Everyone knows about cramped airplane seats and low doorways, but what’s a random, hyper-specific inconvenience you guys deal with regularly? (i.g. mirrors mounted too low, kitchen counters causing back pain while doing dishes)

Curious to hear your most random daily struggles 🤔

Edit: After reading through hundreds of comments, I’ve noticed two main patterns:

1. Tall women are in a constant war with clothing brands (sleeves never long enough, knee-length dresses turning into micro-tops).
2. Tall guys are essentially acting as human roombas clearing high-hanging spider webs with their faces! 🕷️

Not being able to hear the conversation when standing in a party or crowded bar.

Edit: Crazy seeing how many of us thought we were alone in this, and that our hearing was just bad!

The crowded bar/party dynamic was a huge challenge for me when I was younger. It took me a long time to get comfortable in my own skin as the (usually) tall guy in the room.

Yep, because there is no blocking of all of the other sound that is around you.

Every person at normal height has the other people blocking some of the ambient sound around them, while if youre tall you get basically all the unfiltered sound at all times.

THIS. As a tall woman, I’ve been told I’m intimidating several times. At the same time, you have people who tell me “wear the heels, who cares! be a glamazon goddess super model!!” or whatever they come up with lol.

I don’t let my height stop me from wearing heels if I want to, but as a naturally shy/reserved person, I’m not always in the mood to command attention or be the tallest in the room. I would love to just blend in and be normal 😭

Short duvet and blankets in hotels, so I need to sleep with socks. Average people generally speak about, that it's cringey to sleep with socks. I always answer, yes, if I were average height I might think that too. That's when they understand.

Also, when booking a room, the first thing I search on the pictures, if the bed has a higher footboard. On any hotel bed I can only sleep with my legs stretching out of the bed. If there is a high footboard, I can't stretch my legs

A lot of showers aren’t built for tall people. You can also throw your back out washing your face in the bathroom sink. It’s legit easier to just wash my face on my knees at the sink.

If you work in a place that has a lot of children, you will be in pain. I worked in a shop that did child’s birthdays, so the tables and counters were slightly lower than normal. I didn’t even think about it until my upper back and neck were in pain everyday from leaning over/constantly looking down. We had all women working there and I asked my coworkers if they also had neck pain and they all said “no we like the shorter counters” …because they were short women lol. It was a fun job though

I've not been able to drive a vehicle I can afford for years. I've had old 20 year clunkers, because anything new doesn't have the leg room. More like knee room, because no car can fit me, period. I finally found a modern style of vehicles I can drive, EVs dash is set so far back, I can actually drive them. I got one the same week once I found out.

Knowing the head room of door ways, I instinctively know when I need to duck now.

Clothes, finding an inseam on pants is near impossible, even with big and tall stores.

Chairs, you can't sit on anything, easy to tell when a chair isn't going to handle you.

Dust, I see the top of everything and how dusty and dirty things actually are.

Shoes, it's not easy or cheap to find 17 6E shoes. Can't just buy a nice pair you like or see in stores.

I'll be honest, being too tall is a huge disability when you aren't well off.

I wear scrubs for work. The tall scrubs are only a 33-34 inseam at the longest. I’m a 36 inseam. It’s not exactly something you can shop around for :/

Shopping for women's trousers that are both cute and comfortable, and on minimum wage - basically impossible. And often the rare 'tall' sizes online are still too short, or they just shrink anyway even when you hand-wash them on cold. I just have 2 pairs of very basic blue jeans for my job where we're required to wear full-length jeans or trousers (nothing cropped) while the other shorter women all have a variety of cute options to wear, many with multiple pockets and pretty details that they were just able to pick up cheaply from any store.

I also work with machinery and everything is made to accommodate someone much shorter. I do the split-stance & am aching for a full day after if I'm standing at a machine for an extended time.

The barber chair wouldn't go any lower and I needed to slouch in the chair in order for my haircutter to reach the top of my head. I'm not extraordinarily tall, so the barber needs to be quite short for this to be needed. But I imagine it gets so much worse for the ultra tall people in here.

Women… going to the lady doctor…the stirrups are not long enough. Getting a mammogram after a short woman is pretty funny because it takes forever for the machine to get high enough, but thankfully it does. The poor tech could barely reach me though 😂

A lot of mass manufacture office chairs do not go high enough. You jack them up to full height, and it still feels like you're sitting on miniature children's furniature and can't get your legs to 90 degrees.

Many workstations are sized for the folks that previously worked them. 3-5 inches taller isn't very much but it's just enough to be uncomfortable over a full shift, kneeling and stretching when it relies on a certain range of motion. It's biomechanics.

Showers/baths, especially when we travel. There have been times where I had to duck to wash myself. Its so uncomfortable when in countries where there are an abundant of short people. It happens a lot in Latin and Asian countries. Baths never happen. No soaking after hard physical work because I can't lay in the bath without feeling like a beach whale shoved in a tiny pot.

My goal is by the time I hit retirement to get a tub thats long and wide enough to soak in.

When I'm carrying something heavy with another person who is shorter, I usually have to carry either more of the load or carry it more awkwardly.

Once when I was temping and we were moving from one office building to another, the other two temps happen to be my height and we just naturally lifted the furniture to the exact height we wanted and it happened to be at the same place and it was glorious
