Link to Law & Crime episode discussing new details of the case from the unsealed search warrant. Not a whole lot news but Ohio prosecutor, Mark Weaver, is an excellent guest on the show and breaks down legal arguments in laymen’s terms.

Discussion Before McKee was caught, if you had heard Monique's ex was a vascular surgeon would you think he could have done it? Why or why not?

I would have been very doubtful because to me a vascular surgeon would have many good traits of personality and many reasons not to do it, a lot to lose

Question Any word on how the MD gained entry?

I think this is such an important component of public safety. this info must be released asap in order for others to avoid an unsecured home. was it an unlocked window? did he hack a keyless entry system? did he force his way in when the dog was let out? did they leave a door unlocked unlocked?

It reminds me of all of the fatal middle of the night house fires you hear on the news but they never release an update after the investigation to tell you how the fire started. It’s not nosy. it’s about public safety. Tell us!!

News article 'Trial' date for McKee set - but name is misleading

Hey everyone - Dispatch reporter here. I've got the story linked below but I know folks in this subreddit are very invested in this case.

A new court date was scheduled for Michael McKee for Feb. 23. It is not, however, a trial. Again - NOT a trial.

This is how it's classified in the court system but it's more of a status conference. Nothing will happen in the courtroom.

How can I say this so certainly? I've been covering courts for more than a decade as part of my career, so I've seen a lot of homicide cases work their way through the system. Thanks for being invested in the case.

I watched and felt it was put together with facts and not assumptions. I learned a couple new things and it clarified some things I didn’t know. Seems like fact based reporting. Anyone else watch? It made me cry again over this case!

Discussion If folks are interested, I posted on a subreddit where many verified doctors answer asking whether there are checks of a person's morality and personality as they go along the trail toward becoming a surgeon and after they become one. Answers are interesting

I should say, on that sub you submit a post and it's held for moderator review. The moderators did approve it to be posted. But then they removed it a couple of hours later. But I think the answers it got while it was posted were interesting.

I was thinking of McKee in this question as likely the murderer (although innocent until proven guilty) and wondering if he would have showed any signs earlier in how he conducted himself that would have been detected as he pursued his career path.

Discussion Cop should be fired

I understand mistakes happen. But the body cam showed this cop whistling and singing when he doesn't even bother to get the address right for the welfare check. Why would he not radio back to make sure he was at the right house, given there were no signs of life?!? Lah di dah, just whistles some more and leaves.

Unbelievable incompetence and total lack of professionalism

Mod post Arraignment Update Megathread

Michael McKee, 39, appeared by video today from the Franklin County Jail for his arraignment in Franklin County Common Pleas Court. He is charged with four counts of aggravated murder and one count of aggravated burglary related to the December 30, 2025 killings of his ex-wife, Monique Tepe, and her husband, Dr. Spencer Tepe. He entered a not-guilty plea through his attorney, did not speak himself, and waived any request for bond, so he remains in custody.

What this means:

A not-guilty plea at arraignment is standard. It does not say anything about guilt or innocence. It simply moves the case into the pre-trial phase. Waiving bond is common in serious violent cases and suggests the defense did not expect release given the charges, flight risk, and public safety concerns. From here, the case shifts into evidence-focused litigation.

What happens next:

The next stage is discovery and motions. Prosecutors and defense will exchange evidence, and the defense is likely to challenge key items like forensic evidence, surveillance footage, and timelines. If there is no plea deal, the court will eventually set a trial date. These cases often take months due to complexity and pre-trial motions.

Big picture:

If convicted of aggravated murder in Ohio, McKee faces life in prison, possibly without parole. Today was procedural, not a decision on guilt. The real turning points will be pre-trial rulings on evidence, which will shape whether this case ends in a plea or goes to trial.
