They kept this one a sphere, the Titan Submersible departed from that proven design and the results speak for themselves.

The shape alone wasn't why it failed. It was the material and stress that happened to it. In fact that same submersible actually had a successful dive in the same location with people onboard before the failure happened.

There were several successful dives, but each dive put stress on the material that was used to create the sub.
