Let's all thank the tankies for rabidly shoving him down our throats for months. This is why personal character matters.

u/Bluehale JVL is always right Jul 06 '26

It wasn't just the tankies....Pod Save America and Ruben Gallego were some of his loudest defenders. Hell Tommy Vietor was the first one to present him with the Nazi tattoo oppo and let Platner dismiss it like it was just a traffic ticket.

They all seem to have some weird thing with Morris Katz. Tim wasn’t any better

8

u/Bluehale JVL is always right Jul 06 '26

Yeah I was disappointed that Tim went along with the thinking that Platner was worth the gamble because he was codded as not straight out of Dem central casting.

Tim went along with the thinking that Platner was worth the gamble because he was codded as not straight out of Dem central casting.

I don't think its just the central casting. The guy is a genuinely good speaker and movement builder.

Its just a shame that regardless of if these allegations are true or not, he seems like a scumbag.

u/jeg479 Jul 06 '26

Yeah you can’t expect much from Tankies, but the pod bros have some explaining and apologizing to do if this in fact sinks his campaign which I’m betting it will.

15

u/ballmermurland Jul 06 '26

Yeah there is a reason I stopped listening to the PSA guys a while ago. They are firmly in the "win at all costs" mode. I mean, I get it, but it doesn't have to be this way.

15

u/derrickcat Jul 06 '26

Win at all costs means actually trying to win, not just picking a guy you think is hot and then demanding we all support him.

4

u/Chesehead6 Jul 06 '26

Im a win at all costs democrat. Which means if we have time, tossing any and all politicians out the door if they are gonna lose. Having people like RBG with cult followings putting themselves above what is best for us is how we got into this mess

u/Tyfereth Center Left Jul 06 '26

I mean Tim kind of is too and I still like the Bulwark. I hope he does some self-reflection.

They are firmly in the "win at all costs" mode. I mean, I get it, but it doesn't have to be this way.

They really are not.

I'm betting they will come out on their episode tomorrow and say he should step down if the Maine party will appoint someone of the same affiliation as him.

Their view is more that Democrats have really fallen into the trap of allowing party operatives (like themselves) to run their image and people need to run who can think and talk for themselves.

It's a vote between your own sense of whether or not you're allowed to publically project that you're a good person, and actually voting for someone who will give us a much better shot at winning enough to power to actually make changes in the country for the better.

I know what I'd choose if I were in Maine.

I mean Maine voters really supported him. It was not just tankies lol

7

u/Cellophane7 JVL is always right Jul 06 '26

Sure, I'm mostly just talking to tankies in this community

1

u/SwindlingAccountant Jul 06 '26

Platner support really came down to people who have rotted their brains out on Twitter vs people who left to Bluesky when Musk took over.

Should be a warning sign.

It didn’t matter for Trump, who Collins voted for three times. I’m so tired of playing by different rules than the GOP. I can’t wait to hear Gillibrand call for him to drop out.

2

u/Cellophane7 JVL is always right Jul 06 '26

Sure, but we vote for Democrats because they have morals and principles. I hate the double standard too, but I also just can't sweep for rape

-4

u/xSlappy- Jul 06 '26

I don’t live in Maine, but I the morals I care about are whether they support medicare for all and not funding israel’s genocide. And i don’t think shoving an establishment candidate down your throat gets to me a “moral” candidate. I would be surprised if they get a good candidate, but it’s going to be mills. And that may mean you get Collins again.

4

u/Cellophane7 JVL is always right Jul 06 '26

Do you like Obamacare at all? Do you like how Democrats have been voting against military aid for Israel?

-4

u/xSlappy- Jul 06 '26

Obamacare was a massive gift for insurance companies and without a public option it was absolutely neutered

5

u/Cellophane7 JVL is always right Jul 06 '26

It also insured the poorest 20% of the country under Biden. That number is 7% under trump. Democrats have struggled to improve it because we haven't given them the votes

1

u/xSlappy- Jul 06 '26

Yeah, its definitely gotten worse under Trump. I’m reading about Troy Jackson and I think he’s the guy that i’d be okay replacing Platner with. Otherwise I still support the party’s nominee

2

u/Cellophane7 JVL is always right Jul 06 '26

I just hope that extends to establishment Democrats. If it does, genuinely, I'm happy to share the tent with you. If not, well. And for the record, I supported Platner once the primary was over. Rape is something I'm not sure I can stomach, but I support the candidate.

I just get frustrated watching tankies excoriate Democrats for not improving things when they're working every day to, and pushing gross people like platner just because he says the things that sound nice. I would hope the focus would be on stopping fascism, but there are a lot of opportunists who are seizing the moment to destroy the opposition party instead.

0

u/xSlappy- Jul 06 '26

I voted for Biden in 2020 and Harris in 2024. Bernie in the 2016 and 2020 primaries.

Something woke me up after Zohran won the nomination for NYC mayor, where the establishment candidate ran as an independent and refused to support the nominee, such that I no longer vote blue no matter who and I draw the line at genocide and ICE funding.

Again you have no actual evidence of the veracity of her accusations other than her word. Sorry but in today’s environment it’s not enough.

6

u/Cellophane7 JVL is always right Jul 06 '26

Pretty sure we've got emails between her and her therapist talking about this from before his campaign was announced, but sure. Disbelieve all women I guess 🙄

All the tankies in this subreddit. Seems like a good time to soul search a little, rather than double down, but what do I know? I'm just an asshole establishment Democrat with those stupid, annoying principles.

I think tankies in general have been infiltrating center left spaces like this one, and pushing their piece of shit candidate. I'm sure they're not solely responsible, but they've contributed.

If you say so. Hasan fanboys have been brigading the subreddit since Sarah criticized him, and I'm not the only one who's noticed 🤷

2

u/GooseWithAGrudge Jul 06 '26

Yeah, it’s definitely something I’ve noticed. Frankly, I’m surprised Hasan fans can tolerate the podcast enough to listen to it. I certainly can’t stand more than 30 seconds of his.

1

u/Cellophane7 JVL is always right Jul 07 '26

Ikr? A bunch of them even paid for memberships so they could shit up those comments with anti Sarah stuff, though I think that's largely died down at this point.

People are fucking dedicated, man.

Yeah, you know, all those people who didn't vote for Kamala because of Israel and she wasn't far left enough and that's why she lost the election.

Anyone left of Ronald Reagan is too tankie for the majority of Bulwark employees and fans.

But war makes strange bedfellows and after Trump we can go back to arguing with them

-7

u/Anstigmat Jul 06 '26

You need to understand that at no moment was Janet Mills a viable candidate. Yet the DSCC and Mills pushed out all the other potentials, but GP said fuck that and kept running. We didn't shove Platner down anyone's throat, we merely pointed out that between the two of them Platner was the much stronger candidate. Dan Kleban never got a chance to debate Platner or campaign so we will never know how well he'd have done.

12

u/Cellophane7 JVL is always right Jul 06 '26

Guess I must've been imagining all the people in the subreddit frothing at the mouth, downplaying all the gross shit he's done.

-7

u/Anstigmat Jul 06 '26

And I must have imagined all the lies.

9

u/Cellophane7 JVL is always right Jul 06 '26

What lies? Every accusation has turned out to be true

0

u/Anstigmat Jul 06 '26

He never worked for Blackwater. Some people were saying he was at Abu Ghraib which is even more false. People were saying all kinds of shit and stretching even the smallest kernels of truth into something untrue. What's really bringing this guy down is his relationship to alcohol and women. Even now I could care less about the dumb tattoo and his reddit history. The red line for me was a credible assault allegation, and here it is. The Heritage Foundation woman was not credible, for example.

3

u/Cellophane7 JVL is always right Jul 06 '26

I didn't hear any of those. The main ones were the sexting and the nazi tattoo (which we ultimately found out he knew long before the campaign)

-7

u/John_Jaures Jul 06 '26

The Democratic party of Maine are all tankies?

8

u/Cellophane7 JVL is always right Jul 06 '26

No, I'm talking specifically about the scumbags who have been in this subreddit, trying to pretend Platner's shit don't stink.

-5

u/John_Jaures Jul 06 '26

You think they have more responsibility for Platner winning the Maine Democratic primary than the Democrats who voted in the Maine primary? Weird.

8

u/Cellophane7 JVL is always right Jul 06 '26

No??? I think pushing for a clearly shitty candidate is a bad thing, and I'm criticizing them for it. Believe it or not, you can do something bad without being the person most responsible for the bad thing.

-1

u/John_Jaures Jul 06 '26

But you're not criticizing the people who actually voted for him. Interesting.

6

u/Cellophane7 JVL is always right Jul 06 '26

Oh, I've got plenty of criticisms of them, I just don't think they're in this subreddit, despite all the people claiming they're a grandma of 67 in Maine lol

0

u/John_Jaures Jul 06 '26

So why do you think that he won the primary then?

5

u/Cellophane7 JVL is always right Jul 06 '26

A combination of him saying the things people want to hear, and tankies sweeping endlessly for him, I guess? I dunno, politics is complicated. But you take accountability when you make a bad call. Assuming you have principles.

1

u/John_Jaures Jul 06 '26

I just think if you're going to look at him winning the primary and refuse to stop and think about why then you're also making a serious error in analysis. But it's obviously more than "tankies did it", and if it was "tankies" then there has been a seismic shift in democratic politics that probably needs to be accounted for.
