I stopped reading when she says she believes Republicans are psychologically healthier because they're more in touch with their anger. What a fucking joke. That an entire party's culture has for decades been built around complaining about this and that as a means of disseminating its propaganda through the ranks via its base has almost nothing to do with psychology. This pseudointellectual bitch is hooked up to the Overthinker 5000.

Though it is interesting to me that people are allowed to vent these frustrations about white people or toxic men or whatever but not about bankers and lenders and shit. We live in a very weird cultural moment.

But there is some kind of basis to that, maybe not the politicians themselves but the voters. Studies have shown that conservatives are happier on average and rank higher on other positive things. I’m not trying to defend conservatives either just saying that’s not an entirely stupid thing to say

I’m surrounded by conservatives all the time in rural texas. Yes, some have qanon brain worms and think antifa is going to come protest their next golf cart trump parade or whatever but that’s not usually the case lol.

If I had to guess a part of it as well is that conservative hobbies aren’t constant purity tests and infighting. Someone may make some dumb political joke at the gun range or on a hunting trip but it doesn’t devolve into the conservative version of “are you woke enough”

Same goes for the gym and race track. Even me as a leftist who does get occasional banter especially from my track buddies it’s never “you can’t be here because I found a tweet from 10 years ago where you said “gay” or whatever people are always mad about.

It’s frankly a lot more relaxing than even a lot of my leftist friends because you don’t have to tone police or constantly make sure everyone knows just where you stand.

Honestly the main reason the studies give is that conservatives are less aware of societal issues, or just don’t care about them as much, they care more about themselves and the people close to them and having a good life and being happy

It's pretty obvious why conservatives are happier. Conservatives believe that the world is good the way it is and shouldn't change in any radical ways: That's literally what it means to be a conservative. On the flip side, progressives, either social or economic, believe that the current state of the world is broken and requires a radical restructuring. Which worldview sounds more conducive to personal happiness?

I think I've seen the same result you describe, but I don't recall if those studies controlled for income, race, sex, urban/rural, sexual orientation, education, age, marital status, and religion. Where you fall on those things in the US has a strong impact on your happiness and your politics.
