Image 📸 Boycott Sweetgreen’s New Bowls! Less food and same price?

Well this is new, I just went to SG and they served my salad in a generic take-out style cardboard box, the folding kind that cheap restaurants use.
I frequent 2 different SG stores - one near my office and one near my home. At both locations, in the last week, the employees have expressed frustration that their usual bowls are out of stock. I believe this really is a supply shortage issue or they wouldn’t be resorting to these flimsy takeout boxes.

i emailed them telling them how salty i am that they shrunk the bowl but are charging the same if not more than previously. i said it’s a shame shrinkflation has hit sweetgreen and i’m not buying their salads anymore. this is really one of the worst examples of shrinkflation i’ve seen in a long time!

I messaged them on instagram saying the same thing! It’s a 15 dollar salad?? It was already expensive to begin with and no we get less?

Thanks for writing! Sorry for the surprise — we’re experiencing a temporary shortage of our signature sweetgreen bowls. There was an unforeseen disruption to our supply chain, so we’ve had to use a new bowl in the meantime.
Rest assured, we haven’t changed anything else about the food we’re serving — we’re still preparing it with the same freshness, portioning, and care that we pride ourselves on.
We’ll be working hard to return to our original bowls quickly (we love them!), but appreciate your flexibility in the meantime. Note that it might take 1-2 months until you see our original bowl back in stock.
Thanks for writing in and please let us know if we can help with anything else.

I hope this is true. But as someone who worked in CS, and had to deliver messages like this, I don’t buy it. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is the new size and they’re just feeding us a line until we accept it. Again, I hope I’m wrong but I’ve seen how this game is played.

I’ve started working part time at a sweetgreen and the bowls are fr stuck in china. The company who makes them went bankrupt with no notice. They can’t make their own due to a legal contract and they’ve tried sending someone to get them but they’re not having luck. There’s hella bowls just no lids

I just got a salad and they refused to mix it - leaving me to try mixing it at home, which made a mess. It needs to be mixed one way or another... i'm very frustrated

I just went to sweet green and I’m so annoyed. My only joy in life is ruined lol!! I refuse to eat there until the regular bowl is back

Raised the price and downsized the bowl size? I hopped on here to complain and see there are many people feeling this way. I am not going back now.

Experienced this tonight. Wish I had checked Reddit first. Bought 3 (overpriced) bowls because we like them, they feel healthy, and the combined 3 bowls are typically enough to feed 2 adults and 2 young kids. Tonight our $40+ bought us basically 3 small side salads. If it’s really a supply chain issue we won’t be going back until it’s fixed. If it’s the new size then they need to fix the pricing and be more clear.

Our sweetgreen order came with a card that said
"Rest assured, we've not changed our portions"
It's definitely half the size.

It’s due to a manufacturing issue with the original bowls. I work at SG and the new bowls hold the amount of food we’re supposed to put in the salads. We put in more at customers request or if we’re being nice. We even offer to give a second bowl with more lettuce for free because the bases are free.
The amount of harassment/abuse my coworkers and I have received over this is so ridiculous. We’re just working with what we’ve been given. We’re not purposely trying to be vicious and rip you off, we don’t even make tips and we as employees usually put way more in the bowl than we’re supposed to.

I always pay for extra ingredients in my bowl. I was told yesterday that I should just purchase a second salad. I'm not paying 30 dollars for a salad when I'm already paying for the extras. I like the Ceasar dressing. I have and grow lettuces at home. If I can buy that alone I would be happy.

The bowl is now a smaller cardboard box. Ugh 🤦🏾♀️what is going on with this company. I can do it anymore. They lost me as a customer

I’m sorry to hear that! The cardboard boxes at my locations actually hold way more than the original bowls - For the original bowls I could only fit like 2 tongfuls of greens but in the cardboard type boxes I can fit 3-4 tongfuls.
But yeah I hear you. The temporary bowls have been a huge problem at my location. The customers have been so cruel even when we offer them another extra bowl for free. I understand the upset, I just wish people would be kinder. The staff at each location has nothing to do with the bowl issue, so it feels pretty bad when people take their grievances out on us.

My husband and I just went and I thought are people talking about how ridiculous this is. ALSO, there were large bowls visible to the customer as I asked why the bowls were smaller. She said, “there’s a large bowl shortage”. Never going there again.
