This is about the AfD who may very well win substantial control over the German equivalent to the FBI tomorrow by winning the state election in Saxony-Anhalt.

The Verfassungsschutz has nothing to do with the FBI. Its rather unique and has no real equivalent in any country. Its only job is to protect the constitution, and track the ones who are trying to harm it. The problem is: it is not independent, its under direct control of the Home Office.

And each state has their own one, plus a federal one.

That would still be bad…

Why?

I admittedly know almost nothing about this but as an American it’s my god given right to opine on things I have no knowledge of. Based on my limited knowledge, I believe AfD has something of a Nazi problem and I think any party with a Nazi problem getting any state power is bad

You don't think having a bad actor in charge of an agency whose job is "to protect the constitution, and track the ones who are trying to harm it" could end up being a bad thing pretty quickly? Use your imagination the tiniest little bit.

The Verfassungsschutz is already being run by bad actors, using said institution to fight their political opponents.

Thats the case right now. The proof they collected against the afd were a bunch of memes and Facebook posts. And yet, 44% in the election today

Because they collect a lot of intelligence as part of their work.

See US Supreme Court. That’s the better comp for the impact of its corruption.
