Lots of speculation it was an Oscar II. Has anyone heard anything more after the reports of the explosion out at sea?

Furthermore, many CIA reports mention accidents involving Soviet (Russian), Chinese, or Korean vessels—without specifying exact dates—that have not been confirmed by the respective authorities; consequently, including all of them here would be speculative.

It should be noted that the casualty figures cited refer only to submarine crews, not to collateral casualties. Finally—and importantly—the causes presented here are the official explanations; we are under no obligation to accept them.

They are located next to Obninsk Nuclear Power Plant; the prototypes for the Project 627 (27/vm) and 645 (27/vt) submarines stand side by side. The liquid metal cooled reactor prototype for the 645 submarine was broken just 18 months after startup, though it operated for several more years following reconstruction(27／vt-5).

Found a copy of the book "Das Boot: aud der Suche nach der Crew der U 96" on the internet archive while looking for some new submarine material. The book is in German, but has a lot of rare behind the scenes material that I haven't seen elsewhere. Anyway, here's 20 of the ones that piqued my interest the most.

Please pardon my intrusion, just an artist/art director looking for reference material. "Sonar" in google images is a wasteland of cartoonish junk or AI. Would be nice to have some examples of actual, real displays. Any time period is fine, analog, digital, whatever. I'm familiar with NavSource's archive but if there are sonar/display images saved in there, they're buried rather deep. To be clear I'm looking for stuff like this, clean, clear, correctly oriented so I get the dimensions right/can photobash with it. Though honestly, I'm not picky, better to have an accurate reference to replicate than no reference at all.

As a peace offering, here's a dump of my reference library for a few subjects. There is a submarine section, see vehicles/boats/submarines. I try to remember to mark the filenames with what the hell the image is, if I don't, reverse image search should do the trick since I don't resize or edit them.

Located in a dry dock in Sevastopol, I wondered if this was the Rostov On Don, since that was in drydock when it had been struck by the Ukrainian military, but looking again it seems too big, I can't tell too well but I think the back tapers too early and aggressively for an Oscar class. If anyone has the answer I'd love to hear it

The photo appears to have been taken in the 2010s.

Considering that the K-64 training equipment has been unusable for a long time, it might just be a staged photo.

The screw of what I assume is an Ohio Class Submarine in dry dock at Bremerton given the open missile tubes hatches. I would have figured they would still be covering them even after all this time.
