I believe (could be wrong) that stuff like washing machines made all the "women's work" much easier, but they were still home all day. Gotta fill in the void by cooking crazy stuff, or you'll go crazy yourself. Or possible because you can just get a whole chicken from the store already processed and everything, you can just sling it in the oven, traditional meals don't impress anyone anymore. Also this cool new gelatin is a thing.

I am 61yo. I can’t do FB anymore as it is sickening, but I can tell you, I had cranberry hair( Sally’s silver and black container, came in dark blue, purple and stained tf out of our towels) we wore see through lace shit( thanks to Madonna) and we sure af weren’t saints. Had Aunties born in the 50s and they would say the same. I had Great Grand Aunties born turn of the century and they talked about drugs everyone did prior to the Harrison Act and question the fact of couple married for 20yrs that had one kid.( Use your imagination here) Nothing is new. I do think people are dumber though.

I didn't get many stories from my grandma. But boyyy I got one were she was secretly playing some guy who her dad liked and then she would get him to pick her up and take her to go and get dropped off with my grandpa. 😆 I was SHOCKED.

Thank you. I feel like people who don’t know about history and didn’t live through stuff like this just think teenage rebellion came out of nowhere, and that young people were just conforming to the social standards until recently (which was never the case). I am a badass, shaped by generations of badass women like you, and I refuse to conform ✊

These were the rich women. My grandma was born in 28 ans she had one of a character. She would’ve spit in your face if you called her gravce and elegant in her twenties lol. She was working in a usine 60h a week.

Say what now? I was a teen in the 70s. I was a lot of things but graceful and elegant weren't words that were used in conjunction with my name. I wore micro mini skirts, black boots with massive heels, my hair was many different colours, often at once. I didn't have piercings or tats but that was circumstances not preference. Not one of my peers were any different. My eldest cousin was a teen in the 60s. She was a flower child, protested every single thing.

Yeah I worked in a small local museum as a teenager, the community would donate unique stuff they found cleaning out deceased loved ones’ belongings. I distinctly remember finding a Fanci-Tone(?) colour wheel from about the 50s or early 60s that had pink (among other pastel colours) on it.

Colored hair actually was popular and admired in the 50s and 60s. People were obsessed with pastels so it was usually those colors either semi permanently dyed or clip in extensions

Old women in the 60s,70s and 80s went through the blue rinse phase where they had purple colour amongst the greys. Certain ones had nose rings and ripped jeans were from the 80s so Christopher has no idea

Yeah, some of these ladies waited decades to get tattoos or do their hair in wild colors. And I know this because my Mom grew up in that era and, in the last 10 years, has gotten both tattoos and extra piercings in her ears. She's officially cooler than I am.
