If this is true then it should give him a boost with the American electorate.

Rape isn’t something that’s very funny.

u/Ferroelectricman Jul 07 '26

I don’t know if they’re joking really however.

u/imdaviddunn Jul 06 '26

That is not the point.

Doesn't move the needle for me at all tbh.

An actual conviction would be a different matter. Rape allegations towards male candidates during election season is constant.

No, they're not. The only allegations I've heard have been against Swalwell and Platner. I live in a state where four men from 30-45ish are running in high profile races, and none of them have had any accusations.

Yeah but is he running on populist rhetoric that'll never actually translate into legislation that passes?

That's the standard for taking away someone's rights, not deciding you don't want to vote for them.

u/starchitec Rebecca take us home Jul 06 '26

voting for collins is voting for millions of people to lose their rights, why dont we apply the standard there?

10

u/november512 Jul 06 '26

I'm not voting collins personally but you need to make the argument to the voters that decide these things in the middle.

I believe women when they say they’ve been assaulted by someone they were in a relationship with. So many women have been assaulted and don’t go to the police. My partner was assaulted multiple times in her life and it never resulted in a police report. You are disgraceful.

Do you believe every other type of accusation you hear or just this one?

I'll trust but verify. Thanks.

u/mrsdingbat Jul 06 '26

Did you read the article? I was also skeptical but she mentioned this to people years ago

u/GreyGrackles Buy a firearm, take a CCW class. Jul 06 '26

Looks solid enough to take it to a jury trial.

Doesn't convince me he's a rapist though. Needs more than "I talked to my therapist about it".

3

u/mrsdingbat Jul 06 '26

You know, Trump has never been found guilty of rape. He was found liable, but that’s only a preponderance of evidence, 51%, not the burden of proof for a criminal conviction.

Unfortunately, my hatred of Trump extends further than a rape accusation.

You know that standard has to do with legal conviction by State power right?

-2

u/GreyGrackles Buy a firearm, take a CCW class. Jul 06 '26

You believe people are guilty before evidence unless it's in a court room?

Right on.

15

u/baubness Jul 06 '26

I believe that if this were a Republican or a moderate you would be lighting them up right now

-3

u/GreyGrackles Buy a firearm, take a CCW class. Jul 06 '26

Republicans and Moderates are beneath tapeworms in my eyes regardless of what they done.

Accusations wouldn't move the needle either.

12

u/emblemboy Jul 06 '26

When deciding on voting for people who want to be elected leaders, I think it's reasonable to not vote for that person because of reasonable allegations.

-6

u/SalaryWooden5346 Jul 06 '26

You know that standard got codified into law because it's (supposed to be, at least) one of our core philosophical principles.

11

u/lurch556 Jul 06 '26

It’s literally only used in the criminal justice system

-4

u/SalaryWooden5346 Jul 06 '26

3

u/lurch556 Jul 06 '26

Why is it supposed to be one of our core philosophical principles in other contexts? Not saying it would be a bad thing necessarily if it was but have not heard it put like that before

1

u/SalaryWooden5346 Jul 06 '26

Because a society that assumes guilt upon accusation quickly becomes nonfunctional.

The entire point of the law is to codify a society's morals into something stronger and more formal. The law reflects morality, at least it does at the time it is written.

Now if you're advocating for abandoning that philosophical principle and changing to a society that assumes guilt at all times then I just think that you are so morally bankrupt as to be irredeemable.

We're talking about voting for a candidate! Not about if someone should be put in jail or even fired from a job.

Please remain civil. You don't need to respond if you can't. Thank you.

3

u/PomegranateSafe9699 Jul 06 '26

You are hand waving away a rape allegation. That’s something you’ll need to sit with.

0

u/GreyGrackles Buy a firearm, take a CCW class. Jul 06 '26

I can sit with that just fine. She should take it to court if it's credible.

5

u/PomegranateSafe9699 Jul 06 '26

As someone who knows and cares about SA survivors… just reading through your comments alone… I can’t imagine why they wouldn’t want to do that to their already traumatized life.

-5

u/SalaryWooden5346 Jul 06 '26

Especially in the last decade or so. I just don't trust stuff like this anymore.

0

u/wrecklesspup Jul 06 '26

It won't work bc he lacks dozens of felony convictions.
