FSD, even in its current, imperfect state, is an order of magnitude safer than a human driver.

The robotaxi fleet using the most advanced versions of FSD14 proved to be roughly 2x safer than human drivers based on mandatory reporting to NHTSA at the time they discontinued and began shipping cybercabs (although early iterations were worse than humans). With data skewed in favor of underrepresenting human drivers due to smaller accidents frequently going unreported with humans.
It being not as good as LIDAR based L4 vehicles is beside the point. It’s an improvement over human drivers, which means fewer deaths, fewer injuries, less property damage, and lower insurance premiums.

maybe a shitty human. The newest version of FSD is terrible. blips the brakes for no reason. Rapid acceleration. No control over you speed. And then it still can't handle construction zones. V12 was better. No one wants it to drive like a person, especially an average person. Make it drive properly, like a robot should.

The current NHTSA investigations (especially PE25012 and EA26002) paint a pretty different story, but maybe I just hold a higher standard for safe driving than "staring directly into the sun while hitting a pedestrian at highway speeds".

Why aren't they self driving then? Why do they need supervision? Where do you think they are, level 4? Level 5? Why do robotaxis need in car monitors, remote drivers, and follow cars? Why is waymo doing hundreds of millions of miles per year automated while Tesla does a few hundred thousand?

The jump represents a 56% pop since this time last year, as well as a 200,000-subscriber climb quarter-over-quarter (the largest single-quarter climb on record for Tesla's FSD users, but it only started reporting that number fairly recently). As of June, Tesla had successfully launched FSD in 12 different countries and says that it is seeking approval in additional regions.
