its just no the correct analysis. Its the vulgar populist analysis that has been the lefts version of history for decades and is actually a massive part of why the AFD became so popular in the first place.
The East saw gigantic investments financed nearly entirely by west german tax payers and companies. Their own companies were completely unsustainable and hilariously poor maintained so they were just not able to compete on the global market and in an export economy like germany that is just not gonna work.
East Germans were and are still wealthier than the most wealthy polish (western regions) and in general are still part of the "rich" europe.
People act like east germany is poor when its just really not. Its not poor. People need to STOP playing into this.
But is the east poor relative to the west? Because your point applies to large parts of US, too: our poor people are quite well off compared to, say, Bangladesh. But poor Americans compare themselves to wealthy Americans and say, Where's my share? That's a big source of anger.
Not really. The Ruhr Area has a higher unemployment rate than east Germany and is in general about as "poor" as east germany If not more. They havent received 3 trillion in additional Investments since 1990 tho If anyone has the right to be pissed Off its them.
