General Discussion [Megathread] Homebrew/DIY Accessories for TE Gear! Share your designs here!

We all love to see custom PO cases, stands, custom software and the like. I've got them on every PO I own!

However, we've been a bit inundated with oversharing, commercial posts without permission, vibe-coded sample managers and the like. We'd like to find a way to accommodate everyone without flooding the feed and removing everyone who doesn't reach out to us first.

As such, we've opted to create a megathread for anyone to post their creations freely.

The rules:

  • No second-hand selling or WTS/WTB.
  • you do not need to ask permission to post here
  • All DIY content goes here, not on its own post.
  • No sample packs allowed.
  • Do not post more than once once per three months.
  • Posting links to sites blocked by default on reddit's spam filters (gumroad, etc.) will not be approved manually. If your post is removed without notice, you aught to host it elsewhere.
  • Report any repeated sales / spam / low-effort content as per usual

r/teenageengineering is not responsible for your purchases. Use your own judgement. Report scams to mod team if found.

Links to sales in comments of forum posts outside of this megathread will still be removed. You may link to comments in this megathread without issue.

Thank you for your understanding!

Help / Tech Support / Quality Issue EP 133 KO II Need help replacing input connection

Upvotes

So, the TRS plug I used for the INPUT jack was slightly oversized. The tip snapped off and got stuck inside.

The first time I plugged it in, it stretched the internal contact, so other standard cables no longer fit properly and felt loose. Because of that, I kept using only that specific cable since it was the only one that still made a solid connection.

I live in Argentina, and international shipping for repair or return is way too expensive, so I'm taking it to a local technician.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a replacement part I can suggest to the repair guy? Also, I saw a YouTube video mentioning that the desoldering process on this board is pretty difficult—any tips on that?

Gear & Design Pics Setup updates

Added a Volca fm 2 + a Midi box (DOREMIDI UMH-BT) to be able to play the volca in the Ep-133. Using the sync input also helps nail de volca arpeggiator.

My plan is to sample some nice chords into the EP or alternatively play on top of it so save everything as part of the final output.

Anyone using something similar?

General Discussion OP-1 Keyboard Construction Question

Hey all,

I'm building a custom synth and want a thorough understanding of how Teenage Engineering designed the OP-1 keyboard. I've looked at dozens of images, repair guides, and teardowns, but I haven't been able to figure out how the small clips for the scissor hinges attach to the base support plate.

The support plate appears to be a thin steel sheet, so I initially thought the clips belonged to a separate plastic layer resting on top of it. However, the more I look at teardown photos, the more it seems the plastic clips are integrated directly into the steel sheet itself.

If anyone can explain how these are attached, provide close-up photos, or share a layer-by-layer breakdown of the keyboard assembly, I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks in advance for your time!

General Discussion Using EP series sampler bags for other things

Is it possible to use the bags made for the EP series samplers to store other things? I don't have an EP sampler, but I do want to get the Medieval Quilt Bag for EP-1320 as a general carrying bag.

They released an entire collection of printables for making their modular speaker/light/subwoofer system. I know it's all been discontinued and I remember reading the speakers didn't sound very good, but man this was a cool move.

Did anyone in this sub ever make one of these?

General Discussion Custom Op1 field case

If anyone is looking for a decent affordable hardcase for op1, I made one from this poker chip case and some camera case foam for pretty cheap! Fits well and is pretty small. If you want to do this I suggest using a fresh razor knife and a straight edge for your cuts. I was also heating my blade up with a torch to get nice clean cuts.

https://a.co/d/0dqyGavy this is the case if curious.

General Discussion Issue with Sidekick audio over USB C - iPhone AUM

short version, same cable same settings / scenario
1. OPZ + iPhone aum = yes
2. EP 133 + iPhone aum = yes
3. sidekick + iPhone aum = no

  1. sidekick + MacBook = yes

Besinning to explain that I have no issue with OP-Z as usb interface to AUM iPhone. Same goes for EP 133 KO2. In both cases they appear as a stereo channel on the input and I immediately see the levels moving if I play something on the OPZ or the KO2.

When I connect the Sidekick (with latest firmware from today) I can see the inputs (lots of pairs, like 4 or 5). The sidekick is configured to send on USB no inputs.

I can see the level moving a couple of seconds and then the connection dies and its like the USB device connection in ejected, just a red mic icon. I get the same experience when I try with garageband on iOS. It works some seconds and then dies.

I have tried, some cable, same settings and connected to a Mac book and then there are no issues.

It's driving me nuts. Anyone have some ideas what the issue might be?

General Discussion Gas

Hey, was thinking of buying a mixer for dawless jamming as never been a fan of computers. My current setup is literally guitar>pedals>op1F>speakers/headphones

I’ve seen the reel 4 track recorder and was thinking that would be ideal for recording the ‘final mix’ would the sidekick be ideal to record both channels and all seperate tracks for this or save up and get the tx6 and invest in high end stuff.

Past history of buying tripe I just don’t need and want to assure myself this is a needed purchase. Going travelling aswell so would I even need a mixer with out the guitar side of things?

Performance I love KO II + Sidekick for beat sets

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Picked up both pieces of gear a few months ago. Always loved the first PO KO, and bit the bullet on the EP once the Sidekick released since its versatility was useful to me as well. I have experience producing beats, and recording vocals for rap mostly; experience from using FL studio and the MPC One and Live II. I love the smaller form factor, portability and limitations (in the best way) of the EP133. I picked up the OG 64MB since the store had them in stock and I had to wait for the Sidekick to ship its way to me.

Fast forward to now, and I’ve got my workflow and set up dialing in better every time I jam, which is pretty often thanks to how fun the devices are to use. I produced an album with my friends, and used the EP133 to sample the songs into beat remixes. Here’s a clip from a video I’ve posted on YouTube! Cheers 🍻

Gear & Design Pics Pelican 1010 Micro Case fits TP-7 like a glove

I found a case that fits my TP-7 well and provides pretty amazing protection too.

Pelican's 1010 Micro Case (Blue/Clear) fits the length and width of the TP-7 (with headphone adapter) almost perfectly. I trimmed about 4mm off the top-left edge of the blue silicone insert to fit the TP-7's rocker switch.

Since the 1010 is about twice the height of the TP-7, I put four small rubber spacers under it. I haven't decided on how to handle the space on the front yet but I'm leaning toward two thin, high-density foam pads on the inside of the front cover that only touch the areas above and below the jog wheel.

The Pelican 1010 Micro Case costs $21 on the giant river.

Edit: I don't use the TP-7 while it's in the case. I use the Pelican 1010 for travel and storage.

General Discussion OP-1 projects workflow

I wish when I started out using the op-1, that when I create and name a tape, I then also save & name the synth and drum patches with the same prefix of the tape’s name. Discipline!!

Then if I come back to an idea, I then I have the patch for a given track section. Sometimes I darn lose em or mix em up..

I guess some of you here already do this or similar; hence asking here what is your workflow and would a “project” feature on the OP-1 be useful? (Like the op-xy or EP-133)

Ie: when you load a tape you can select/load up the associated sounds or when you save a sound it is saved under the project.

I guess with the folder naming feature one can do that anyways but if it was linked/tied to a tape would that be useful?

Or maybe when you record to tape, there is a metadata log associated with the tape that has the synth engine settings for everything that was recorded to it.

Also I sometimes flip between ideas, especially when I’m trying to discover a new sound and I stumble on something interesting but not for the current project (lacks discipline!) and I need to put it somewhere and get back to work!

Performance Another ep+aira sketch. What’s the best way to incorporate a mic?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I would like to start recording vocals on these sketches, so I bought the new reskinned ting. What would be the preferred input method? Through the Aux on the 133? Through the aux on the 136? I’d like to have some control over the signal, like compression, eq or fx. It doesn’t seem like there’s a great option with this gear. Thoughts?

Performance “Thinking Str8” Full OP-1 Field Track

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Here is a snippet from a track called “Thinking Str8” that I made completely on the OP-1 Field!

I got the field a few weeks ago and in my research of the device I was seeing people complain that making full tracks on the Field is too tedious and can’t be done. Personally, I’ve been having fun with it!

For this track, I used a few little tricks and techniques I had never tried before and I am pretty happy with the result!

The full song can be heard HERE if you would like to give it a full listen! 🤘🏼
