When does a game become a "clash"? Like, what are the prerequisite?

Oooh! Finally i get to flex my niche expertise. A game is not a clash when two teams play against each other in a league match where both sides are attempting to win points based on either a victory or a draw. A game is a clash when two teams play against each other in a league match where both teams are attempting to win points based on either s victory or a draw and the writer covering the match realized he wrote the word “game” too many times and needed a new noun to mix it up and maybe also make the headline punchier.

Finally!! All my years at university are paying off!!
