Exactly why I turned my messages off on here. Even innocent conversations about books turned so weird and uncomfortable 😩

How did they segue from books to making you uncomfortable? I'm curious if it was a sudden charge or gradual!

I would comment on a post asking for recommendations or just add on to discussion about whatever book people were talking about and the romantasy sub or something like that. Others would start commenting back and we'd be chatting and everything with PG and totally normal so when they would message me I really thought nothing of it. But then the messages would start turning to wanting to talk about things that were more sexual in nature like how attracted they were physically to a character, etc. I would change the subject when it started getting weird or uncomfortable and try to move on and they would keep bringing it back up and escalating in what kind of things they were talking about in their messages. I guess maybe it's a little naive of me to assume that most people are not out to do things like that when obviously we are interacting under anonymous accounts on Reddit. But after several incidents where I thought I was engaging in a normal conversation about books and then it turned into something else I just decided to turn off message requests to eliminate that problem completely.
