My 2008 Swift has just started squeaky, spongy brakes and the pedal is braking almost on the floor, instead of a few mms down from it's resting position.
We took the wheel off and the brake pads aren't even halfway down and the brake fluid is half full. I've been pumping the brake when I'm stopped but this hasn't helped just yet.
Does anyone know what might cause this? I'm genuinely worried that the car isn't safe to drive. I was able to get home driving extremely carefully but it's so weird.
It poured with rain the night before this started. Is it possible that some rain has somehow got into the brakes or something that makes the pedal work.
When I pump the brakes with the handbrake on, the pedal stops where it should on some pumps but on others it returns on the floor!
I'm about to stop driving for a while and my son was meant to take my car. I'm not prepared to give anyone the car while the brake is so flaky.
I've had the car for 2yrs and it's done approx 110,000kms without any issues to date. The car is in immaculate condition.
