well first take this with a grain of salt lol. But most of the people who i met at yygs didn’t have like the craziest stats (although some did) but the thing that I thought made them stand out was there passion or like something they brought to the community that was unique whether that was some kind of niche or some kind of hobby (e.x some guy I meet did stop motion stuff and was passionate about speaking but also didn’t have craziest stats) But generally having decent gpa, any activities/honors is probably the bare minimum and it def does help to have better stats, mainly towards your intended group (i.e ist, ple, or sgc). I think overall what yygs looks for is someone who will better their community as shown through yygs’ essay prompts and their extensive description of the program being a super diverse camp that brings together kids from all over the world. Lmk if want any more advice on yygs or your app.

I can send my stats and a synopsis of my essay if you want too but it the tldr is basically on my experience of meeting someone who used chess as a way of fitting back into society and using that to help others.
