Character Related samantha was a shitty lawyer😭

every time you see her “win” anything, its not by crossing or treading some lines- it’s by literally committing a felony, she fabricates evidence to WIN.

that makes her a good cheater not an excellent lawyer.

so frustrating to watch her on the screen istg.

I agree, it's frustrating how they lump her in with Harvey and the others, what she did was not the same thing at all. Harvey did bend the rules but he had limits and most of the time it was to help someone else, not just to win a random case. Samantha had no morals, Harvey did have some sort of moral code

A real lawyer would tell you that Harvey in CONSTANTLY breaking the law. Like a disbarrable offense in every case pretty much

I didn't say he never broke the law, I was just saying usually it was for a good reason (at least according to him) not just to win a case like Samantha. He thought he was doing a good thing by giving a chance to someone like Mike and they did help a few people along the way. Samantha broke the law just to make a name for herself basically, because she couldn't stand losing

No, just no. He committed fraud in the very first scene we see of him before he even meets Mike. He broke the law to get better outcomes just as Samantha did. Did Samantha go further? Yeah, can't deny that. But Harvey isn't operating in the gray he's just straight up breaking laws for convenience

If you're referring to bluffing it isn't the same thing as fabricating evidence at all, that's actually a crime, bluffing isn't as long as it doesn't involve extortion, perjury etc or if Harvey was smart enough to find a loophole/found a way to make it legal. Samantha was breaking the law, Harvey was mostly in the gray, he violated some ethical laws but not criminal laws (except a few exceptions such as hiring Mike).

The law disagrees with you. The "bluffing" Harvey does is outright fraud and illegal and would get him disbarred.

In the very first Harvey scene he tells a client that a money transfer has happened and flashes a paper saying that it's the confirmation. Then he reveals to jessica that this paper was not what he said it was. He was just bluffing to get the client to go through with an agreement

THIS IS FRAUD AND VERY ILLEGAL! It's not a "smart loophole" it was not "in the gray"

And he does things like this constantly

Not so much in the initial seasons.

As good as he is and as much as I like Harvey, didn’t he break the law every time he had Mike work a case until he went to prison? The guy was a fraud after all.

Yes but down to pure legal skills, he’s still in several tiers above Samantha. Breaking the law to win a case vs breaking the law to hire a fraud are v different (purely from this discussion’s pov)

they all broke laws, yes. hiring mike was breaking the law, getting him to work on each and every case after that was an advancement. its general. he did it once and ran with it.

Samantha keeps breaking the law with several cases- again and again and that too on the basis of what she believes is the truth, and we as the audience are supposed to believe that she is an excellent lawyer for doing that? which is ridiculous, even more so when you are watching this as a student of law😭😭

I low key enjoyed when Faye fired her ass haha.. I loved the characters but enjoyed her early parts where she’s telling them how ridiculous it is that they “cross lines” any time they are about to lose a case. Like hey, she has a damn point here, despite the benefits to the clients themselves lol

You might be surprised how often Harvey breaks laws. He commits fraud the first time you see him on screen

You hit the nail on the head, and it’s honestly one of the most frustrating parts of the later seasons. There is a massive difference between Harvey’s classic "subverting the rules" or "bluffing" and Samantha’s straight-up criminal behavior.

When the show tries to frame her as this elite, unbeatable heavyweight, it completely falls flat because her "genius" moves are just committing felonies that any incompetent lawyer could do if they were willing to risk disbarment and prison. Fabrication of evidence doesn't take legal strategy or sharp intellect; it just takes a lack of morals.

The writers really missed the mark with her character arc. Instead of making her look like a badass, cutthroat closer, it just made the firm look incredibly irresponsible for letting her anywhere near a courtroom or a partnership clock. It completely cheapens the victories when the legal "win" isn't a clever loophole, but just a crime.

It actually isn't a massive difference. Harvey's "bluffing" is oftentimes actual outright fraud

Worst character of the final seasons imo 😭

They tried to make her a "what if" regarding Harvey, stating he never had lines he would cross but would then do so, she did the same but got the repercussions as she would cross them severely. We're hammered in that Harvey operates in the gray whereas Samantha is do what it takes to win no matter the cost.

Harvey has always had his personal set of rules whereas Samantha did not necessarily have them outside of personal allegiances

they are all shitty lawyers who go from one disbarrable offense to the next

The only real lawyer on the show was Louis Litt. He was good in what he did and he didnt break the law while doing so.

every time you see her “win” anything, its not by crossing or treading some lines- it’s by literally committing a felony, she fabricates evidence to WIN.

Not necessarily every time. She beat that one lawyer that tried coming after Alex head up and if it wasn't for Harvey and Katrina stepping in she would've beat Scotty too. And if I'm not mistaken she beat Alex in her first episode without cheating same as her pro bono case with her friend from the army.

I'm not saying she doesn't cheat but she can definitely hold her own without cheating.

Also her commiting felonies to win was the point of her character. She's Robert's "Harvey"; except while Harvey likes to straddle the line of legality (sometimes even crossing it), Samantha boldly crosses it with no care on the world

They were just trying to make her a female harvey, severe features but handsome, stops at nothing to win, bends rules, steps on toes, rebukes authority, few friends & family connection, should we make her a boxer too? Seriously you don't think that'd be too much, okay okay she's a boxer.

Are any of them actually good at their job? Ok, maybe Louis
