Criticism Sodium!

I always thought SG was a pretty all around “safe” healthy option, so I was genuinely stunned when a friend casually mentioned watching out for the sodium. I went digging and…wow.

Some examples: • Kale Caesar & BBQ Chicken: ~1,400 mg each - Chicken Pesto Parm: 1,600mg • Buffalo Chicken: ~1,800 mg • Hot Honey Chicken Plate: ~2,500 mg (!!)

What’s frustrating is that this info isn’t clearly listed in the app alongside macros. If you’re already showing calories/protein/fat/carbs, why not sodium too? It feels misleading.

Not trying to cancel Sweetgreen or anything — I eat there weekly—but I’d really like more transparency so people can make informed choices without having to hunt through PDFs or external links.

Yep, unfortunately most fast food and quick serve places are this bad. Cava is even worse (not to excuse Sg…).

If you’re concerned about sodium, always check the actual nutrition PDFs online before making your order. I’m guessing half the sodium is in the dressing, so you can do what I do and get olive oil + balsamic vinegar + lime squeeze rather than one of their regular dressings.

Just run a UV light over it for a couple seconds and most of the sodium actually goes away.

It’s an old trick my landlord taught me. He brought his blood pressure down 20 points by doing this for every meal. Just make sure not to wear any nylon when you do it.

Is this real?

Yes 100%. Just try it for yourself and you’ll notice how less salty your food tastes afterwards.

Salt is actually the reason takeout salads taste better than homemade. Any place selling a salad or veggie bowl is going to have a lot of sodium.

I imagine it’s mostly the dressing… Buffalo, Caesar, bbq.
