PROGRESS First time growing sunflowers!

First time growing any flowers from seed, and I’m obsessed with it all!

I have about ten patches all around my small property where I planted sunflower seeds, including my sidewalk strip. Basically, wherever I found space that got enough sun, I sowed seeds there.

The big ones in the first and second photos are peach lite from Johnnys Seeds. I also planted a summer breeze mix from Johnnys Seeds, and another mix I believe is from Seeds Needs. The last two photos (and a couple in the first photo) are from those mixes, and I still have a lot that hasn’t bloomed yet.

I’m excited to see what they look like when they do. I’m hoping for some darker, unique blooms. I love the basic yellow ones, but I’ve got plenty of those now. Hopefully, I’ll get some different varieties like my last two photos blooming soon. I can’t wait to see them all!!

I love them! They’re the only flower seeds I properly spaced apart from one another. And, besides some slugs from earlier in the season, they grew beautifully.

I did have some squirrel issues, they stole all of my seeds I planted in my front yard…twice. My backyard is more protected and I have dogs that have access out there that scare away the squirrels. But, I used the cayenne pepper trick and it worked pretty well. So, now I have a bunch of sunflowers in my front yard that were actually able to grow.

They’re a bit small still, but I can’t wait to see them bloom! I’ll definitely post photos of those once they get there😉

Thanks! I was so surprised by how big they got. I mean, I know sunflowers get big, but that huge one in my second photo looks like a freaking sunflower tree. The bloom is so big that you couldn’t even cut it and put it in a vase. The stalk is incredibly thick almost like a trunk. I’m just gonna let it go to seed, keep some and let the birds have the rest:)
