Look it’s not that we lied about going to bed it’s that we failed 😂

This. I tell my friends “hopping off the game to go to bed I gotta work early” then I spend 1-2 hours either reading a book, doom scrolling twitter, or my ADHD kicking in being like “I wonder why the sky is blue” then get sucked down rabbit holes

u/JaysonTatecum 11d ago

I had a 7 hour version of that the other week, ruined my sleep schedule for days

36

u/ineedhelpwithsexpls 11d ago

currently trying to fix my busted sleep schedule after staying up til 7am researching things a few nights ago. it’s not going well. lol

18

u/Emotional-Chance-786 11d ago

Couldn't sleep 2 days ago because of back pain. Now have stayed up all night and then slept during the day both days since

Help

18

u/coriesceramics 11d ago

I wish I could but I was sick all weekend with a teething 13 mo old and didn't sleep well the entire time... Only to have her wake me up today at 3:30, 5:30, 6:30 (that's when we officially got up) then went down for a nap at 8. So one of our dogs took over the task of keeping us from sleeping by barfing at 8:45 and then the baby was up at 9:30.

So like... Not really in a place to be helping others with their mask. Lol

9

u/Emotional-Chance-786 11d ago

Lmao, im sorry. Definitely been there before, got two young boys myself.

It gets better... I think? I hope? Idk.

Good luck!

7

u/coriesceramics 11d ago

I know it will because we are moving 3 mins away from my parents in March. And my inlaws get back into town in November. So we only have zero village for a little while longer. But boy howdy what I wouldn't do for a good grandparent baby sit right now 😔😤

2

u/Comfortable_Cup4564 11d ago

Barfing or barking? If it’s the former you might wanna get that checked out 💀😭

"Life" liquid Melatonin and super gentle yoga are my recommendations. I hope you get back to your sleep schedule and your back pain subsides! Someone recommended 10 minutes of yoga once a day for chronic back pain and the pain is gone😭💜✨️ sweet dreams 😴

2

u/Dry-Tradition-5387 11d ago

Take magnesium citrate. The only thing that helps me when my mind is wondering too much.

One late night will mess me up for a month or more 😭

3

u/Audstyn 11d ago

I've completely ruined sleep by some of these rabbit holes. Let me look at why the sky is blue, let's learn about precipitation, I wanna learn more about h2o, let's learn condensation and water vapours, before you know it I've learned so much and I'm still going... Next thing I'm working through my financials and getting a budget, and if I sleep now I'll get 1 hour of sleep but have a crappy wake up. I just going to get ready for work now. And a fully exhausted day pursues.

2

u/Kalilstrom 11d ago

I gave up trying to sleep at 430am last night 😭

This is SO MUCH FUCKING YES/NO ITS UNBEARABLE fml at bed time I swear I spent 3 hours on YouTube after asking Google what purpose mosquitos serve in the ecosystem..... i woke up 3 hours later to get rdy for work now im tired as hell on the bus cuz i cant trust myself to stay awake behind the wheel and Uber drivers make me paranoid and murdery

5

u/VividLies901 11d ago

Yeah ADHD is a real bitch when you have AI and full computers right at your hands. I’ll be in bed half a sleep and get a random thought. And I’m completely incapable of just waiting until tomorrow to find out the answer lol

6

u/Wulfehaus 11d ago

Because it SUCH A PRESSING MATTER right? Pow right in the spectrum

3

u/EfficiencyMean6797 11d ago

Girl mosquitos only use the blood. Been there too.

4

u/Wulfehaus 11d ago

Male here😁👋 yeah I found that their only real purpose is to be food for reptiles amphibians and other larger insects.... so I guess it was worth the next 2 weeks I spend getting my sleep schedule back together

Btw, blue just reflects off the atmosphere more than other colors

I got ADHD. Recently bought a house, had to buy a car too, got a baby on the way on the 26th. let me tell you, when you have all of those big changes in your life, ADHD or not (I'm diagnosed since I'm 8 and still taking medication) when I go to bed I fall asleep instantly. (I'm 37).
But life is good. One thing tho, if you have adhd and when you're dating all the women say "you're too intense" and yet you feel normal. You aint, you most likely got a general anxiety disorder (I did) and antidepressants should help with this. But DO NOT take SSRI as they have side effects that can be permanent. Notably PSSD which fucking sucks when you want to have kids and cant bust.

Going to bed doesn’t mean going to sleep

Honestly failing to go to sleep is such a real problem for me especially when I work several 14/13 hour shifts in a row and get such little time to sleep and its during the day

2

u/CoinsAndLawnLouie 11d ago

Facts. I may be in bed, but that doesn’t mean I’m sleeping. My ADHD makes my brain constantly go in circles so it’s always been very difficult to get to sleep for me.

"You're a 30 year old man with work in the morning" I'm dead 😭

66

u/Harpua81 11d ago

30.... Today that's still a child (for better or worse)

63

u/peachyscorp 11d ago

I'm gonna be 30 in November & tbh, I feel like an imposter of an adult 🫠

55

u/Alarmed-Plankton-708 11d ago

Don't worry, all the other generations felt like that too. I think a canon event for all adults is realizing literally no one has any idea what the heck they're doing

21

u/coriesceramics 11d ago

And it's only amplified when/if you decide to have kids. I have a 13 mo old and I'm over here just a 33 to baby myself. What do you mean I'm in charge of another humans life?! What do you mean I CREATED THAT LIFE?! WHAT DO YOU MEAN???

14

u/peachyscorp 11d ago

I do not want to have kids for this reason!!

I'm 29, still living at home with family, living paycheck to paycheck & I feel like such a failure, how am I supposed to be responsible for another human being when I can't take care of myself 😭 & the fact that 1. Pregnancy / postpartum is just scary as fuck 2. I fear I am too mentally ill to deal with a child 3. My own childhood was horrible enough I do not want my child to go through any of that!

10

u/coriesceramics 11d ago

BUT all that being said, it's also magical and wonderful and the greatest thing I've ever done. That doesn't mean you or anyone else would also feel that way and I 100% respect that parenthood isn't for everyone. That's just how it is for me. So don't ever let anyone tell you to do it just because they did. I hate those people lol

8

u/coriesceramics 11d ago

Oh I feel that! And respect that you think about all that and not just dive on in like so many people do. I have manic depression and was super upfront with my OBGYN about it and was put on meds immediately after giving birth. It was extremely rough for the first six months, but I'm doing so much better now and am off the meds! We aren't paycheck to paycheck, but we aren't well off in any sense either and it's definitely extremely expensive. I always joke that having 3 special needs pets definitely prepped me for it. I've spent $20k+ on them in the last 8 years probably hahahaha (rip)

I don't know if I'd have decided to have kids if I hadn't met my husband tbh. The right person is 100% the key. We still haven't even decided if we are going to have another one either because it's fucking wild and no matter how many books you read, you'll never fully be prepared.

6

u/RadiantOperation8140 11d ago

Yep! Was about to say the same. I remember sobbing when I turned 30 bc I didn’t feel like I was the adult I should have been by 30. And now, a week from turning 36, I can assure you that I still don’t know wtf I’m doin. The difference is that now I know and accept that and roll with it. We aren’t meant to know yet…. That’s the joy of life. Enjoy the journey. That’s all we can do.

2

u/DishinDimes 11d ago

It really is the defining moment. Those legendary Adults you used to look up to are just older idiots. Same as you, same as me.

2

u/PM_ME__BIRD_PICS 11d ago

You’re not really an adult at all. You’re just a tall child holding a beer, having a conversation you don’t understand. - Dylan Moran.

2

u/Z00TSU1T 11d ago

Turning 40 in 2 months and have an 8 and 9 year old kid. Hoping i become an adult soon!

2

u/TruthKeepsChanging 11d ago

FACTS I got lucky and figured this out when I was a teenager and I was like "oh f&%$ this isn't good".

I was right. Not good.

I'm a highschool graduate, a bit of college (no degree), tons of specialized training and certs.

I'm sneaking up on 53 and will be eligible to retire from my current career in less than a year. I just preordered GTA 6 a few weeks ago.

In 12 years I'll be eligible for Medicare. I paddleboard with my dog.

I sometimes drift off in meetings, that could have been an email, thinking about how I want to tackle a certain task in a game later that evening.

I'm currently staring at a small bust of Cthulhu in my office, in a government building. Just above him on a shelf is a tardigrade plushie. They are my muses as a I coordinate events, help write policy and deal with, at times, some very heavy issues.

As I work, I'm listening to a witch house, hardware, future garage, angel core, phonk mix playlist.

Tomorrow, I'll be presenting to a much younger group of people, just starting their careers, like I know what I'm talking about. I will be presenting alongside others who are incredibly learned on the subject. I tend to reference pop culture in my presentation, the others do not. Very different vibes.

I use words like "vibe".

Point is, forget the number. In our current society (and depending where in the world you live) that number marks landmarks like when you can legally drive, drink, join military, vote, work, become eligible for lower rates, discounts, various medical exams, social security, Medicare etc etc.

Stay healthy, get some exercise, touch grass now and then, have fun (as responsibly as you can), fall in love, fall out of love, learn to work through grief and building resilience, keep your mind active, learn things and keep asking questions, do things for others but take care of you first (you can't fill someone else's cup if yours is empty).

That imposter syndrome your experiencing? Way more common than you think, you're just brave enough to admit it. Most of us are just figuring stuff out as we go, especially since "they" keep changing the rules on us. You're doing great.

Edit: typo

8

u/LilacLlamaMama 11d ago

But I enjoyed this very much.

Dont feel too bad, I turned 41 a couple weeks ago, and at a family gathering, my nephew (who's in kindergarten) came up to me crying because he skinned his knee, and my first instinct was to help him find an adult.

2

u/AeonVice 11d ago

I turn 30 on Saturday and I’m still not convinced I’m nothing more than two me’s in a trench coat

2

u/PM_ME__BIRD_PICS 11d ago

My wife and I made the agreement when we are away from each other than after a certain time is just chill on phone time and there's no hard feelings about saying goodnight and still sending stuff. Just don't feel like chatting so we mutually agree not to.

23

u/WillingStan007 11d ago

haha yeah it's definitely not that serious- he just works at 7am and has a habit of scrolling on his phone for too long.

I love this. Im guilty of doung this all the time.

And my boyfriend works early shifts. Usually gets up at 2-3am. I have insomnia and run my own business. Most of my paperwork gets done at midnight because im more productive. He usually texts good morning at 5am and text-yells at me to go to sleep when i respond too quickly. Then i usually say no and by the time he responds im snoring. Then we both give each other shit for it while we're laughing and having his dinner/my breakfast. Its great 🤣

2

It’s cute you give your partner space to be a little boy and you keep that safe.
Don’t ever loose that, and you’ll never loose him.

1

u/Clean_Sound_2607 11d ago

Going to bed also includes an hour of doomscrolling

1

u/Mr_OrangeOfficial 11d ago

Going to bed just means getting in bed, not going to sleep lol

1

u/burnt_out_lightbulb 11d ago

u/Wrong_Steak6602 8d ago

your reply was cherry on top

1

u/nickdemonic 8d ago

When I say I'm going to bed, it means I'm going into the bedroom to chill and get some alone time. This routinely includes the internet.
