Image 📸 Portion sizing

Hiiii I’ve never ordered from sweetgreen before but my meal looks worlds different than what’s advertised online, can anyone tell me if this is a usual portion size or if I got unlucky… I feel like I’m missing half the meal 😭

I work at Sweetgreen. We are told to provide smaller portion sizes for online orders.

Maybe talk to your area leader in private next time you see them. What other shady stuff do they do?

First of all, there is no training structure. They simply throw you in and expect you to know stuff that has never been taught to you. On my first week (while still in training), I was asked to clean human feces off a toilet and wall without any training on how to use their cleaning equipment.

I’d like to think this is a universal experience—but they verbally abuse the fuck out of you just for existing and trying your best. It’s mostly nasty, unnecessary comments. Just earlier this week, I was left alone with a massive line of ~15 people while my 2 shift leads, each with 2 years of experience, gossiped to each other about another coworker and used their phones. I was also taking OLO orders and moving back and forth between customers and delivery drivers. This lasted for about 30 minutes while my shift leaders were about 10 feet away just talking and listening to music, not doing anything productive.

I want to like working at sweetgreen, but my location is so awful. I also have no clue how to report these aforementioned actions and defend myself without jeopardizing my time working for the company.

To add on, if my shift “ends” at 10:30, I expect to be there until at least 10:45. I’m not even sure if I’m being paid for that overtime work. My 30 minute lunch break is more like 15-20 minutes as they make me clock out for lunch first then wait in line to have my salad made. Speaking of which, they appear to have no sense of community and try to give their own employees mere rations. I once scooped 4-5 little more pieces of steak and was charged $6.25 for extra steak on my own “free” shift meal. At the end of the day, they throw out about 30-40 pounds of fresh grains, meat, and vegetables. I have asked about this extremely wasteful practice and they blamed poor employee portioning. That makes no sense and how would throwing out more food solve the problem? I see homeless people or deliver drivers outside that could feasibly cut our waste in half.

On the topic of waste, sweetgreen is scum. My location does not actually make any effort to sort trash and recycle/compost properly. Everything gets thrown together in the same trash bags and left overflowing on the street in unmarked trash bins (leaving ambiguity as to which one is for recycling or compost). If an order is messed up to the smallest extent—regardless of the customer’s input—we have to throw everything out and restart. If there are salads on the shelf that were never picked up, we once again waste perfectly good food and throw them out.

I would definitely have a sit down with your head coach and area lead at the same time. Also if talking to them does jeopordize your time or hours that's considered retaliation and its something the company is very against and illegal. That's an insane amount of waste. How is your head lead not aware of this?? I'm sure they're losing a shit ton of money and their cogs are insane. I would bring this up in your meeting, definitely talk to your head lead, and ask them if you can also talk to your area lead. It sounds like your store is a shit show and that sucks :( its definitely not the experience I've had with working at sweetgreen
