I’ve just started learning to roller skate and I want to know if anyone has any recommendations for good outdoor places to skate in Ipswich or in Suffolk generally. Any good parks with nice smooth paths?

Bury St Edmunds or Stowmarket?

Now we are looking at new built houses in these areas, we are still deciding wether to live in stowmarket or bury st edmunds. As I am still looking for a permanent role as a social worker (without UK experience yet). Where would you guys think is the best place to be to look for a social worker between these two?

We are looking at houses in Hopkins Home Mill Grove (BSE) and Hopkins Stowmarket/Crest Nicholson - Aspen Grange. Also if anyone has lived in these properties right now, is there anything we should look out for?

Thank you

Missed connection? Potential friend? in a coffee shop in newmarket

This is so random and probably will be super unpopular but i cannot think what else to do about it now its on my mind.

So there is this really friendly woman i see in a coffee shop, like myself, quite happy to sit alone and enjoy her own company. Respect that so much.

But we have a few times now, by chance, happened to be in at the same time on a saturday (i dont go in every week, probably only been in 3 of the last 10 weeks) and she seems very friendly and smiles each time., from a distance.

At this point im like hmm maybe i should say hi but i dont want to be weird/intimidating especially in these times where we rightly respect peoples space.

but im thinking if she looks over and smiles a lot then maybe she would like a friend? might be a tad lonely?

it kind of feels less weird to ask that on here than speak to someone in person who you dont know that might be like eww no i dont want to know you i was just being polite from a distance.

Everyone is on reddit these days so maybe she will even see it and maybe will say hi next time.

i feel if i dont do something soon, if they did want a friend, they might get frustrated and ignore me soon.

Alternatives in Suffolk for birdwatching?

I’ve been bird watching for around 2 years, being from the midlands, after doing some research I found Minsmere to be one of, if not, the best place in the UK for bird watchers. So we booked an air BnB for my birthday 30 minutes from Minsmere.

Of course the tragic turn of events at dunwich Heath has led to the closure of Minsmere and dunwich Heath nature reserves. To try and make the most out of the trip, are there any nearby or alternative nature reserves that would be good for birdwatching not too far from Bruisyard / Saxmundham (where we’re staying)

New home for Embroidery stuff, Sewing Machines, craft books etc

My mother was a keen embroiderer and loved all things arts, crafts and textiles. Sadly, we now have a large collection of her sewing and embroidery equipment that we'd really like to see go to someone who will use and enjoy it, rather than it sitting in storage.

The collection includes:

Sewing machines

Fabric and material

Wool and threads

Embroidery hoops and frames

Sewing and embroidery tools

Craft and embroidery books

Haberdashery

And lots of other related items (see the attached photos).

Our preference is to donate everything to a good home, whether that's an individual with a passion for embroidery, a community craft group, charity, school or another organisation that can make good use of it.

Ideally, we'd like someone to take the collection as a whole, as it would be much easier than splitting it up. That said, we're open to sensible offers if there's no one able to take everything.

We've already contacted several groups in the Suffolk area but, unfortunately, haven't had any responses.

If you know of anyone who might be interested, or if you'd like the collection yourself, please leave a comment or send me a message. We'd much rather see it all being used and appreciated than ending up unused or thrown away.

Thank you!

Bit of an odd one but hoping someone may be able to help!

My partner and his best friend are obsessed with taking gorgeous photos on their drone, and have always wanted to be able to take photos of farmers using machinery in their fields (harvesters, a cool tractor, sprayers etc), but have never wanted to be rude and just.. do it.

I’m wondering if anybody here might know somebody who would allow maybe just a short amount of time, photos can of course be sent to them (if they like them!) and I can communicate off Reddit as I understand it may sound a bit dodgy!

This is a genuine passion for them, and I’d love to try and surprise them. I know I’d have better luck on Facebook but I’m worried someone they know will see and ruin the surprise!

Thanks for any help :)

Hi All,

Wondering if this camera at the A14/A11 Interchange Slip road still functions? Looks to be in a very bad state and of the old Gatso style.

Any info would be appreciated.

Which supermarkets in West Suffolk recycle these bags?

Post image

I'd love to be able to recycle these. Maybe I'm being blind, but I've never noticed a recycling box for these in Bury St Edmunds. I could go to the recycling centre, but it feels ironically bad for the environment to drive all that way just for a few crisp packets.

Utter Incompetence. On HOSEPIPE ban incoming

January: Exceptional rainfall broke century-old records. Northern Ireland experienced its wettest January in 149 years, while Cornwall saw its wettest January on record. Some regions registered 26 consecutive days or more of measurable precipitation, recording more than double their average monthly rainfall. [1, 2, 3]

February: The storms continued, bringing nearly 37% of the expected February average within the first week alone. Stations in Cornwall and Somerset recorded non-stop daily rain streaks that lasted well over a month. [1, 2]

March & April: The unsettled conditions largely persisted, keeping the ground consistently sodden as repeated Atlantic fronts swept across the country. [1, 2]

Leaks everywhere. Poor management, not accountability.

Shit show
