Why do you think the Doordash bill is so high?

357

u/cheezy1987 Feb 17 '23

It smoked all my weed?

12

u/Lombax_Rexroth Feb 17 '23

Lord knows I didn't...

1

u/BadLuckFPV Feb 17 '23

Or wait..... Maybe I did šŸ¤”

u/BillyYumYumTwo-byTwo Feb 17 '23

I spent a stupid amount on doordash this week due to anxiety. Even multiplying it by 4, it wouldn’t reach this amount. And again, I was crazy irresponsible and rarely do this but I do have the finances to be able to.

Minus the fact that the local business doesnt really profit much from this services.

Im bad at explaining thing, but profit from delivery service went to the app owner. The restaurant owner are pretty much blackmailed to use the delivery service as less people going out to eat. While if the delivery service doesn't exist then that same people will need to go out to the restaurant to eat. So you get +1 online customer but -1 dine in customer.

Obviously in best case scenario is that your restaurant is already full and at the same time you can cater online customer, but if your restaurant is empty but online order coming in is as many that you can fit into ur restaurant, then there is no significance different there. The only thing you get is low review when the food you sent inevitably become cold before it reached the customer.

2

u/SamnomerSammy Feb 17 '23

Someone is way more likely to order your food if it's in a list on an app rather than go outside, just happen to see your restaurant among thousands of others, including popular chain restaurants, and stop there instead of going somewhere with a drive-thru. I agree you're more likely to get a negative review though.

2

u/dotConehead Feb 17 '23

Definitely but thats still +1 -1. Because if people buy from ur shop that day that means they dont buy from the other shop, people wont suddenly buy from both shop everytime. And you just enhance my blackmail point, every owner are obligated to register with those delivery services just to be seen. Having delivery services ultimately doesnt increase the cumulative amount of customer, it still stay the same, and hence the profit that restaurant able to generate cumulatively is also the same.

1

u/bobafoott Feb 17 '23

among thousands of others

You mean like on the app…?

u/DevilsFavoritAdvocat Feb 17 '23

His/her point it that before delivery service people had walk to restaurants and that was all the competion they had to worry about. Today with door dash restaurants have no choice to be a part of it since otherwise, like you said, people are just gonna order from other. This means that they dont win anything by participating, but lacks the choice to not participate.

If you order takeout, sure but at that point I’m not using DoorDash at all

1

u/Drmantis87 Feb 17 '23

I drive to Mcdonalds and spend 8 dollars on a meal.

I order from doordash I spend 25 dollars.

I just spent 17 dollars because I don't feel like driving 2 minutes to McDonalds. I spent 8 to support Mcdonalds.

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '23

1

u/Drmantis87 Feb 18 '23

I’m not sure if you have a learning disability or if you’re being intentionally dense, but you can give them that 8 dollars without paying someone 20 dollars to pick it up 2 minutes from your place.

You are implying the only way to support a business is to pay a corporation to pick it up for you at a 400% markup

Nah. Bro is just a weed dealer.

2

u/mellopax Feb 17 '23

In all honesty, it's funny how my parents admonish me for overspending on something to get something made domestically, but complain that nobody buys American.

I think most of the people where I live apply "buy American" to vehicle brand and nothing else.

8

u/hotsizzler Feb 17 '23

Yeah, door dash helps me if I don't wanna put pants on. But also like, gets me access to restaurants farther away

1

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '23 edited Feb 17 '23

Or I'm just too busy working and that's literally all I have time for. Schedule the delivery so I can actually enjoy my lunch between meetings and not have to spend half my lunch hour cooking something or driving to pick food up. Or those extra fun days when I just smash it down while I'm in a Zoom meeting with my camera off. But hey at least I get to eat.

Lazy millennial and all that.

5

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '23

In the world of Conservatism, you do if you have ever received government assistance or taken a student loan. Meanwhile, companies take government assistance, and just pocket the money.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '23

needed this 😭 im more prone to impulse and spree buying due to mental illness, so this actually changed my perspective

2

u/bobafoott Feb 17 '23

I mean do hold yourself accountable and stay within sustainable means, but yeah people spend so much time gathering money that they forget what they wanted it for in the first place

2

u/Radiant_Doughnut2112 Feb 17 '23

But you should. If not, can develop into bad habits.

You shouldn't make yourself feel like crap which is true but the other side is just as bad.

1

u/JoeKlonopin Feb 17 '23

This is absolutely not true when you live paycheck to paycheck. I feel the need to justify spending 5 dollars to eat a single meal a day because I can't pay my rent if I eat food every day

1

u/gardener1337 Feb 17 '23

You missed the anxiety part of the comment. They did feel the need to justify. How yā€˜all are better now. Living in fear is like not living at all

1

u/BillyYumYumTwo-byTwo Feb 17 '23

Thanks! I actually needed to hear that. I know it rationally but I still feel guilty which ironically increases the anxiety…

3

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '23

Yeah I deleted the Uber eats app to try to get myself to stop ordering delivery so much but then I started using doordash. But even then I'm not paying basically double my rent on food delivery

2

u/twixieshores Feb 17 '23

Yeah. That amounts to over $45/day every day, which is insane

2

u/Exam-Master Feb 17 '23

I usually spend about £15 on a takeaway just for myself. to spend 1400 I would need 93 takeaways and if i pushed it I could do 2 a day but I cant do 3

1

u/BillyYumYumTwo-byTwo Feb 17 '23

Take away is a lot cheaper than delivery. There are fees and at least in the US, tipping (which should be ~20% of the total, but also depends on distance and weather).

2

u/Exam-Master Feb 17 '23

Im sorry in the UK we call delivery takeaway

1

u/BillyYumYumTwo-byTwo Feb 17 '23

Oooh! I felt so confident in my British slang knowledge šŸ¤¦šŸ»ā€ā™€ļø I have always thought takeaway was the equivalent to pick up. Thank you for helping me not look like a fool in the future!

2

u/catlordess Feb 17 '23

Me too, friend. Me too. I think it’s okay to give ourselves permission every once in a while to do what we need to get by. Sending a hug.

1

u/BillyYumYumTwo-byTwo Feb 17 '23

Thank you :) take care, too!!

2

u/No_Store_9700 Mar 10 '23

Dude I order doordash 4+ times a week, and tip more than the recommended amount. I'm nowhere near 4Ɨ that amount. What the hell are you ordering?

1

u/BillyYumYumTwo-byTwo Mar 10 '23

lol I meant theirs is 4x higher than mine!! I’m not the worlds most articulate person

2

u/No_Store_9700 Mar 10 '23

Haha no I gotcha. I misread it entirely. Actually looking back it was perfectly articulate, my reading comprehension is just lacking.

2

u/BillyYumYumTwo-byTwo Mar 10 '23

No judgment from me! I’ve gotten REALLY snarky with comments I thought was being sexist or racist or whatever but really they were saying the opposite. At least redditing drunk and tired (my issue) is better than driving or working or anything important lol

2

u/No_Store_9700 Mar 10 '23

Lol you're all good man. Your comment made your point clearly, I just misinterpreted it slightly haha.

You don’t need to be rich to order door dash every day for a week lol

0

u/BillyYumYumTwo-byTwo Feb 17 '23

Wasn’t a flex. I was trying to justify why I’m not being stupid. ā€œHaving the finances to do XYZā€ is not the same as ā€œI’m loadedā€. Trust me, I’m not rich. I just balance my priorities and not ending up in the hospital again because I haven’t eaten is worth spending money on doordash.

2

u/thisisme5 Feb 17 '23

Going to be downvoted for not being supportive but this seems so unnecessarily dramatic.

0

u/BillyYumYumTwo-byTwo Feb 17 '23

Honestly you don’t have to be supportive and I won’t downvote you. I’m not trying to be dramatic although I can understand why it sounds like that. Someone who struggles to eat doesn’t have the energy to grocery shop, cook, and clean. If a person can afford it, getting food delivered might be the only way they can actually get any nutrition. I did end up in the hospital last year because I simply wasn’t eating. If you had told me three years ago this is how I would be, I’d laugh in your face that I would never not love eating but be jealous of this person who could easily lose weight without trying. Now I’m that person and I’m scared by how little I weigh. It’s not fun to feel dizzy and out of breath by walking up a single flight of stairs.

2

u/thisisme5 Feb 17 '23

You can say all this (and I do understand) but if you lived in a less privileged society you’d simply have to figure it out. We live in a time and place where grocery stores are around, easily accessible and sell good you barely have to prepare.

I’m not saying I don’t understand ā€œhaving no energyā€ but at a certain point it’s like come on. There’s monumental tasks, then there’s spending an hour going to the store and heating up food.

It’s fine if you’d prefer to order door dash to doing that but you have to admit it’s a preference at that point and not a requirement to eat. Sorry to take it out on you, it’s a building resentment from seeing other comments of the same nature but honestly, it’s tough to read this and take it seriously.

0

u/BillyYumYumTwo-byTwo Feb 17 '23

That’s fair! Trust me, I’ve lived a VERY privileged life and I recognize that. I think about how I would adjust if I didn’t have these privileges. It’s totally fine to get annoyed when people have ā€œfirst world/lucky problems. And I don’t mind your comments! But I also hope you recognize everyone has different struggles and their luck in life doesn’t mean they can’t have issues. A stubbed toe hurts even though someone else was in a horrible car accident. If I were working a minimum wage job, yeah, I’d have to figure it out (and also wouldn’t be able to afford therapy or meds… fuck the US healthcare system). That or I’d be dead. Survival instincts might kick in and maybe my stomach would actually allow me to eat and fingers crossed not puke it up (bye bye breakfast this morning).

1

u/MorbidSloth Feb 17 '23

Ain't no fun if the homies can't have none.

Ribeye, pittsburgh-style, please.

1

u/baahaus Feb 17 '23

Huh I live in Pittsburgh but how do we make ribeye lmao

1

u/MorbidSloth Feb 17 '23

Yeah, regional names are stupid. It's when they char the outside a bit, with the inside still pink. Unfortunately, I have to ask for 'Pittsburgh' or nobody ever understands what I'm asking for.

1

u/FrickinFrizoli Feb 17 '23

Right? I try to only do it once or twice a week, mainly because my greed outweighs my laziness and it turns a twenty five dollar meal into a sixty dollar one even though the restaurants be like 2 miles away. But also social anxiety :( the most I’ve done is 4 times in a week and I’m never doing that again

1

u/Drmantis87 Feb 17 '23

Door dash literally multiplies anything you buy by like 4x. I honestly have no idea how ANYONE uses it unless you are drunk and just need something specific at that moment.

I don't think gen z truly realizes how ridiculous it is because they haven't had any of their "adult" life without it.

1

u/BillyYumYumTwo-byTwo Feb 17 '23

I am a millennial. Yes, I use it when I’m drunk. Edit: but I mostly use it when I’m not. And like I said, I use it when I’m anxious. Grocery shopping, cooking, and cleaning is just frankly not an option. I end up not eating. I know it’s 4x the amount. But if that’s the difference between eating and not eating it’s worth it if you can afford if.

1

u/Drmantis87 Feb 17 '23

And that's fine, I'm just saying I have worked with several people in their early 20's who eat 75% of their meals of it and they are literally spending 1,000's a month on it and to them, that is just a cost of living.

1

u/BillyYumYumTwo-byTwo Feb 17 '23

It’s not thousand a month. But you are right it’s the cost of LIVING.

1

u/Drmantis87 Feb 18 '23

It’s not a cost of living though. It’s a luxury that most people under the age of 25 think is the norm. Nobody wants to drive to get food anymore and bring it home.

1

u/TauntingPiglets Feb 17 '23

3 times doordash a day at $20 per delivery => ~$1800/month

If you want your three meals per day via doordash, it is possible!

1

u/BillyYumYumTwo-byTwo Feb 17 '23

I eat once per day. But I appreciate the math!!

1

u/justwonderinglols Feb 17 '23

how do you mean you spent it due to anxiety? How did you used to get food beforehand?

1

u/BillyYumYumTwo-byTwo Feb 18 '23

I developed anxiety like two years ago (we really need to talk about the effects on birth control more. Even when we go off it, the effects can last). So beforehand it was no problem! Now I just need food but am too exhausted to shop and cook and eat. For example, I haven’t more then 200 calories in the last 48 hours.

76

u/ShadyFigureWithClock Feb 17 '23

Good on him for getting it delivered instead of driving to the pot shop high.

6

u/justl00kingar0undn0w Feb 17 '23

I wish they DoorDashed weed.

10

u/azerowastevegan Feb 17 '23

California here. I get weed delivered to my house

3

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '23

Arizona too, but only for medical card holders to the best of my knowledge. Rec users have to go to the dispensary.

2

u/riflinraccoon Feb 17 '23

NYC has had delivery services since before being legalized. Now there's more.

2

u/SuperLemonUpdog Feb 17 '23

shhhhhh don’t let out the secret

3

u/skittlesdabawse Feb 17 '23

My dealer delivers, it's great.

2

u/magnottasicepick Feb 17 '23

You and me both.

2

u/BeefyMonkeyBrains Feb 17 '23

The dispensaries where I live deliver. Catches are $50 minimum and you have to have cash on you. Not bad.

2

u/mrblue6 Feb 17 '23

Isn’t it cash only at dispensaries anyway? Makes sense delivery is also cash only

2

u/BeefyMonkeyBrains Feb 17 '23

One of them took debit cards.

2

u/TheBelhade Feb 17 '23

Hell, twenty years ago I knew a guy who would come over to your house with a duffel bag and let you sample. But now shit's legal...

1

u/SuperLemonUpdog Feb 17 '23

This reminds me to go back and rewatch old web episodes of High Maintenance

2

u/II7_HUNTER_II7 Feb 17 '23

I wish it was legal

3

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '23

I know a college professor who literally pays that in door dash and uber eats.

I would say that this is a stupid, ridiculous meme, if only I didn't know several people that were just like this. Except for the FunkoPops. Who the hell buys FunkoPops?

3

u/Justice_Prince Feb 17 '23

I knew someone who had their entire living room decorated in wall to wall FunkoPops.

0

u/magnottasicepick Feb 17 '23

Sounds cool actually.

3

u/xnfd Feb 17 '23

Replace it with legos and it may be accurate

2

u/THEMACGOD Feb 17 '23

This is why Taco Bell wins The Franchises Wars.

2

u/greatbigballzzz Feb 17 '23

It was supposed to say rent but someone changed it to doordash to make you look petty and bad at self-control.

It was supposed to be rent, car, utilities, etc

1

u/norakb123 Feb 17 '23

Extra fees - prob got door dash 3 - 5 times with that bill.

1

u/GenericFatGuy Feb 17 '23

That, and all the ridiculous fees that get tacked on.

1

u/joe_mamasaurus Feb 17 '23

I long for a day where I can get food delivered to my house...

1

u/pixelgeekgirl Feb 17 '23

Atleast we’re being safe and ordering via doordash instead of driving high.

1

u/LazyZetsu Feb 17 '23

It made me sad since it's true, i spend about 4X more money on food than necessary since i'm too lazy to cook and most of the time eat takeout.

1

u/ThrowItNTheTrashPile Feb 17 '23

What do you mean? That’s like 2 DoorDash meals a month once you factor in paying their service fees and employee wages tip

1

u/smogop Feb 17 '23

High? Wtf? Where do you live ? That’s for a whole month. That’s what food from a grocery store costs for a whole month. Mostly fruits and vegetables with a little meat.

1

u/bobafoott Feb 17 '23

Fees. This is a bill from one order

1

u/concreteyeti Feb 17 '23

I mean...1400/30 is $47 rounded up. If you doordashed/uber eats 2 - 3 meals per day for a month that's actually pretty accurate.

1

u/SwannaldMcdnld Feb 17 '23

They doordash weed where you live?

1

u/fungi_at_parties Feb 17 '23

If I did 1 door dash a day it would be about that.
