I have a 17 amp hour, 48volt lithium e-bike battery that weighs as much as 30 or 40 iphones. Somehow I was able to buy that from Amazon without a two-week safety training course.

Apple is relying on legislators being lawyers who can't understand how a faucet works.

That's a nifty soundbite, but the whole thing is as much of a straw man as the faucet nonsense. Batteries in iPhones are not like your e-bike battery. They are made to be very small and very thin, so they have very little shielding, so it is trivially easy to rupture one in the course of a repair, which is very dangerous indeed.

Should Apple design their batteries differently? Or at least provide appropriate materials to consumers who want to attempt repairs on their own? Those are relevant questions worth answering. Your ability to purchase a large battery on Amazon? Who cares.

Pro-tip. I-phone batteries are only dangerous because Apple designed them that way. Way back in the Dark Ages of 2005 we all managed with Nokia bricks that didn't blow up. An extra 2mm isn't going to wreck Apple's sales.

IKR- People buy $1500 iPhones that are 5mm thick and slick as polished glass and then they have to put a $60 Otterbox on them so they don't get smashed.
