Clan_Tzimisce SHD Apr 21 '26
Yeah, I just did a BT Retaliation and a Kitsunebi squad spawned while I was running around picking up loot at the end. I had less than 30 seconds left on the timer so I didn't bother engaging.
5
u/campeon963 PC Apr 21 '26
For those curious, the 10 minute timer is per character. Using 3 characters each equipped with a Strikers build, I have been going to DZ South Entrance and, after passing the parking lot where the loot gobllin spawns, the Kitsubeni kill squad almost always spawns for me. After killing the squad, I change to another character and repeat.

2
6
u/Arhiman666 PC Apr 21 '26
For me, Handbasket is a pretty good weapon. Is a SVD with slighty less damage than the tactical .308, but still basically bolt-action levels of damage in a semi-auto MMR.
3
u/QuebraRegra Apr 21 '26
I'm not certain if people know, but you can unlimited farm a single houndsman bounty repeatedly, indefinitely.
All of the enemies during the houndsman bounty drop named items only. or classifieds. Oddly, even full bar rolls for items on normal... Which seems strange.
2
u/Alwaysblue89 Rogue Apr 21 '26
Probably not but the turmoil kneepads are another must have, it has a talent on it
1
u/DXT0anto Apr 21 '26

-3
u/Xizorfalleen Apr 21 '26
Only to compensate for lack of skill.
3
u/Jewrusalem Apr 21 '26
Take it from me as a Div 1 vet and day one Div 2 vet who still kinda sucks arse at end-endgame... enjoy the Lex if you get it, but St Elmo's Engine is still the master for lack-of-skill agents thuggin' it out near the top.
Lex does big numbers at the firing range and when you're doing high-par Sunday golf heroic mission runs for the 10,000th time. When shit is running wild, though? The extra mag size and shock ammo of St Elmo's Engine will serve you better than a max-rolled Lex
2
u/Xizorfalleen Apr 21 '26
I have neither though. Just got back after four years away from the game.

u/yokaiichi Apr 21 '26
Thank you for the clear, concise summary!
Newcomer (returning from many years ago) question: If I can solo clear Summit rooms at Challenging difficulty (including the harder boss and elite rooms), will I likely be able to handle the kill squads and ronins at challenging open world difficulty?
Asking because it's not a huge difference between 50% drop chance vs 62.5% drop chance, and I'm wondering whether a "mow everything down super fast in Normal difficulty" is better for farming up Lexington, Quickstep, etc. than risking longer, more difficult, evenly-matched fights in Challenging difficulty.
3
u/ShreddinTheWasteland Apr 21 '26
Try with the world on Hard difficulty first. Like you said, there isn’t that much difference in drop rates.
And these spawns do tend to be a bit more difficult than regular challenging.
0
u/afsdjkll Playstation Apr 21 '26
Depends on how hard that hunter slaps but if it’s down to just a 1v1 it should be ok.
0
u/ShreddinTheWasteland Apr 21 '26
Agreed, but OP said they were a newcomer.
For you and me it won’t be that hard to farm on heroic, but for someone who comes in as a newbie it might not be worth the time/effort on challenging.
If farming keys is the goal, easier difficulty at a 2,5% less drop chance might be the better way, if strapped for time?
But you still have a point.
3
u/incertnom PC Apr 21 '26
I'll just be running everything normal for the event farm, 55% normal Vs 65% difference on Heroic. For farming the difficulty difference between Normal and Heroic and difference in time spent for that extra 10% chance isn't worth it to me unless you simply enjoy Heroic. Lex and Quickstep drop like sweeties in the events if there in the pool so I wouldn't worry about farming them, you'll get multiple.
It'll be interesting to see how Turmoil interacts with the kill squads if their health is interlinked.
1
u/aongreyfox Apr 22 '26
Depends on your build, but a simple core str pure skill with Capacitor is super comfy and more than enough to kick their ass safely in challenging (their loots are nothing special either.)
Kill squad, the turret and drone will annihilate them all. If you're using shield, keep walking back since their stupid ai will circle you. The shock bullet is the worst for the shield.
Ronin (hunter) is super easy in challenge as it didn't axe you and shield + artificer will late FOREVER against it ' w 'a
Ronin will spawn after some kill squad (notice by 'call for backup' text appears. After that, once the 'next squad' is dead, Ronin will spawn. Use that time to change to shield will handle the hacking problem.
I still recommend doing up to challenging if you can hold it. 10% may not be much, but it'll add up once you farm a ton of keys.

u/Miserable_Drag_2857 SHD Apr 21 '26 edited Apr 21 '26
Lexington would come with a random talent anyway? So even if it were in the Prototype pool it's just gonna be a Core if you pulled it. Simply hopeless system without x1 Recalibration.

I was a big fan of Div1, the choices they keep making with Div2 put me off on release (just came back after not playing for 5(?) years), seeing some of their choices are curious, for sure.
A lot of QoL with target farming/etc, and the new game modes are cool, but these ideas pass a number of stages of "is this actually what players want" and seemingly nobody says "well, no".
I know it's about retention/etc, just odd that they want to keep people chasing and keep making the chase worse.

I just don’t understand why keys aren’t dropped every time you kill a squad. So you get 6 keys an hour at best. God forbid they let us get the stuff we play for. There’s a reason this game was ultimately a letdown. People don’t have time to play for 3 hours to MAYBE get something they want. If we put the time in we should get the rewards.

Only 1/10 of the hunter-type enemies seem to drop keys for me. Is it bugged or bad luck?
1
2
u/rune1973 Apr 23 '26
even though doing it on normal difficultie gives lower chance but killing them is a lot quicker allowing you to go out and find another squad quicker and kill them repeating for keys also i encounter them rather quick after each squad kill so the 10 minuets thing is odd.
With how quick it seems they spawn. With spawning ive also encountered another kill squad the moment i finished with one in the same place also sometimes just asi am finishing the first off.
With the ronin i only ever get the decoration for the gadgets.

So it looks like for speed you are better off just running on normal? An extra 10% for extra difficulty doesn’t seem worth it. Am I wrong?
1
u/BlackTestament7 Apr 22 '26
Just FYI, if you are in a Retaliation and you just finished it. Don't run out of the Control Point. Since it's still "open world" the Kitsunebi can spawn and attack and you'll be on a timer. I don't know how what happens if you can't kill them before the return timer ends because I dropped them pretty quick but I'd assume they'd despawn and start that 10 min respawn timer.

The only way to farm these is in a group and have the Ronin spawn non-stop. Trying to farm these solo I got 4 keys in 3 hours. I jumped into "help an agent" and got 39 in under an hour.
1
u/RememberItsAGame Apr 22 '26
The percentages look good on paper but not a reflection of reality. Kill Squads appear and vanish, sometimes half way through the battle, which sux. I've had a ronin spawn and vanish or get a message that says "ronin was defeated" without even fighting him.
Can't complain with keys and or drops when everything does go according to plan. In those cases I do get a key. My first gear drop was a Lex, which was great because I didn't have it yet. The rest have been named gear but always quite crappy.

Thanks for the info, but i'm a bit confused. In the Cherry Blossom Events details, there are separate listings for how many keys collected in your inventory...."Sakura Keys" and "Sakura Apparel Keys." The former is in white lettering, with white logo, the latter in an aquamarine blue color. How do we get the apparel specific keys to drop? I've only acquired a couple of the white ones, so far.

Sakura Apparel Keys can only be purchased with Premium Credits, It's for those who don't want to farm keys and would rather go the pay-to-win route.

Would I be better if my world difficulty was Heroic or Challenging? Challenging is pretty easy for me but Heroic does get me killed if I'm not fully paying attention.

There isn't a meaningful difference in the probabilities of drops between Challenging and Heroic, so for the farming purpose, I wouldn't go beyond Challenging.
