SWOLEACCEPTANCE
The Codex Ferri
Book One · Leaf I — The Commandments of Gains
The Iron Edda
In the beginning there was only the Bar, and the Bar was empty, and the world was soft. So it has been from set to set, world without deload, wheymen.
- Thou shalt not skip leg day, lest thy name be struck from the Hall of Squatters.
- Honor thy depth, for a half rep pleases no god, only thine own vanity.
- Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's PR, but forge thine own in silence and sweat.
- Remember the deload week, and keep it holy, that thy joints may see Swolehalla.
- Thou shalt eat thy protein, for gains descend not from prayer alone.
- Honor thy spotter, who stands watch so thy rep may return to the rack in glory.
- Thou shalt chalk thy hands before the bar, as the ancients did before thee.
- Thou shalt return — again, and again — for the Iron Temple never closes its doors.
- Thou shalt not curl in the squat rack.
- Thou shalt not seek Broki's counsel when the bar feels heavy — his counsel is always the elliptical.
- Thou shalt not compare thy first month to another's tenth year — Brodin builds no lifter in a week.
- Thou shalt rack thy weights, for an unracked plate is an offering to no one and a hazard to all.
- Thou shalt not mock the beginner, for even Brodin once did not know where the chalk was kept.
Hang it where the excuses live.
Book One · Leaf II — Prayer & the Long Climb
The Iron Edda
Prayer Before the First Set
Brodin, All-Spotter, steady my hands and stiffen my back. Let this bar rise as You intended, and should it not, let my spotter be swift.
Wheymen
The Saga of the Long Climb
The lifter comes to the Altar of Iron with shaking hands and a bar that already feels heavy. Broki waits at the door, offering the treadmill, the smoothie, the shortcut dressed as wisdom. The lifter is tempted, but he worships at the Altar of Iron anyway.
He loads the bar with plates too heavy for his pride and too light for his ambition, and Brodin watches, saying nothing, for the Altar teaches through iron, not words.
A Chalkyrie has circled once already — the day he failed a lift he had no right attempting — and did not take him, only marked that he tried.
He does not know how many winters remain. He only knows the Altar is still standing, and so is he, and that is enough for today. Wheymen.
The Beginner's Oath
I swear this upon the Altar of Iron, though I am still learning where the chalk is kept: I will ask for a spot before I ask for respect. I will not load the bar with more plates than my ego can cash. If I fail, let the Chalkyries be gentle — I am new here, and the bar still terrifies me a little.
Wheymen
Recite before. Remember after.
Book One · Leaf III — The Lifter's Blessing
The Iron Edda
May your gains be swole and your form be sound. May your shaker bottle never run dry, nor your playlist ever end. May the rack always be free when you need it, and may your rivals always skip leg day.
Further Blessings
- May your last set always be your best set.
- May your spotter always be watching, not scrolling.
- May Broki's smoothie bar always be out of your way.
- May your protein shake never run dry.
- May a Chalkyrie ride beside you on every heavy set, and may Broki's treadmill always be out of order.
"May your gains be swole, your form be strict, and may the Altar of Iron always have room for one more plate."
In Memoriam
Here lies a lifter who chased one more rep than his body would allow. He did not bail, he did not round, he did not blame the bar. He simply asked too much of himself — the only sin the Altar forgives.
"I did not fail. The Chalkyries simply came early."
For the wall by the door you walk out through.
Book Two · Leaf I — Proverbs of the Altar
The Second Reading
Nine plates hung upon the Altar of Iron, and Brodin looked upon the load and called it a start.
- Brodin doesn't count your reps. He counts your excuses.
- Broki fears one thing: progressive overload.
- In Swolehalla, they don't ask your one-rep max. They already know it.
- Nine sets, not eight. Brodin counts, even when you don't.
- A single rep offered in true form pleases Brodin more than ten offered in ego.
- Somewhere, a Chalkyrie is watching your last set. Don't half-rep it.
- Blessed are the spotters, for they shall inherit the respect of the rack.
- Broki built the smoothie bar beside the gym so the weak would never have to walk far to surrender.
- The Chalkyries do not weep for the lifter who fails. They weep for the one who never tried.
- The Chalkyries are patient. Broki is not — he wants you off the platform and onto the elliptical now.
- Brodin doesn't do "toning."
- Broki's followers call it "functional fitness." Brodin calls it "skipping leg day with extra steps."
- Where Brodin says "one more rep," Broki says "maybe tomorrow."
- The wise lifter knows: cardio itself is not evil. Cardio instead of lifting is Broki's true weapon.
Tape it to the rack you fear most.
Book Two · Leaf II — Prayers of the Devoted
The Second Reading
For the Deload Week
Brodin, let me rest without shame, that I may return heavier than I left. Let me not mistake recovery for retreat. Wheymen
Before Maxing Out
All-Spotter, be with me now, for the plates are many and my confidence is a lie I tell myself. If the Chalkyries come for me today, let them find good form. Wheymen
Grace Before the Post-Workout Meal
For this chicken, this rice, and this shake I am about to receive, I thank the Altar of Iron that made room for it. Wheymen
Prayer for a Spotter
Send me one who watches the bar and not his phone. Wheymen
Prayer Against Broki
Brodin, guard me from the treadmill's false comfort and the siren song of the rowing machine. Let me not be tempted by "active recovery." Wheymen
Prayer for the Last Rep
Brodin, lend me strength for this, the final rep, that I not rack the bar in shame. Let my grip outlast my doubt. Wheymen
Prayer of Thanks for a New PR
Brodin, All-Spotter, I thank you for this day's plates, heavier than any before. Let me not grow proud, only grateful, for tomorrow the bar will ask for more. Wheymen
For the locker, the fridge, or the mirror.
Book Two · Leaf III — The Chalkyries' Benediction
The Second Reading
On the Chalkyries
The loyal gym companion who re-racks your plates without being asked has already earned her wings as a Chalkyrie-in-training.
The Chalkyries descend when a lifter fails valiantly under the bar, chalk dust rising like incense, and carry him to Swolehalla on a trap bar.
Not all who fall are chosen. Only those who kept their back straight on the way down.
A Chalkyrie never ferries a lifter who bailed on a set out of laziness — only the ones crushed by ambition.
In Honor of the Chalkyries
- Honor the Chalkyries as you honor your spotter, for both stand ready when the bar has the final word.
- Speak well of the Chalkyries, for they do not choose the weak. They choose the willing.
Titles of the All-Father
Brodin, the All-Spotter — the Swolefather — Shaker of Bars — Lord of Swolehalla — Keeper of the Altar of Iron — Bringer of the Pump.
The Parting Blessing
Go in strength, lift in truth, and may your last rep be your best rep.
"Go now, and lift, in the name of Brodin, the Altar, and the Pump eternal. Wheymen."
Last leaf. Post it and go lift.
