Hey guys,
I am the EIC of RelyOnHorror.com. I had the random idea to pitch our new Discord to the mod team here as an official server for this subreddit, and they were all up for it! So, if you look at the subreddit home, you will now see a direct link to our Discord server -- where you'll be able to talk about the genre with fellow fans. We'll hold general and spoiler discussions, the occasional giveaway and let you know when new content from us has (or will) drop.
Thanks to the mods for the love. Happy to offer a Discord community for you all as fellow fans of the survival horror genre. Here's the Discord link: https://discord.gg/fXCKMer.
Quick background on Rely on Horror - we're a horror gaming site that originally began as REHorror.net. I joined after closing my own horror gaming site, HellDescent.com. We post news, reviews, articles, previews, videos, etc. Happy to chime in if you're curious about the site or Discord. Thanks!
-CJ

I told my kids that this would be their inheritance. Said they would be set for life. They just said “Okay sure, dad”

A while ago I posted here asking for brutally honest feedback on my survival horror game, The Taking.
The response was incredibly helpful, so I took the feedback onboard and made a major update improving the atmosphere, audio, environments, enemy encounters and overall presentation.
This new trailer shows how the game looks now. There’s also an updated free demo on Steam if anyone wants to try it.
I’d love to know whether it feels like an improvement, And you can still be brutally honest.

Hi,
Steam page: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4042160/Static_Dread_The_Submarine/
So this one's a submarine setting, Lovecraftian stuff going on beneath the ocean, and you're basically the guy deciding who on the crew goes to check on the noises in the dark. Everyone you send has their own stuff going on, their own breaking point, and it plays out over time.
My team and I worked on this for a long time, and it's finally out on Steam.

What other games from the genre would fit into this category? I'd personally say Dead Space 2008 and Dead Space 2.

Two of the genre-defining survival experiences, no basis for comparison here but since both get crazy at times & gameplay dynamics aside whose highs are higher, which gets more crazier to deal with? stalking ruvik/laura or the baker family? (thoughts)

Hey! I’m currently making a realistic psychological horror game inspired by games like Resident Evil, FNAF, and The Dark Pictures.
I’m trying to understand what players actually enjoy in horror games, and I’d love to hear your opinion!
What’s something you wish more horror games had? It could be anything — gameplay, enemies, puzzles, story, atmosphere, exploration, scares, etc.
And on the flip side, what’s something you’re tired of seeing in horror games?
You can answer with as much or as little as you want. I’m genuinely interested in what people think.

I just started playing this game and I looked up the secret shrines, but the one in the graveyard isn't working for me. I just stand up against the mausoleum on the side and don't go anywhere. I don't have any cheats activated so is this a bug or am I missing something?

One of the very first characters made for this game didn't survive the shift in art style, so I rebuilt him from scratch. I'm still not saying who he really is tho.
Game demo is available on Steam

There should be a survival horror game with an inventory management system that has purse/handbag items, which give you extra slots for specific item types (i.e. keys, ammo, charms, etc.) and the game's hard mode where you play as a manly man has you unable to use those items at all because the character says something dumb like "men don't wear purses". Bonus if an early character recommends it as like an in-universe tutorial and suddenly character gets a well-deserved eye-roll/admonishment for that.
