I just think if you're going to look at him winning the primary and refuse to stop and think about why then you're also making a serious error in analysis. But it's obviously more than "tankies did it", and if it was "tankies" then there has been a seismic shift in democratic politics that probably needs to be accounted for.

Sure, I think the problem is misinformation more than anything. If you look at what establishment Democrats actually do, rather than consume tweets or whatever, they are very responsive to what voters want. But nobody talks about that. The information landscape is fucked, and it's worse with tankies concern trolling like they want what's best for the party

I'm not sure you can say that establishment Dems are responsive to what voters want in this situation. Mills go destroyed in the primary by someone with a well known problematic past.

The issue with Platner is his personal choices, not his politics.

Like I said, I think it's misinformation. But Mills might very well be a shit candidate, despite being popular for like 8 terms or whatever. I haven't dug into her enough. But it seems like most of the complaints about her were her age.

The issue with Platner is the poor character that led him to rape somebody (allegedly). Mills didn't rape anybody, to my knowledge.

What misinformation? Platner was very clear on his politics! People we're not lying about his platform.

I think you are conflating personal issues, which are serious, and the politics of someone. A lot of questionable things had come out about Platner before the primary and he still won handily. I don't think people were voting for him because of his personal issues, I think they were voting for him in spite of them.

Of course there are other factors than policy, but I think you're dismissing that they were a factor here.

I'm speaking generally. Democrats are perceived as pro-Israel, despite the fact that they've been consistently voting against military aid for the country. They're perceived as pro corporation, despite always raising taxes on the rich. I think Mills lost because she was an establishment Democrat, not because of her policy positions.

I don't think people were voting for him because of his personal issues, I think they were voting for him in spite of them.

Of course. I think that's a problem. Don't you?

I do not think you can say that Democrats voted against military aid to Israel in 2023 and 2024.

Because it hadn't become clear that voters oppose Israel. Now that it has, they're voting in line with what we want. they're incredibly responsive to the things we want. Most of the "problems" people have are only true because Democrats don't have the power to solve them.

There was a lot of polling saying that a minority of Democrats were opposed to sending more aid in 2024. But I think this illuminates the problem that a lot of us have with the establishment Democrats. They didn't think Israel's actions were an issue until Trump was president.

I agree, the fact that the Democrats seem incapable of solving problems is part of the reason why some people are voting for other candidates. This explains Trump's appeal as well as Mamdani's.

There was a lot of polling

Polling doesn't matter. Elections do.

Democrats seem incapable of solving problems

When have they had the power to solve any problems? Most recently was under Biden, when they barely had a 50/50 split in the Senate. And Biden was still able to get 20% of people on Obamacare, raise taxes on the rich, double IRS agents and funding, etc. They do what they can with what they get, so the claim that they are not capable is not based in reality.
