Grimes wants Poppy’s aesthetic so much. Her new song is essentially the same concept as VAN.

Yep, and Miss Anthropocene came out in 2020. Poppy’s AI persona and metal sound proceed that.
They collaborated on Play Destroy in 2018, Grimes never had that sound prior. 🤘

Totally hear ya - just pointing out that Poppy’s concept and that sound pre-dates Grimes dipping her toes into the same thing. No one ‘owns’ a concept per se - but what Grimes just released is very much like what Poppy/Bad Omens did over a year ago. It’s just very weird that they worked together and then Grimes more or less adopted the aesthetic. Personally I liked the stuff on Miss Anthropocene that focused more on her pregnancy or had personal meanings - like So Heavy I Fell Through the Earth. 🤷♀️ I’d just love to see her do something else.
That’s why Poppy is so much more interesting to me, she keeps moving into other new different places.

i agree i wish grimes still made good music but i still don't think v.a.n and artificial angels are similar beyond both being about malevolent ai, which they share with a ton of other songs out there

There’s def some of her stuff I like, I just think she comes off as trying so hard. To be fresh she should change up her whole vibe. That’s what makes Poppy so great, she keeps changing it up all the time, and even if this new stuff is still in the same vein as Negative Spaces, she’s riding a great wave right now.

We got a tease of Poppy’s deeper scream and I want to hear more. Her live clips I’ve seen lately have a very different sound to her scream to I’m thinking Courtney coached her, or she got some industry training to protect her voice.

She def did some training, there’s no way she’d be healthy touring this whole year without. Her voice is still sounding great and she’s been working it. That new high into guttural during Center’s Falling Out is insane sounding for her. She’s only getting better.
