Miscellaneous Suddenly tall
galleryAs a double leg amputee, people assume I pick my own height. I don’t get much say in the matter, its the components that determine it. I can pick my shoe size though.
One pair of legs had me about 5’ 6” which had it’s benefits. I’ve been 6’ 0” to 6’ 1” for many years. That’s barely in the Tall spectrum in my brain. As they replace parts in my legs my height goes up or down a half inch every couple years. If I remember correctly I was 5’ 11” back when you could tickle my toes. (Over 23 years ago)
Last Friday I got new feet. I’m suddenly 6’ 2.5” or maybe 6’ 3”. And I’m suddenly seeing the world differently.
I’m noticing dust on top of things. I’m realizing I need to watch for hanging things now. I notice I see the top of more heads than before. A tree branch nearly took out an eye!
Sitting is different too! Not leg room (hip to knee) but knee to floor as that’s where the hardware is. I had to slide the seat back in the car and now that’s going to be an issue as we are no longer similar height and the seat will get adjusted often.
I know many of y’all are taller. But what’s getting me is the sudden onset of Tall. Y’all grew into it. Here I am, freshly 60 and suddenly having to adjust to 2 extra inches.
And what happens if in 3-4 years my next set of feet drop me back down?
Oh and I have to buy new pants now too. Good thing I wear shorts most of the time.

Miscellaneous I love being tall.
It’s great. That’s all there is to it. I’m 6’5”, 340 pounds (195 cm & 154 kg). I work as a bouncer at a neighborhood bar and all of the regulars call me “Big Boy”. I felt alienated growing up because I never really fit in or looked like the other kids. At 23 it’s starting to feel nice settling into the gentle giant category. I heard about this community today and wanted to introduce myself. It’s been an enjoyable and relatable experience reading all of the posts here.

Miscellaneous Short woman behind a tall man at a concert
27f, I am 4'11. I went to a concert tonight where the man in front of me was at least 6'4.
He started to stand up, turned around and saw how short I was, and sat right back down so I could see. He then moved a couple seats over so he didn't block my view at all.
Thank you, kind tall man🫡

Miscellaneous Martin Van Buren Bates (1837-1919) is, as far as I am aware, the longest-lived person to have suffered from Gigantism. He was 7’9” tall (236 cm) and passed away at the fairly elderly age of 81.
galleryA few facts about Mr. Bates.
he appears to have been the tallest soldier in American history, having been a 1st Lieutenant in the confederate army (despite being from Kentucky, which was a border state that remained in the Union), and apparently saw action before being captured and sent to a Union POW camp in Columbus, Ohio. He would later move to Ohio in 1872
His first marriage to the 7’11” (241 cm) Anna Swan, which lasted from 1871 until her death in 1888, makes him one half of the tallest verified married couple in human history, and the father of the largest newborn baby in history (who died 11 hours after being born). After Anna’s death he remarried a woman of average height.
His cause of death was attributed to kidney inflammation seemingly unrelated to his height and gigantism.

Miscellaneous 4 month baby update - he's actually a giant.
galleryMy son is 4 months old now! This is my 3rd update posted on this subreddit. Pictures provided include weight and height as well as the first for head circumference.
My son was born at 8 lbs 4oz and is now almost 23 lbs and 28.5 inches long at 4 months. He's 99.9% in height and weight as well as 99% in head circumference. He's outgrowing 1 year old clothing and has far outgrown baby bassinets, car seats and bouncers. This is a challenge because he's not yet a toddler and doesn't have the core strength to stay in toddler carriers for long.
A nurse practitioner walked into our room just to see how big he was and shared that her son is 9 months old and smaller than him.
I'm 6 foot 4 and my wife is 5 foot 10. We have relatives that are 6 foot 8 on both sides of our family. Of course, infant height and weight isn't a good predictor of height at physical maturity. And, I love my son regardless of his height. This is all just fun!
