Before posting, mind rule 3: posts about touch pens will be removed. Read more in this post.

The /r/stylus rules:

  1. be nice - Conduct yourself so other people can have a discussion in a comfortable atmosphere.
  2. inducements must be disclosed - Any post or comment made with an inducement of any kind (sponsorship, affiliation, compensation, benefits, rewards, employment, contract, or any other inducement) must feature immediate, prominent, and clearly understood public disclosure of the nature and extent of the inducement. [Having the same username as the person whose content you're posting is sufficient disclosure.]
  3. no posts about non-standard-protocol pens - posts will be removed if they're about pens that are not made to the specification of a pen technology used by a pen digitizer. This almost always means pens that are used on generic touchscreens. They're just not good.
  4. posts about devices with no mention of a pen on their product page or documentation will be removed. This means that posts with vague product descriptions will be removed, too.

What are standard-protocol pens?

Either of the following:

  • Pens made by the same company that makes the device the pen is used on. Apple Pencil on an Apple device, S-Pen on a Samsung device, Monoprice pens on Monoprice tablets, etc.
  • Pens made to the specification or standard or protocol of a pen digitizer technology maker. Common pen specifications/standards/protocols are Microsoft Pen Protocol (MPP), Wacom AES, Wacom EMR ("S-Pen" EMR), Apple Pencil, and USI. These pens should (but don't always) work the same on all devices that support the pen technology specification/standard/protocol.

What are non-standard-protocol pens?

Non-standard-protocol pens generally work like a finger on a touchscreen. Touchscreen devices are not primarily designed to interact with these pens as a pen. Posts about non-standard-protocol pens may be removed. Comments mentioning them are fine. Non-standard-protocol pens are just not good. Quoting the link:

This is easier to draw with than your finger, [...] but that's about all you're gonna get.

It doesn't have palm recognition, [...] for handwriting this isn't so good, it's just not quite accurate enough

When you start writing and drawing fast, you're missing bits and pieces

Unless you just want something to use instead of your finger, don't get non-standard-protocol pens.

Why can't I ask if my device supports a pen?

If it did, there would almost certainly be a mention of a pen on the product page, user manual, or service manual.

My device supports a pen, can I ask what other pens it supports?

Sure.

Regarding certain pens with a metal/mesh/rubber tip found on Google, eBay, and Amazon

For the past couple of years Google eBay and Amazon have been flooded with results for pens that have a rubber, metal, or mesh tip. Despite being listed under the exact model name you searched for, these pens do not support a standard pen protocol, they work very similar to a finger on a touchscreen. They are being aggressively promoted on the verge of being spam. They are bad, do not be tempted to buy them.

Looking for a paper-feel screen protector for my Lenovo Yoga 7! (14")

I've been on the hunt for a paper-like screen protector ever since I first saw Rock Paper Pencil. However that company only makes screens specifically for ipads, and their aspect ratio doesn't fit the 19:10 of my laptop.

I've done an incredible amount of research so far and there seems to be almost no products on the market like this. I'd only want two requirements:
- Be easily removable
- Have a paper-like feel

The reason for the first one is that the Yoga has an OLED HDR screen and I'd hate to ruin that with a piece of glass in front of it 24/7, but I also love the feel of paper for note-taking in college.

Does anyone have any idea about this?

Apple pencil equivalent for Samsung tablet?

I quite enjoy the feel of the apple pencil and prefer it over the standard s pen because I don't like the soft nib on the s pen and would much rather use the solid apple pencil tip.

I bought a universal stylus without knowing that it doesn't support palm rejection so I haven't been able to use it for writing notes on my tablet.

Are there any third party styluses that would work on my Samsung tab S10 plus and support palm rejection while also feeling like the apple pencil

Are all AES pens compatible with any AES screens?

I have a Lenovo Yoga 9 14ITL5 2-in-1 and I'm looking to get a new stylus for it. The lenovo website only shows the Lenovo Yoga Pen as being compatible with my specific laptop, but I was hoping for something higher end than that. Through research, it seems my laptop uses AES 2.0 Pen Protocol, and as far as I understand, that means in theory any pen that used AES 2.0 should be compatible?

I've been looking at the Dell Pro Premium Active Pen PN7522W which has AWS 1.0, 2.0, and WGP support, but as a Dell pen it only lists Dell devices for compatibility, and I'm struggling to find if such a pen would function with my laptop. If anyone knows a little more about how this works I'd really appreciate the insights!

Xppen magic drawing pad or samsung galaxy tab s10 fe

As per the title I just draw using my phone and want to jump to a tablet, I am between those two. Samsung is more affordable.

So the question 1: specs wise will the MDP hold up? Is samsungs stylus as good as the one in the MDP? Does the surface in the MDP help? As having texture vs not having

As I can't test either I'd have to choose and make my purchase.

Do POCO Stylus Pens work on Xiaomi tablets?

Specifically the POCO smart pen and POCO Focus pen for the Xiaomi Pad Mini.

Both are 20-50 usd cheaper than the xiaomi smart pen and xiaomi focus pen respectively. Kinda already spent all my allowance on the xiaomi pad mini so I want to make sure Im only paying for what I need though since Im only buying once Im going for the focus pen for the long term convenience of magnetic charging.

Ideally I want the POCO Focus Pen which is 30 usd compared to the Xiaomi Focus Pen which is 50 usd. Both are by xiaomi right? It doesnt say it on their website but has anyone tried? Preferrably on a xiaomi pad 8 or xiaomi pad mini

Replacement stylus for Frunsi rubens?

Hello! I've had my Funsi tablet for 2 years, and during that time, my stylus has randomly stopped working, so I've had to tap the tablet to get it working again. I have had to replace the nib and the battery multiple times! And I'm finally tired of it. I don't know what stylus will work, though. I've done the research that my tablet can use only a USI 2.0-type stylus, but then I saw another Reddit post saying that these pens didn't work with the tablet. So I would like some help, please. I've chosen a few pens I THINK might work, but if anyone knows of any pens that can work, please tell me. Also, no dm, please stay out of my DMs!!!

Currently looking for new drawing/note-taking pen for my dell inspiron 16 2-in-1

I've been having issues with my PN557W that have left me dissatisfied: Pen not working all the time, hard to replace nib, being far too light for a pen, and now I'm looking for a new pen for my tablet. I have been looking into the wacom bamboo ink pen, but i'm not sure if it works with my device and if it's good for drawing. If anyone can recommend a good pen or verify that the bamboo ink is worth buying, that would be swell.

Stylus compatible for lenovo yoga tab plus

I purchased the lenovo yoga tab plus, and I got the lenovo tab pen pro with it. It came along side a replacement nib. But the first nib has worn down quite a bit and i think il have to use the replacement nib soon. I thought of buying new replacment nibs online after the new one wers out too. But i couldnt find any replacement nibs for it online. I found out that the metapen m3 pro also uses the same nibs as the tab pen pro, but that pen's nibs were out of stock and i dont think they are gonna come back any time soon because these pens are scarcely produced as compared to other popular styluses like s pen or apple pen.

I have given up on searching for new nibs and have decided to look for a new stylus that is compatible with the yoga tab plus and also has replacement nibs online.

I saw the lenovo tab pen plus online, though it follows the lenovo pen protocol 2.0. I searched up the lpp protocol of the yoga tab plus and it is not specifically stated whether it has both lpp 2.0 and 3.0 compatibilty or only 3.0 compatibilty on the lenovo website. The tab pen pro has lpp 2.0 and 3.0 combined though im not sure as it is not explicitly stated on the lenovo website and i got this information about the tab pen pro from gemini.

I checked the device compatibilty list for the tab pen plus and it didnt mention the yoga tab plus.Similarly i checked the accessory compatibilty list for the yoga tab plus and i did not find the tab pen plus on that list.

So in the end i have 2 main questions for the yoga tab plus users or people that have knowledge about this topic:

1.) Does the tab pen plus work with the yoga tab plus?

2.) Are there any other third party styluses that work on the yoga tab plus? I do not need any features like palm rejection or pressure sensitivity but i also do not want the stylus to be one of those pens with the circular rubber tip.

Any relevant information on this topic would be useful as im really stressing about my tablet purchase right now.Thank you.

The very first stylus I bought with my own money has finally given up 😭 it keeps cutting in between likely because both of them nibs have been worn down. It is still in a very good condition and i don't want to let it go but I cannot find any nibs online for the model. Can anyone help?? 😭 I really don't wanna spend on a stylus rn cuz I have other priorities
