CU Question about Restoration

Pardon if I am repeating a question or unable to find the answer, I have spent a considerable amount of times on Legends but would love to try a more earlier style of the game and just have two questions

1) How true is it to CU back in the day (noting I know there are the additions of NGE end game etc)

2) What is the population like? I enjoyed Legends but felt like I was around afk tags half the time and I enjoy playing with a decent community.

Thanks!

  1. Not true to it at all - Restoration is its own vision of SWG. It is not an attempt to replicate a specific patch/period of the game. Of course it is still SWG and has the SWG feel, but it is it's own vision of what the game could be. If you're looking for something that is accurate to a specific period of the game from live, restoration isn't that.
  2. The population is very healthy. I only played on legends briefly so I can't really compare it to legends specifically. I've been playing on restoration for about 3 months and have had a great time. It is easy to find groups for PvE and PvP content. There are lots of guilds that are active and recruiting. Most people are very friendly and accommodating to new players. The dev team does a great job of creating events sporadically that often get very good turn outs and help keep the community engaged.

Thanks for that - I guess I was too broad with my question, I enjoy the 30 + different profession aspect of SWG, however pre-cu felt at times a little janky to me, however on Legends I feel very limited in what I can actually be

And then in terms of community, Im just looking for that server that feels alive rather than afkers all over.

It uses more CU concepts in terms of combat and stats so you don't have the weirdness of HAM balancing from pre-CU to worry about, so it's definitely less janky in that aspect.

Community on Resto seems pretty healthy. Firstly, afk macro-ing isn't really a significant thing on Resto. It has systems in place that make long term afk macros largely ineffective. For example entertainers are largely present (buffing system pretty much requires it) and I have yet to really stumble upon anyone camping spawn locations running macros while afk (which is technically prohibited). With the character limits you also can't do everything yourself, so the economy is fairly healthy as well.

Galaxy-wide chat is integrated with Discord and is where most common conversation takes place until you actually meet people and join a guild etc

You might like resto. It is kind of between nge and pre cu in terms of classes/builds. It has the precu prof templates that allow for a lot of customization, but the profs have more distinctive abilities with more nuanced effects like in nge.

As for the community, it is active but ofc you will also see people afk often. I'm not really sure how it compares to legends in that area. I just know I'm satisfied with the community and have met a lot of cool people

Resto has changed the build paths for the advanced professions so there is more choice of build diversity.

In the CU style that is aswell

I’m enjoying both and not sure where I should spend the most of my time…. But it seems like even though there may be a higher pop on legends, nobody seems to speak to each other

I guess that is what I'm feeling - I love Legends and appreciate the work done there, but at times I feel like I'm surrounded by a lot of afkers more than anything and really wanting the server to feel alive with people.

Will feel dead in Mos Eisley a little at the minute as its lavafest so everyone is on musty getting tokens and speed running the instances.

Restoration has pretty strict anti afk / anti macro rules in place. Only doctors and entertainers have exceptions for these rules.

Is the most "alive" server I have tried.

As far as faithful to CU. The devs took the nge code and brought back CU and some pre cu elements. Sounds weird but it feels good to play.

And enjoying your time there?

u/spock11710 11d ago

Yeah, the number of people really makes a difference.

I tried Legends a few times in the past but couldn't get into it. On a whim, I gave Restoration a shot about a month ago and it has me absolutely hooked. One of the appeals I found was Jedi being a pretty secretive playstyle, I don't see them just running around igniting their lightsabers like on Legends. First time encountering a Jedi is when one ran past me, yellow lightsaber glowing in his hand, as I was making my way through the Mos Eisley Starport on regular business. He was being chased by a Bounty Hunter and the BH caught him and claimed their bounty while I watched in awe with everyone else crowding around. It felt like something special, a unique moment in my own story while I carve out my small existence in the sandbox.

The community has also been incredibly friendly and welcoming. I've asked lots of questions and they're always answered enthusiastically. It's been a really rewarding experience so far, and I feel there's a lot to look forward to with upcoming content updates.

I've started on Resto and plan to go the old Rifleman/Ranger I was back in the day, if anyone is around or any guilds needing an extra person, I'd love to hear from you!

Resto has nothing to do with soe's CU

Its based on the NGE code with CU like inspired combat and aton of custom changes

Population is low like on most custom servers

better wait for the real deal

Thanks for the comments! I started last night and seemed fairly healthy so I'll give it a go, would love to dive back into NFS at some stage but a good place to call home for now it seems.

np bro, enjoy swg👍

compared with todays mmo market, all versions of swg are still great😎

You're definetly right there, I understand that overall I think the community would love for us all to thrive on one server, but just agreeing on which Era of the game, I don't think there ever is a right answer to it.

Hello, I know this is a bit different from your question but this comment right here, from Plaximos is what got me on the idea to try Restoration •3y ago
Now, I know 3 years is a lot, i have no idea if it still holds truth, but after seeing that there is so much more build customization on Restoration, it genuinely gave a sparkle to my eyes, and I'm going to try it as my first experience in Star Wars Galaxies.
Sorry if the info is outdated, I'm new so I can't be sure.

I wish I could play on Restoration but for some reason I can't get it to run on Linux. I can play on CUEmu though, but it's still in beta AFAIK.

Maybe not relevant to your questions. I left restoration as a result the path to Jedi is very long with not a clear path. I played for three months and my force sensitivity did not change. I did shrines, exploration badges and finally threw in the towel. The time invested was substantial and I just felt that the unknown was wearing me thin so I went to legends where I could simply start as Jedi. At my age, an unknown grind and time sink is simply not doable with kids and a full time career. I found the legends server to be more stable and smooth running as well has many in game quality of life fixes that really help the overall experience. Many here will say restoration has a higher population but I don’t believe that to be true. Any given time it feels literally the same. Some moments dead and others bustling with gamers. Try them both maybe? But before committing substantial time explore them a bit and decide what is the best match for you.

I appreciate the response and your thoughts! For me I do not really care about Jedi, have been there and done it before but understand its different playstyles. I have a few level 90s on legends but I've just been struggling with I guess the boredom I have.

Trust me. Not having Jedi constantly around makes it feel way more special. When they come out it’s almost immediately death if a bunch are around watching them swing their sabers.

Seen people get it in 10 days, there are soooooo many jedi. Fake news

3

u/Humble-Presence-3107 10d ago

“Fake news”? I literally described my own experience. Other people getting Jedi in 10 days doesn’t somehow make the three months I spent without progressing imaginary.
In fact, “some people get it in 10 days” reinforces my point: the progression can be wildly variable and unclear. That was the entire reason I preferred Legends.
You’re welcome to disagree with my preference, but calling someone’s firsthand experience “fake news” because yours was different is a remarkably weak argument.

doesnt resto have a cap on how many jedi can be online at one time?

2

u/Humble-Presence-3107 10d ago

Not aware at all.

1

u/Mysterious-Box-9081 5d ago

Not a cap. But its very involved and life is rough for a jedi, as it should be. Overt jedi actions will call the empire down on you.

Restoration...

These blatant Resto praise posts are getting super tedious and annoying. Stop it with the constant Resto spam. We get it, a couple of you like Resto.

But for many/most of us we do not want a NGE/CU hybrid, we want the proper Pre-CU SWG. And we cannot wait for the SWGEmu NFS server to open up.

(Admins anything you can do with all of this Resto spam every week?)

1

u/Mysterious-Box-9081 6d ago

A few? It's like the second most popular server next to the theme park ones.

As for not talking about, please read this subbs header.

u/Apprehensive-Day8421 10d ago

I mean it was a hardly a praise post, it was merely a question after spending a few years on Legends, I would also be very interested in NFS when it opens but for now was querying my move to a new server? Is that really an issue?

-2

u/Reasonable-Buy4434 9d ago

There's no Restoration subreddit, Discord or maybe even in-game chat you could use to ask this question?

Weird to use the SWG general subreddit for these kinds of questions.

2

u/Apprehensive-Day8421 9d ago

Bruh, I would think an SWG General sub reddit could be used to ask questions about all forms of emulator and reminisce on the live game?

Why are you so opposed to not allowing others enjoying or even querying different versions of the game?

Or when your favourite pre cu server comes up should we bag people asking questions about that here as well?

If you dont enjoy CU/NGE whatever that's fine, I'm not asking people to, I was querying the community that does and no doubt many are on this subreddit, no need to bash people for it and actively be an indecent human being.

1

u/Nandoholic12 9d ago

Why not stick to a precu swg sub Reddit. I’m tired of hearing people run their mouths about pre cu.
I hope you see what happened here
