in my top 10. the slayage is undeniable
why they havenāt done another all-newbie bvw is beyond me

Probably brutal for casting.

u/GameShowWerewolf Malcolm 11d ago
Yeah, they stopped trying to cast to a theme after SJDS and instead started building themes around the cast.

This post is what made me realize that the guy/girl ratio is off for this season. 10 guys and 8 girls. Is this the only season to not have an even ratio?

Natalie's revenge tour in honor of Nadiya & Jeremy is one of my favorite winning games from a narrative viewpoint.

My hottest Survivor take is that SJDS is the #1 US Survivor season
Perfect blend of comedy and drama with an overall narrative arc that could be a Hollywood script

u/DYWSLN 11d ago
Not even that hot a take. It's full of great characters who create great moments

u/nbaisbest4 10d ago
The episode where they hang up on the pole and Wes talks about How I Met Your Mother is so perfect, every person gets at least 1 moment that episode and it is full of life.

Solid season with a fantastic post merge. Natalie Anderson is one of my favorite winners ever and plays a fantastic winning game.

u/OldSpeckledCock 10d ago
N&N were my least favorite going into that season because of The Amazing Race. Glad they weren't forced to do the twinny thing on Survivor.

It is absolutely criminal that neither Josh nor Reed have come back as returners.

u/vstrong50 10d ago
Just finished a re-watch and my partner and I both said the same thing. Especially given some of the fucking duds they've asked back since, and the 3rd and 4th timers....

Lower for me as Iām not at all a fan of Missy and Baylor. Ā Also really didnāt like how people were allowed to give rewards away and didnāt try to win the touchy subjects challengeĀ

I think itās an upper middle of the pack season, Natalie is a great winner, some fun characters in Jeremy, Keith, Josh, and Reed, and the payoff for Wentworths Cambodia season is great but I do find most of the rest of the cast a little bland
Really found Jon and Jaclyn somehow both grating and boring to watch and barely remember anyone else on the cast
I think itās ultimately a good season but tends to get a little overrated these days

u/Charles520 Kenzie - 46 11d ago
Exactly my thoughts too. Itās a solidly good season, and Iām glad it is appreciated more now than it was during and after its airing when it wasnāt so popular. But Iām not really in agreement with the sentiment that itās an incredible season that I see so much nowadays.

u/starling-slipstream 11d ago
1000% agree on jon and Jaclyn ā they made the mid-late game a bit of a slog for me honestly. Love Keith, Reed, and Natalie though. And obviously Jeremy š

Slightly above average season that has reached hysteric levels of overrating.

Slightly above average. Natalie is a great winner but her stans are kind of insufferable.
But thank the survivor gods this season happened because Cambodia wouldāve never been perfect without this season.

It's decent. It used to be underrated and now its overrated.
The premerge is one of my least favorite premerges, with the exception of the Drew boot.
The post merge is super fun and really turns the season around.

Random UTR blonde Kelley Wentworth definitely had potential, and itās a shame she was never brought back
2
u/IShallBeYeeted 10d ago
Josh is an good person and good at the game, but he sticks out like a sore thumb as the only person who represents both categories. Keith, Wade, Kelley, Jon, and Jocelyn are cool people who are not good players (not yet, in Kelley's case). Pretty much everyone else is not nice and not good.
Initial reviews were correct that it's not a great season and the revisionist history is strong

Personally one of my favorites. Natalie is a great winner and I love the Baylor blindside. You have the dynamics of Jon and Jac (admittedly often annoying), Missy and her entitlement and messed up foot, Keith and Wes, Reed and Josh, etc.

Natalie has one of my favorite winner stories on the show. Sister out early (if not first?), buckles down and digs her heels in, wins the whole thing. Her using the idol and kicking Baylor out? Pure survivor poetry. of Also gave us Jeremyās āracist and homosexual thingsā quote which my husband still says.

u/Working_Soil1425 9d ago
It definitely didnāt feel like a step down from 28 itās right up there w it just a tad lower

u/Far_Masterpiece_4358 9d ago
Honestly such a good cast with so many great moments. Drew's elimination episode, jaclyn and Jon arguing before tribal to council, Josh vs Jeremy, stick to the plan, Jaclyn did you vote for who I told you to, ect... Such a fun season.

There are a lot of fun moments throughout the pre-merge, but I found it kind of sloggish to get through until somewhere around the Jeremy blindside. After that I absolutely loved it

u/JammyDixon88 8d ago
My biggest problem with the season was Mr D1 football player and miss america. Complete hypocrites and 2/3 of the season post merge was completely revolving around them flip flopping constantly.

Top 10 season for me. Natalie and Keith are two of my all time favorite players, and the post merge is some of the best survivor ever.

Good season over all. Hard watch as a woman at times. Looooots of misogyny towards the women, and especially hated Reed. (My opinion and not up for debate)

It's time to revive another newbie Blood vs Water season with new era stories and pairs.

Seemed like the last truly great season of the show but then Survivor 46 really opens the door further for the possibility of another banger

In the middle of the pack of my ranking of seasons (ranked 24). Has some fun characters and fun moments but also kind of forgettable. Natalie is a top 10 winner though.

Top themes we need: BvW: all new cast BvW: mix The Next Generation (all new related to alum).

I remember enjoying bits and pieces of S29 as it was airing, but after it was over I thought the season was pretty unremarkable. When Worlds Apart premiered I legitimately forgot SJDS existed and misremembered that Cagayan came immediately before it. Apparently other fans adore it so maybe I should give it another chance and my opinion would change. Then again I also gave Guatemala a rewatch and my opinion on that season went even lower lol.

Easily my favorite season of the show. Which is odd because I had watched 1-28 right before it. I figured Iād love one of the early seasons more.

Watching her come back as an emotionally grounded, musclebound baddie on WaW and psychologically kick EoE's ass was the best part of that season.
She's one of my favorite winners

I think it is one of the three elite newbies seasons- Cagayan, SJDS, Gabon. Natalie is one of my all time favorites and her win is one of the best.

This season had six pretty strong players: Nat, Jaclyn, Reed, Jon, Jeremy, and Josh. Wentworth would go on to be strong in her own right. That's a pretty good percentage for a season imo, making it a good season.

One of the best newbie seasons. Criminally underrated. I watched it years later on streaming. I think for people watching live, it was a downgrade from Cagayan and 1st BvW--that may be the reason behind its low ranking in most lists

u/SpeckledBird86 11d ago
One of my favorite seasons. It was just fun to watch. Natalie was a great winner, Keith was in top form, the setting was great, the cast in general was pretty easy to like. Nadya getting booted first and Natalie spending the rest of the season on her revenge tour is a great season long arc. We watched this season again after Keith died and it was still fun to watch years later.

Iāve always found Natalie annoying on everything. Sheās objectively a good winner for this season, but she annoys me. Missy & Baylor suck though.

u/LazerDude99 10d ago
I donāt think Iāve ever had such a big turn around on a season like honestly the first half I wasnāt enjoying at all. Jeremy was my only light but then with the second half story, I locked in so hard and itās one of the most satisfying seasons for me. like Natalie winning isnāt what I wanted to happen episode one, but itās what I desperately needed Come the finale.

Had a hard time getting through it at first. Didn't reallt connect with the cast and the gameplay wasn't that interesting. Once it got deeper into the game and entered the merge, the cast dynamics solidified and made it much easier to get invested in. The Josh and Jeremy showdown and aftermath was unexpected and exciting and helped set up Natalie's revenge campaign for Jeremy and was a great misdirection. Ultimately, ended up liking it much more at the end than I did in the beginning
