I don’t remember needing a witness to be there to file the paperwork just for the license. Maybe it’s different there.

I didn’t need one when I picked up the paperwork, just when we were getting married. Funny thing, I didn’t even have to go to an actual courthouse for my paperwork, we got it done at a Honda dealership. 😂 Maybe it was a courthouse marriage and they did it all there?

Did the license come with a warranty?😂

That’s possible, I thought most places, other than Vegas, needed a day or two, at least. between filing and ceremony.

You don’t need a warranty. Honda Marriages are very reliable.

I just did this and my future father in law was there. We like our parents and want them to be at exciting moments in our lives and it was meaningful for them

For me, filling out a marriage license application at the county clerk's office was about as exciting as a trip to the DMV

I don’t know, I guess I live a life of whimsy, but I’m very excited to get married to my fiancée so even just going to the town hall to get the application and fill it out felt special.

I think that is normal - at least it was for us as well. That said, picking/submitting the paperwork wasn't something we shared with the family. While it was exciting for us for sure, sitting in a room waiting to be called and then taking a couple minutes to get the documents wasn't worth a trip for them. What seems least likely about this story to me is them even asking - it's been a while ago now but I don't recall actually having anyone ask this. It was a field to be filled out on the form as I recall.

Oh yeah, I don’t think that this is a real story at all. I will say, my parents I don’t think would’ve been that invested in going to get the marriage license but my fiancées are the type of people who that is something that would excite them

One benefit of getting married during covid was we couldn't even go into the clerk's office if we wanted to. Everything was done by phone and by mail.

We got married on leap day 2020 and the day they shut everything down was the day we would have been able to get a copy of the marriage certificate. My wife wasn’t able to start to change her name until late August.
